I also think that Battlefield will have more "legs" and a longer lifespan than COD. First, DICE doesn't put out a BF game every year so that makes it more fresh and allows them to upgrade the engine, graphics, gameplay, etc. instead of rehashing the same game every year like COD. Second, they have more avenues to explore: they have the main BF game series with the emphasis on modern warfare. They also have the Bad Company avenue available along with future based games with the 2...

All you have to do is look at BF3 which came out 2 years ago. Current gen consoles only had 24 players and stripped down graphics while the PC had 64 players and tremendous graphics. I'd say PC was "next gen" for at least a couple of years and you can't just define it as better graphics....64 player matches falls pretty much under gameplay and much better gameplay at that. Next gen consoles are only now getting the full Battlefield experience with 64 players, but still can&#...

I've always believed that the best way to go was having a gaming PC and a console. I like my PC for online gaming since I think the experience is better. For instance, the console crowd is only now getting to experience Battlefield in all it's 64 player glory while I've been enjoying it for the last 10 years on PC. However, I do like having a console in the living room for the console only exclusives and playing local MP games when friends come over. We really enjoy sports and rac...

"You say that after 5 yrs you'd be at about $1800 or so. Rounding that up an additional $700 is incredibly confusing/overkill." You are forgetting the $400 for the PS4 console plus $250 for five years of PS+ in the author's calculation. $1800 was his estimate for only the games (30 games over 5 years at $60 each) and $2500 was his total with the PS4 and PS+.

I think the problem the author had was with Microsoft CFO Amy Hood's quote. Here's the important snippet: "We did, with Xbox One, make a decision to really enable a first-class experience out of the box." Unfortunately, that isn't remotely true since you need XBL Gold in order to enjoy any of the functions or apps. Without it, you have a really pathetic console that can only play SP games and DVD/Blu-rays. Netflix, Hulu+, game DVR, cable box control....you name it, is be...

If you like the original Panzer General, you should try Panzer Corps. It's the real "spiritual" successor to PG. I tried this PG online beta and wasn't very impressed. Panzer Corps, on the other hand, is much more PG like and pretty fun. There are also some good mods for it as well. Check it out at the Slitherine website (they have a demo, too).

I thought the VitaTV plays Vita games directly and is also a streaming device for apps like Netflix and Hulu Plus. I also believe that it'll stream PS3 games and, in the near future, PS4 games as well.

@DragonKnight

Though I agree with most your points and don't like MS myself, there is one wrong thing with your post: "They introduced ads in a paid for service. Something that doesn't happen anywhere else."

Technically, cable is a paid service and most of the channels have ads since they are just re-airing existing channels. Cable has been around a lot longer than Xbox. Also, on the PC, Hulu Plus is a paid service but comes with ads. Howeve...

Actually this article isn't really about cross-platform gaming despite the misleading title. This paragraph explains it best:

"So what Spencer is talking abut here isn’t necessarily Player vs. Player on Xbox One vs. PC, but rather say, a shared Xbox Live account that keeps track of stats and achievements across games played on Windows and games played on Xbox. Or perhaps more cross-platform interactivity like that seen out of Halo or Skulls. But I’m not sure the hint...

I don't think it'll be the case since Battlefield will be on a 3 year rotation with Battlefront and Titanfall. The Battlefield game series should continue to stay fresh since they can also alternate different versions of it in as well: 2142 and Bad Company need sequels sometime (even WWII could be revisited).

Thank you for pointing this out. The price difference is much more than $100 since just about every feature of Xbox One requires a Gold subscription. Basically, if you don't get Gold, all you have is a console that will play SP games and BR movies. Meanwhile, the only thing Sony has behind the PS+ paywall is online gaming and free games. You can do just about everything else that MS advertises but without paying a yearly subscription.

I can see some real problems once the...

Wow, real mature there bud...."I win you all lose". What are you, like 12 years old? You don't listen to fanboys because you are one. However, I'm primarily a PC gamer (though I have a console as a sidekick) and can tell you 500gb can get filled pretty quickly with the size of games and movies these days. And please don't give me that "power of the cloud" crap. Games still need to be installed to a HDD and movies play better ...

@WB27

This difference is this gen Xbox One games will require a full install, not just a partial install that the 360 had. If you haven't noticed, game size has ballooned and 15-20gb per game is around the norm now. When I installed Max Payne 3 on my PC, it was more like 35gb!

Also, although movies could be stored in the cloud, they would be better on your HDD instead of being streamed. You can lose some fidelity and resolution with streaming. I believe H...

Guess people forgot about Onlive and all the lag it had streaming games over the internet. Just think about how bad it would be with next gen games and their even higher graphics. Games will still need to be installed to a local HDD and 500gb can fill up fast with an active user.

@AngelicIceDiamond

You can't install games to the cloud....just think of the lag (like Onlive and all its problems). What you can store is the game files to be downloaded to another Xbox One, say like you are at a friend's house and want to play the game there (you will have to wait for it to download and install to that Xbox, though). The key word in your quote is "access"....not install. Since you can't actually play the game from the cloud, that doesn...

Unfortunately, "unlimited cloud storage" isn't the cure since you can't actually install games there. The cloud storage is more for game saves, profiles and other such things which actually don't take much room. So, the cloud storage won't really help if your HDD gets full. Not having the ability to attach an external drive or upgrade the HDD to a higher capacity could be a problem down the road. However, it looks like the PS4 will be allowing both plus games can be ...

Just to correct you, but Gaijin Entertainment isn't a Sony developer. They make multi-plat and PC games. Perhaps you remember Birds of Prey on the 360 and PS3 (then released as Wings of Prey on PC)? War Thunder is free to play MMO game for the PC and is coming to the PS4 as a launch game. I believe the reason why it won't be coming to the Xbox One is that their "free to play" would be behind the XBL Gold paywall (hence, not really free to play). Ho...

Not only Skype, but just about everything on this list is free on a PC. Just another reason why I don't like the MS business model for console gaming and would never buy or support them. Only thing I buy from them is my OS and even then, I only get every other release since it seems like every other one is garbage: Win XP = good, Win Vista = crap, Win 7 = good, Win 8 = crap....you get my point.

I'm primarily a PC gamer, but do like having a console as a sidekick: to h...

MS kind of backed themselves into a corner with this latest 180 and could be facing a lose-lose situation. If the Kinect is no longer required for the console to work, many gamers would like to be able to buy the console without it and wonder why they have to pay extra for something they don't like or want. I'd bet, if given the choice of a $500 SKU with the Kinect and a $400 SKU without it, at least half of gamers would pick the cheaper version. By not offering it, though, MS now ris...
