@Smeargle
That's because they deemed the combat of the original game as not important. And as I said already, if everything what FFVII was is just turn based combat to you that's sad, and you're not really a true fan.
Also, your comparison with Uncharted is stupid. Uncharted is an action-adventure game, changing it to a TCG is changing genres drastically. Final Fantasy VII was a turn based rpg, now it is an action-rpg. It stayed in the genre of rp...
Doesn't have to be an ATB bar, it doesn't really change according to the attacks. Also, have you even watched the video? Kitase clearly stated that this is an action game with strategic elements in form of weapon and ability choice and customization.
@Bahamut
Final Fantasy XV action rpg + FF7RE possibly action rpg = essentially the same game
Every other FF that's turn based=omfg it's awesome
????
Where's the logic?
I wouldn't want a hybrid. Either go turn based or full action RPG, trying to combine them to please someone only ends up in a system that's inferior to both.
Cloud looks pretty much the same like in AC. Also, AC took place 2 years after 7.
Having a random encounter every 5 seconds, going through masses of enemies just doing x-attack, change character x-attack, change character x-attack and so forth was very strategic. The only strategy you had to do was during boss fights, and even that wasn't that deep. Luck is a bigger factor in turn based games, while skill is a bigger factor in action games.
Though, if all action games are just button mashing to you who am I even trying to talk to.
You seem to be able to lead a normal conversation with other people. That's why I'll put much effort into replying to you.
We the old fans? Who are you speaking for? I'm an old fan and I love what I saw.
@Aghashie
Yes because comparing games like KH to games like Dark Souls makes much sense.
I hope they don't overkill it. The charm of Japan's culture is that it's isolated, that's what keeps it different and beautiful. Insert foreign influence into that and you lose that unique beauty. Same goes for gaming culture too.
@nitus
And as bane has said, people disagree because they find that Bloodborne can't be compared to Witcher 3 or Fallout in terms of experience. If you disagree you're either a hater or you don't get it.
Thanks Spotie. He tends to be a hypocrite.
On topic, anyone thinking they'd consider making this old school turn based is simply wrong. Real-time action is popular currently and making this game will cost huge amounts of money. It's simple business, no company is stupid to take such a huge risk in hopes the glory days of turn based rpgs will return. The logical thing is to make the game appealing to an as big as possible audience.
Luckily not all of us old fans share your opinion. If the great game that's Final Fantasy VII was defined by its mediocre battle system to you, then that's just sad.
"Ironically, you can get lots of new fans by sticking close to the original, even in the combat department."
Where did you get that conclusion from? Did you make a study or something?
Good thing there were ARPGs around that could pull that off. Oh wait...
Why would someone spoil the game with these how-tos? The point of the game with its big and open world is to explore and stumble upon things yourself. That's the whole magic of the game.
Oh you mean like you constantly comment on articles about games which's genre you don't like?
Disagrees are because you're wrong. It's not a sequel, it's a spin-off.
Wasn't the dark atmosphere and the theme of the Goddess of Death kinda the major theme of the original game?...
*sigh* As much as Tabata keeps saying the game didn't change from the original concept, the more info is released the less hyped I am. How can dark clothes substitute for a kingdom centered around the God of Death?
Actually Fallout had a drastic change of gameplay and now it's one of the most loved RPGs.
