"There's no way it costs $150 or so to manufacturer a Kinect"

Yes, but you act like that is the only cost. The XB1 also has the TV functions, which are also factored into the overall cost of the device. How much or how little that impacts the price is ultimately moot, since it really boils down to if YOU think it's a value, not whither or not it actually is.

Anyway, what did you expect the article to do? It mentioned that a headset will be ...

Part of the reason is uniformity.

Like some people don't have a mic on the PS3, simply because they don't want to pay the money to chat with people they don't know. Even if these things cost $5 dollars, that's still $5 dollars you're paying for a feature you probably don't care about. At least if it comes free with the system you'll be able to get the full experience at no extra cost (besides paying for the online itself).

Was it easy? No.
Was it one of the hardest 4 feats in ALL of gaming? 30, 33, 50 are the percent of people that were able to beat Demon Souls across the regions. That is just under 70,000 people who were able to pull off this "impossible" feat out of all the people tracked on trophy websites.

The same can't be said of other legitimately hard games like Ninja Gaiden, which takes infinitely more skill to beat than Demon Souls.

4718d ago 1 agree1 disagreeView comment

Demon Soul's is not among the 10 hardest games ever made. The game is extremely doable (some would argue easy) once you figure out how to properly play the game. If anything, one of the new Ninja Gaiden games should have that slot.

Also Super Meat Boy isn't on the PS3.

"For every "risk" there are benefits. A bigger Vita userbase, better experience for PS4, more memory card sales, and a marketing push seem like great benefits to a small risk. "

Why don't people get that this means admitting the defeat on the Vita?

They're TWO very different demographics that share ONE feature that only a few people are interested in.

Neither has anything to do with the other one. Lets look at some extremes.

CoD could score a 1 on every single last site on the planet, but it will still sell more copies than probably every Platinum Games title combined. On the other hand, Vanquish got high review scores and is constantly spoken of favorably by people on N4G / other sites, yet it still sold very poorly. So badly that a used copy is only $5 dollars on Bestbuy ( 4718d ago 5 agree0 disagreeView comment

I think a lot of it has to do with status and ego (is this what you meant by writing style?), than anything else. I know the EiC of the site I use to write for was telling me how he couldn't make deadlines if he actually beat every game he played and when I suggested he do fewer reviews of greater quality, he just told me to go... myself.

I think a lot of this has to do with people stroking their egos and the utter lack of responsibility to do their job right. Like I had...

I agree with a lot of this and really wish people would stop complaining about the low standards / quality of the game journalists and do something about them.

After being one for 2 and a half years, I really started to learn what the reality of everything is and it's extremely depressing. Like I know two of the sites that gave Dragon's Crown a 9+ score had little experience with the game. One of the sites had a review based off 1 character and she was unable to beat ...

I believe clicking it and posting comments add heat and the ratio of views / comments decides how hot the article is. I know when I got my first 1,000 degree article the site didn't actually have an absurd amount of views. I think the article had like 2,000 views, which is maybe up 400 from normal. Either or, a lot of sites will approve their own articles and post silly comments usually to stir people up or influence others to post.

Once I posted my Orgarhythm review (wh...

A lot of people forget that people are games first, specs second. The PS4 isn't guaranteed to win next gen because it's the "most popular" and "most fairly priced". I am not saying the Wii U will be driving in a bunch of sales this year, but if it had the LoZ remake, Super Smash Bros U (maybe delay the 3DS version to make it happen), Mario Kart 8, Super Mario 3D World and the already released Pikmin 3, then it would be a completely different story.

4718d ago 3 agree7 disagreeView comment

To be completely honest. I think a lot of people forget about the unaccountable costs to saving that $100 dollars.

Like I know a lot of people that waited on the Wii U and were constantly looking for a deal. Even if you make minimal wage, then spending 15 hours trying to find a deal will come out to be a loss. Not to mention reading the news of how it's doing / looking to see if you should buy it / etc.

I simply just bought the Vita and Wii U on day one ...

This is a catch 22 problem that really doesn't need to be addressed.

On one hand you have the chance to get the system at the start, which means everything will be new and wondrous. If you were to get even a Vita or Wii U today, then people would be like "of course it has the Miiverse / Near! Are you living under a rock?", where as at launch you could be like "OMG the UI is sooo cool!" and people even on N4G would be asking you questions as if you cap...

@ DragonKnight

Depends the site. The one I use to write for pushed me and another writer to get the Wii U and he was given $400 dollars from the owner to buy himself one. The funny thing is that he didn't really give out review copies, nor did he really cover the system. The funny thing was actually what he said about the XB1.

Back when it was first announced to have all that DRM, he actually approved of it because it didn't affect him. He flat out to...

Depends the site and taste. A lot of EiC's and high ranking staff members do the "best" games exclusively and give all the peons the crappy ones in bulk.

Killzone 3 also supported the Move / sharpshooter, but that was among the few uses of that. The long / short is that it might just be a feature that most games never bother with.

Nintendo can make the most powerful system next generation, but nothing says any of those companies will bother making a Nintendo version. Even now it's getting lesser versions of things on current generation consoles, which is silly because it's at the absolute least on par with the 360. Not to mention they could always release those games on the Wii U with lesser graphics / less going on.

Do you know what a loss leader is?

"is a product sold at a low price, at or below its market cost[2] to stimulate other sales of more profitable goods or services. Using a loss leader, often a very popular good or service, is a type of sales promotion—a marketing strategy that focuses on pricing strategy. Sometimes "leader" is used as a related term and can mean any popular article, i.e., one sold at a normal price.[3]"

Your quote says it...

Does it really take a year of being a game journalist to realize these things? I would assume anyone that has looked at an article on N4G would know that people have different opinions and no one universally likes anything. Anyone who played, saw or heard about Aliens CM would know that previews mean nothing (doesn't mean they're pointless though. Sometimes you can learn a lot from a good preview). And the final point isn't even logical.

Games aren't always g...

@ LOGICWINS

Has anyone ever seen LOGICWINS actually use logic or for that matter "win"?

"Sony could have done more. I haven't seen any KZ: Mercenary or P4: The Golden ads here in the U.S. Memory card prices are still sky high. "

Ads usually come out the week before, during or after the release, not a month ahead of time. There is also the matter of you possibly not being in the demographic. Like you can find Nintendo a...

It's not considered a failure per se, just that sites thrive off calling it a failure and that negative stigma scares people away. People can write whatever reason why the Vita isn't selling, but a lot of it has to do with yellow journalism and memory card prices.

Like a lot of sites will call trash like Hotline Miami (it's fun, don't get me wrong, but no one on this planet would consider it a system seller) among the top X Vita games. There is constant news ...
