Honestly. the PSP is its biggest enemy right now. It's cheaper, has a much better library, and Japanese developers are still supporting it. Plus, the PSP didn't reach software saturation like the DS did, so I don't think people who own a PSP are ready to make the plunge just yet.
Price is definitely playing a factor though.
Wait......are you saying that the 3DS is poor or the WiiU tablet is poor?
LOL Pachter. Why does anyone continue to give this guy credence?
I agree with the poor sales of the 3DS in EU, but where are you getting the idea that the 3DS is failing in America? It's about a mil or so off from what it's selling in Japan, and at this point has sold more than the DS did at this same point in it's lifespan.
When your sales expectations are ridiculous to begin with (seriously, Nintendo really thought that at $250 dollars the 3DS was going to sell exactly like the DS did at it's 3 yr. mark), then yes, being more moderate in your forecasts isn't conclusive of something "flopping" or doing poorly.
If anyone should be in from Advance Wars it should be Sturm.
bicfitness, I wholeheartedly agree that Nintendo overestimated that the demand they would see for the 3DS at $250 dollars. Consumers didn't see the value in the product, especially now with the increasing popularity of smartphones and tablets that, for only $100-$150 dollars more, could do everything the 3DS does and more.
However, it's a bit early to say that at a lower price point that interest isn't there in the system, or that it has begun to saturate in the ...
The 3DS at this point in time has sold more units in the US than the DS. Why the hell do people misremember that the DS was selling like gangbusters throughout it's lifecycle? It sold like crap for nearly two years, especially in the Americas and EU, and then finally picked up steam when the DS Lite was released.
The 3DS may not be selling like it is in Japan, but don't be fooled into thinking it's selling poorly. Some weeks sales are average, others its above ...
Western games bore me much more so than Japanese games.
DS/PSP still putting up respectable numbers. Both systems were great in their own right, so they deserve the commercial success.
Music more so than story elevates games into art. Music can also elevate the enjoyment of an average game. Take Sonic 3D Blast for the PC. That game is average through and through, but the tunes for that game resonate so well with the levels that it makes the player want to continue to play.
EA also ruined SSX2012 by stripping the game of its charm and personality so not really shocked they're doing the same thing to Dead Space.
If anything, the GB and GBA were the ones that brought handhelds the mainstream success among children, since those two systems were rarely bought and played by teens and adults.
The DS in particular opened the door for all types of gamers to become interested in handheld gaming, and gaming in general. Kids, teens, young adults, the middle aged and elderly, it didn't matter who, the DS sold to pretty much every demographic, and brought the mainstream (i.e "casual&qu...
Actually under Nintendo I think Monolith can now afford to reach their ambitions moreso than they did under Namco. For one, they don't have to worry about meeting an arbitrary due date, since Nintendo is notorious for delaying games that they feel aren't ready. Then, of course, being backed by one of the most financially secure developers in the industry certainly aids Monolith in devoting more time and resources in game production.
"WiiU on par with portable devices"
Being extremely hyperbolic there, dontcha think?

Listing games won't change a fanboy's views. They'll just continue to claim that the games are crap until they're ported to his platform(s) of choice, those being the Vita and PS3.
@HammadTheOne Completely irrelevant point (and one that's not based on fact anyway).
Been saying this since it released.
Surprised to see the DS still selling over 20K considering the fact that it's a dead platform.
Turrble idea. Increase interactivity, but keep them separate entities.
