I bought a Wii U earlier this week on the strength of Nintendo's E3 digital briefing. I always wait at least a year before buying Nintendo's home consoles - sometimes several years - but the presentation gave me the little push to make the jump. I bought the Mario bundle, and I've been pleasantly surprised at how great the gamepad is. Being able to control the TV from the gamepad? Fantastic. :)
I want to get excited, but since we're talking about Squenix, I'll wait for an official announcement.
True, but some of us don't game on PC, so the PS4 release gives us a chance to play them.
We share that experience, darth. Cheers to those of us who are gaming's Geezers. :)
on-topic: You can never be too old for video games, or movies, or TV shows, or books, or... you get the idea. I'll be gaming until I can't, simple as that. If you think that growing older means you shouldn't enjoy entertainment, then I'd you're missing out on a great deal of fun.
I really enjoy Nintendo's games, though I always wait a few years for ...
Not every game needs to be a sandbox/open world title. Some types of games are better suited to linear gameplay. That's hardly a bad thing.
Yes. It's intriguing, but more info would be welcome.
Really looking forward to this. Can't wait to pick it up for my bedroom tv.
I cannot wait for this game. Not every game needs to bring innovative gameplay to the table. Sometimes, the most enjoyable games use familiar elements but employ them in robust settings with strong characters. And Galahad's super sexiness definitely helps. ;)
The atmosphere and aesthetic of 'The Order' is what makes me want to play it and learn its story. Day 1 for me, without doubt.
I didn't see anything at MS' conference that made me want to purchase an XB1. They had a solid showing, don't get me wrong, but nothing at their conference gave me that 'I have to play this' feeling.
Nintendo managed to pique my interest in a Wii U, though, so that will be the second current gen system I buy, most likely by Christmas. I had very little interest in Wii U before, so kudos to Nintendo for making me a believer.
And I agree th...
My thoughts exactly. Both conferences did a solid job of showcasing some great upcoming titles for their respective bases, with a few surprises thrown in, but didn't really offer any compelling reasons to purchase either console for the 'fence sitters' imo.
Both MS and Sony played it safe. They were pretty evenly matched.
Dear gods, yes. 3D Dot was so much fun.
The first thing that struck me about its reveal was the 'origami' look of the bird. The art style, and the concept, are intriguing. I'm going to have to pick this up.
LBP 3 coming out in November was my highlight. :) Let It Die and Bloodborne are games I'll keep an eye on, and Entwined looked fantastic. Sony's show made me glad to own a PS4. MS' didn't entice me to buy an XB1.
Neither show was terrible, and neither was outstanding. 7 to 8 out of 10 for both.
You must have missed the LittleBigPlanet 3 on-stage demo? That's out this year and came out of the blue.
My gaming life has certainly changed a lot over the decades. I don't have the free time for games that I used to have, for example, so I've found that it makes more sense for me to buy only the consoles that suit my needs rather than owning all of them per generation.
I also enjoy casual games now as much as the "hardcore" titles, especially since it's easier to set aside a smaller block of time for casual games. The days of me pulling late-night gaming...
I've always liked that type of design. Accessing new areas is like an achievement in a way, and it adds to the experience.
A game that's self-contained - i.e. it has a full storyline, side quests, unlockables and collectibles is worth the $60 to me, but when you have to buy a key to unlock content already on the disk? No way. Those games should cost less, since they're not offering you a complete experience out of the box.
Optional DLC is different, since you don't need to buy it to enjoy the full game, but you should have full access to the game material on the disks you buy.
...
This looks glorious.
Exactly. MS faced a really tough situation, and they're trying to do what they can to make the XB1 more attractive to consumers. It's a real 'rock and a hard place' situation for them. No matter what moves they make, some will view them in a negative light for making those moves.
Meh. It's all personal opinion. The best console for me to buy is the one with the games I most enjoy playing. That's why I opted for PS4 and Wii U this gen. Sony and Nintendo have the exclusives that interest me, and having a Vita, PS3, and PS4 makes PS+ an incredible value for my money.
In the end, it all comes down to what exclusives, features, and experiences each individual gamer prioritizes. Console choice is subjective.
