Must preorder! That level looks like so much fun.
I'd like to see a reboot of the 'Legacy of Kain' series.
Gaming, however, doesn`t cause permanent physiological changes within the player`s brain structure. The physical effects of gaming, increased heart rate, etc., do not result in a physiologically-based craving for gaming.
Gaming is a behaviour, nothing more. As I said, he needs to seek professional help. But to put a person like this in the same category as a heroin addict is laughable. If that`s the case, then every form of entertainment should be scrapped or closely monitore...
If we were talking about books, I'd agree with your point about being able to relate to the character.
Since "God of War's" plot has more in common with Ancient Greek epic poems and tragedies, Kratos doesn't have to be a character people can relate to. He's larger-than-life, a flawed, tragic hero of the Greek epic tradition. He suits the game plot much better than a more complex, introspective, or postmodern protagonist.
Where did I saw it was different in my above post? I didn't bring up other consoles because the writer mentioned 360 specifically.
No need to get so defensive, chief.
It's on my list, too. Nintendo has really stepped up this fall.
People aren't forced to game. I don't believe in gaming addiction; it's just a means of escaping from real life and its responsibilities.
If anyone allows any form of gaming to impact their lives like that, they obviously need to seek some form of professional help and find out why they're using games in that way.
It's refreshing to read an article that does a good job of explaining its points without devolving into fanboyism.
Since I already have a PS3, and can live without the 360 exclusives (though I wouldn't mind playing the Fable games), there's no reason for me to purchase one right now.
Completely agree. The original 'Tactics' is a fantastic title - one of my favourites on any console - and I also loved FF XII.
An HD 'Tactics' would make me giddy, provided SE didn't screw it up.
Kinect's not the future for me, since I'm disabled, and I actually prefer gaming tech I can actually use to something that's been hyped like gaming's Second Coming.
Here's a "crazy idea" for developers working on Kinect software:
Make games for it that I, and other physically disabled gamers, can play sitting down.
What a ridiculous blanket statement for that 'journalist' to make. The 360 is the best software experience on consoles for him, but he doesn't speak for every gamer in the world.
It's that kind of pointless hyperbole that makes tech journalism laughable.
@shadyiswin:
I can't use Kinect, actually. I have mobility and balance impairments that prevent me from standing up without crutches. It's unusable for me.
I have no problem with the ideas behind it, and whether it succeeds or fails makes no difference to me. My concern is that it could turn out to be disastrous for Microsoft if it doesn't work as people expect. Unlike Nintendo, Microsoft doesn't have a stable of family-friendly characters to ...
A future that denies gamers with mobility impairments the chance to experience this "rich ground for invention."
It seems like a solid voice cast. 'Fable III' is shaping up nicely.
Off-topic: The "Legacy of Kain" series has the best voice casting in gaming, in my opinion. I prefer lesser-known actors in games to A-list casts.
One game isn't indicative of all the games, though. Why make such a broad-based assumption? Wouldn't it be better to actually see how several different games with both options play before generalizing like that?
Back in the old days, I had an Atari 2600. I had friends with an Intellivision and Colecovision. We'd hang out and play games, neither knowing, nor caring, about hardware specs or sales figures. We were kids, not hardware engineers or businesspeople.
It seems like the console 'wars' have become more rabid with each successive gaming generation. Maybe it has something to do with how popular and mainstream gaming is now. Back then, gaming was a more solitary activit...
I'm looking forward to trying out the XMB and BD navigation to see how much more accessible the Move is over the controller or BD remote.
Exactly. As long as Sony and Microsoft continue to cater to their main fanbase, things will work out. Expanding the market is great. Isolating the core fanbase is a recipe for disaster.
I play all kinds of games, from old school board and card games to what people call 'hardcore,' and most gamers I know have play styles and preferences that are just as varied.
These things aren't black and white, though it seems some gaming media and some gamers p...
Western literature and culture has tens of thousands of years of storytelling, both written and oral tradition, where heroes (main characters) are male. Campbell called it the 'Hero's Journey.' Epics from Homer, to Beowulf, to the Arthurian legends, and today's action movie heroes, feature the stories of men battling against adversaries. So it's hardly surprising that most games feature male leads - or that some gamers are more comfortable with male leads.
