I don't have anything against Sony, but they didn't develop any of that software. Those products have been around for a long time - developed by Sonic Foundry - which Sony recently acquired. Also, none of them are particularly great, and none are aimed at or used in the professional market which is dominated by Avid/Digidesign, Final Cut, Logic, heck even Adobe is more in the game with Premiere and After Effects - none made by Sony or MS for that matter.
Polyphony has said they don't want to do damage if they can't model it accurately for every car. Other games either have good damage modeling and a few cars (Motorstorm) or weak damage modeling and a lot of cars (Forza). But nobody has hundreds of cars AND good damage modeling. Maybe GT7 on the PS4 :)
I'm pretty sure that Harmonix had to reverse engineer the GH3 controllers in order to create the patch - so it probably is actionable if Activision wants to go there. Whaaat is Activision smoking! Harmonix doesn't stand to gain anything financially by letting gamers use their GH3 controllers for Rock Band, but it is a good incentive for Rock Band owners to pick up a copy of GH3 fore Christmas to get 4 player action going. Harmonix is just trying to do right by their fans and Activision... well they can suck it.
Sin is the problem, not alcohol. Alcohol is not inherently sinful, drunkenness is. Drinking alcohol and being drunk are not the same thing. Being drunk is not an excuse for anything.

I for one hate when devs shoehorn MP in for a value-add on the box. For some games (COD4) it's a perfect fit, and for others (Bioshock) it's great without. Personally I'd rather have dev's not feel like they need to include it just to get us to buy the game to the potential detriment of the single-player experience. I know some folks are just all about MP though so they probably want every quality game to have MP, but I just don't feel that way.
I'm pretty sure someone is getting me this game for Christmas so I can't buy it! Can't wait to play it though.

Yeah - I kinda expected they wouldn't be compatible. Harmonix kept saying "if they use our standard then it will work". I don't know if Activision would have to pay to license that code from Harmonix or what, but it's safe to say that they didn't use it intentionally. I don't know what their problem is with letting Harmonix release the patch - maybe it has something to do with Rock Band making Guitar Hero look decidedly "last gen".
You, and everyone else, need to give up this argument. I spent 5 years of my life as a professional gigging musician playing in front of thousands of people - I can sing, I play guitar, I play bass, I play drums - hell, I even play piano. But these days I do web-design, it pays better and it's a lot easier on the schedule, and I love me some Rock Band! Is that OK with you? Or should I go learn to play a few more instruments instead?

It's not clear from the article, but someone clears it up in the comments - you don't get a free game just because you had to get your hardware replaced. Only if it was delayed, and they send you an email about it.

I also think that the Wii isn't going to continue to sell as well over the long haul - Nintendo is still relying too heavily on the old 1st party titles. What I'm saying is that considering how things look today how does one justify saying that the PS3 will surge past the Wii, but not the 360? If the PS3s sales are going to increase enough for them to beat the Wii in any market then I think it's reasonable to assume they would be beating the 360 as well.
I saw the Acid test yesterday or the day before on IE blog - I can only hope that it's true. Though, to be honest, the release of IE 8 is only going to make my job (web design/development) harder. Since IE 7 was release we've only been seen about half of our IE users - which ranges from 80%-90% of all logins - switch to IE 7.
