I still think that if you want to own a movie and all the special features etc. you're going to want a disk. DD makes a lot of sense for rentals and I expect that marketplace to get pretty competitive this year with Apple and Netflix going at it, but if you want a movie for your collection I still don't think that people want to set up a massive RAID server is their house to store it all.
I agree with both of you. 30FPS if fine for MGS.
I guess the guy that composed the headline isn't aware that these days all disc-based media are digital.
The outlook has been grim for HD-DVD from the start, and this just makes it even more clear that the market is choosing Blu Ray. I just hope HD-DVD admits defeat sooner than later.
Who cares? The game is garbage.
Also - that business about only really running on DX10. X-Play said that even on their rigs the game ran so much better with DX9 that the graphical tradeoff was more than worth it.
It's annoying in that it's just sensationalist tripe - a crap game that's just trying to cause a stir. So sure it's in poor taste, but the makers know that - they want you to get all worked up about it so they can get more hits. Just ignore them.
Got Uncharted for Christmas, beat the whole game in three (long) sessions. Couldn't put it down. Awesome game. Period.
I can't imagine why Microsoft would want to further tie themselves to the sinking ship that is HD-DVD.
Blu Ray already has Sony and Disney exclusivity - Sony and Disney are the largest content owners in the industry by a massive margin - they own something like 75% or more of all movies. Yes if Warner goes exclusive as well it would be even better for BR, but as it stands HD-DVD can NEVER win unless Disney jumps ship wholesale from BR to HD-DVD and that's just not going to happen.
I would think that having an optional Blu Ray drive in a 24" iMac would be pretty cool - they have really nice high resolution screens, so why shouldn't they have HD disc playback?
Additionally Macs are very popular for video editing and Blu Ray burners would be a godsend for backing up HD content.
Apple has been in the Blu Ray camp for long time - they were one of the first companies to take a side in this "format war".
Yeah - I don't know about that. I think they are assuming that the size of TV people purchase is only a function of how much they want to spend. So if you want to spend X you just get the biggest TV you can for that amount and since prices will go down we'll all just keep buying bigger sets. I have a 40" HDTV and I really wouldn't want a larger one in my living room.
Good review. I agree that the Lives system needs to go. Playing New Super Mario brothers on the DS and going back to level 1-5 or whatever a millions times to get lives taught me that.
Why don't you give it a rest with the personal attacks and focus your energy on contributing to the conversation/debate. Your comment has NOTHING to do with the posting other than that you mention Microsoft.

I think it's more likely that you guys had SPAM.
If you're inferring that this is somehow not appropriate news for this site then I think you need to note that it is posted under "industry News" and probably to also review the posting guidelines which make it clear that this kind of article is entirely appropriate.
In some respects you could argue that Opera is "better" than Firefox, but for overall usability and browsing experience I wouldn't recommend it over Firefox. If you prefer it personally that's cool, but I think that it's not for nothing that Opera's market share has been pretty much stagnant... well, forever.
Firefox handles memory poorly across all platforms and apparently this still hasn't been addressed in FF3 according to Tech Crunch:

you could try googling firefox noscript or just go here

you may not even need it though
To say that the 360 is quieter than the PS3 is an utter falsehood (unless maybe it's turned off). I have both consoles right next to each other and when playing the 360 I can pretty much always hear it running over the game's audio unless it's a particularly loud explosion of musical portion. I can't ever hear the PS3 from across the room - even if there's no other sound other than the normal amount of noise in the world - and we don't have central heat or air so there's not always some fan b...
