The Japanese get all of the newest tech before anyone else and they sure are quick adopters of it..... There's some products that come out in Japan and may not hit the U.S. shores for another year or two later.
I'm really surprised that Blu-ray surpassed DVD in Japan so fast though because DVD has been around so long, and Blu-ray just came along and overtook it in Japan within a matter of 2 - 2 and a half years... amazing.
Will the EA empire fall in 2009 as well? EA posted a net loss of 310 million and slashed 600 jobs. NO, EA isn't going anywhere.

Many companies around the world have cut jobs in this economy, but does that mean that they will "fall"... NO. The companies are just doing what is necessary to cut costs, remain profitable, and stay afloat...
A lot of companies have cut jobs and are scaling back operations to save money in this tough economy.
If there was an article about Toshiba cutting jobs then hardly anyone on this site would care, but because Sony is cutting jobs and they have the Playstation business, 360 fanboys want to start the whole "PS3 is doomed" crap. Many companies going through the exact same situation and the PS3 isn't going anywhere.
Sony did say about a month ago that the deman...
@die_fiend,
Just get a PS2 and play the God of War trilogy. If you haven't played any of the God of War games yet, you have already missed out on a amazing franchise and if you have a PS3, you just cannot miss out on God of War 3. And if you do have a PS3, don't even think about playing God of War 3 before you play the previous God of War games because it's a story driven franchise and God of War 3 basically starts off where God of War 2 ended and there is literally no time gap i...
"sure the ps3 has great games we all know that..
the problem is that these great games dont go any farther then the store shelf.. "
Honestly to me, it really doesn't matter how fast the games sell on the PS3, as long as the PS3 has a continuous stream of quality exclusives, that's all that matters to me.
The PS3 has plenty a couple of system sellers for 2009, and I'm confident that games like Killzone 2, Final Fantasy XIII in Japan, and Gran T...
Isn't this the same "blog" that gave 3 reasons why Microsoft will Lose in 2009? This is a joke. I guess he must have changed his mind, LOL. It's obvious that the people that write this aren't professionals, just random gamers on the net with a site.
"1. Microsoft Hasn't Announced Anything"
I'm not sure if that's a good thing or a bad thing... the only thing that Microsoft has really shown off for 09' is Ninja Blade. The development for Alan Wake h...
I definantly don't think that Motorstorm Pacific Rift should be on the list because it's a solid racing game and I like it.
I agree that Haze and Too Human should definantly be up their, as well as Mercenaries 2 and possibly Star Wars The Force Unleashed, but I don't really agree with most of everything else on that list.
Something tells me that for their "Most Overrated" games of 2008 coming tommorrow, they are going to list either MGS4 and/or LBP.... even...
Well, I'm sure that it's been the Japanese PSP sales that have caused the PSP to outsell the PS3, because if it wasn't for Japanese PSP sales, I think that the PS3 might actually have a slight lead, but obviously the PSP is cheaper, so it should be selling more.
I guess they think that just because the PSP hasn't had that many big game releases that it shouldn't be outselling the PS3, but I guess a lot of people are buying PSP's for things non-gaming related. The PSP is a pretty ...
There's been a couple of Video game companies that have been hit pretty hard by the economic situation. Sony did fund plenty of the development for Lair, so even if Lair would have been more of a success, Factor 5 might have still been in the same situation they are in now, who knows.... even if Lair did get better review scores, I don't really think that it would have sold substantially better.
There's been several video game companies that used to be afloat like 3DO and Acclaim...
LOL, you've got a point. If they don't show a teaser trailer or something, then no one will get anticipated for it.
How can someone get anticipated for a game that doesn't exist?!
I'm guessing Ubisoft wants to hear more people possibly talking about a sequel, but they need to actually confirm a sequel to Assassin's Creed is coming first to get people excited.
Metal Gear Solid 4 in Japan has sold nearly the same amount as the Xbox 360 in Japan. MGS4 is just a little over few hundred thousand units off (about 120,000 units) from selling the same amount that the 360 has.
The Xbox 360 has been out in Japan for 3 years, is much cheaper, has had tons of JRPG's but hasn't hit a million in Japan yet? NOW THATS SAD.
The PS3's installbase in Japan is nearly 2.5 million and MGS4 sold 671,706 units in Japan and if you do the math, a...
Half the games on the list are PS3 exclusives, and I guess that Final Fantasy XIII is "semi-exclusive" because it's not hitting the Xbox 360 in Japan, and Japan is where most FF games sell the most.
There's definantly less heavy hitter 360 games lined up for 2009 so far to me. Microsoft needs to get both Alan Wake and Conviction out in 2009 if they want a solid lineup.
Killzone 2, God of War 3, Gran Turismo 5, Uncharted 2, and Heavy Rain are my top 5... as ...
I never thought the PS3 needs "saving". The Playstation 3 is still selling consistently month per month despite the $399 price point.
Even though people want to point out how much the 360 outsold the PS3 during Black Friday, people tend to forget to look at how much more the PS3 sold this year during Black Friday compared to last year. The PS3 sold about DOUBLE the amount this year during Black Friday than it sold last year in the U.S., and the PS3 is still at $399.......
@ CanadianGuy,
Thanks for the clarification. Bubbles.
Hmmmm. I wonder if these "Free Missions" are some of the same missions that were included with the Collectors Edition version of Far Cry 2... and if it is, I'm pretty sure those people who bought the Collectors Edition will feel a little ripped off.
Don't forget about Madden because that franchise is probably EA's biggest cash cow. If it wasn't for Madden, I think that EA would have had a pretty disastrous year. Burnout Paradise also sold over a million and did well, but yeah, pretty much everything else they released had pretty dismal sales for EA compared to Burnout and Madden.
My only EA game all year was Dead Space and to me was their best game this entire year.
"Have you ever tried to hold down L2 or R2 on the PS3 for an extended period of time?"
Ummm, yeah I have actually... when playing Dead Space L2 is to run and have no problem with it.
And just in case anyone doesn't know, in Killzone 1, L2 was the same button to Crouch, and to me it seems like Guerrilla is just trying to keep the Control scheme pretty close to Killzone 1's, and that's fine with me. Usually whenever a developer comes out with a sequel to a ga...
It's really amazing how far this game has come when looking at the comparisons.
I actually did like the old "Grey" look a little, however I think that the newer build just looks lot more polished, has deeper colors, and has more color.... My most anticipated game on the PS3 of all time is almost here... now come on Guerrilla, announce a Collectors Edition too.
And I did read Optimus Prime's comment before it was Reported as Spam, and all I've got to say is ...
As much of a PS3 fan I am, I think it's a little too early to tell if the 360 will be "doomed in 2009". I mean, Microsoft has a $199 console, so 2009 should be pretty good for them sales wise...that is as long as they keep a steady stream of exclusives to continue to drive sales.
The fact that Microsoft has said very little about their 2009 lineup makes me think that the PS3 will have a stronger lineup overall though... I mean, 2 of the biggest potential 360 games for 2...
Blu-ray is not just DVD, it's a whole new format and it is a big deal that Blu-ray has surpassed DVD in Japan this quickly because that just goes to how successful Blu-ray will eventually be worldwide, and all of the critics with their "Blu-ray is dead" articles have failed so miserably.
