The game industry is in a tough market. It would be so much easier for these companies to make it if the core gamer base were large enough to profit.
Instead they rely on making their products appeal for other reasons...in hopes they can expose the product of gaming and permanently grow their consumer base.
Being a social and popular product is a very powerful, and self driven, way to succeed in the business sense. Yet it is one of those strategies that no...
I can't believe how fast the time went. I need to preorder this game so I can get the movie character bonus pack!
It has been popular because it came first to the market. Unlike previous console generations, this generation is rooted deeply with social ties. By being first the Xbox 360 created an exclusive foundation of social groups and user accounts.
On the social level each game and system is sold under the pretense of "who" has it. It doesn't necessarily sell for it's quality as a game if 7 of their friends don't own it. People will buy games and products i...
They are similar. They are not the same. They have become similar through time, although their histories have traveled down very different paths.
The internet has brought these two platforms closer together, this is true. Much moreso than the gradual emergence of Consoles getting harddrives, keyboard and mice support, etc...and PC's getting outputs to large TVs, stereos, and gamepads.
However, consoles will always be what they are...an outdated piece o...
What matters to me is quality games and hardware, the support for the physical format, support for ownership in the digital realm, and an overall sense of control over the products I buy. I want the company who sells me products to not only value games but to also think like a gamer.
I'm really tired of the business-related facts that some websites use to justify/critique a topic. I'm tired of seeing sales and company performance used as a baseline for a products'...
I believe there was some confusion on my part regarding the Cross buy feature of the Playstation Vita. For some reason I thought the "Cross Play" meant using the same game across the two systems. Since Cross Play was announced back from launch I assumed Cross Play was the Cross Buy announced from launch. I was wrong.
Anyway I purchased a Vita for Xmas and have yet to play the system yet. Indeed more time should be allowed for the Cross Buy feature (or Promotion)...
"How are they not pushing cross buy to your satisfaction?"
The PS Vita was released in February this year (Dec.2011 in Japan). During it's 11 month release the PS Vita has failed to establish Cross-Buy as a standard feature for it's system.
As it stands right now the Cross-Buy feature accounts for less than 5 games. This includes PS Allstars, Sly Cooper: Thieves in Time, and Ratchet & Clank: Full Frontal Assault. The promotion you me...
It seems neither side gave the Vita justice. How can Sony bundle a game with their console not knowing the quality of a game that is supposed to represent their console? Didn't they bother to play it or were they only concerned that the game was exclusive and that's all that matters.
The only thing these two companies have in common, at this point, is they both had really great ideas and bundled two failing executions into one package.
Sony has come...
The question no one has asked...
Why haven't they made the appearance an option?
Reduced digital download limits? No ownership for anything digital even if you say "own"? You can update our paid consoles without a vote? What, you can't be sued? What, you took away features in the name of protecting the consumer from hackers... but left an internet browser that crashes the console 50%+ of the time..for 2 years now? What do you mean you have no obligation to provide a backup of digital content you purchased? What do you mean you can't back up copyrigh...
Online, in general, has been the cause of most problems this generation. Gamers have lost control of their accounts, the ownership of their games, functions on their consoles, and the overall sense of community with the fellow gamer. What used to be a simple concept of improvement has utterly become a trade-off of taking something for giving something to the gaming community.
Due to gaming in a realtime environment such as online, I have lost the ability to associate any ident...
Very funny video. I would purchase this game as is. The glitches alone sold me.
I really enjoyed this game.
Why do we have to pay for a feature when the Vita was advertised, as a system, to have this ability?
Sony should sell the console like a cell phone. Offer a free console (or discounted one) with a PS+ contract. I still think the PS3 would be generating more income having more customers buying products from their store and services after the fact...instead of keeping their doors closed through higher console prices.
The industry has made the decision to move toward the masses. The masses don't whine or feel some sort of entitlement. That is why insult our particular consumer group. We are now in the minority with the threat of extinction. They know this. That is why they are changing long established franchises and pissing off their followers. They are seeking a larger audience that dwarfs ours and to them the risk of losing us is worth it.
What they do not understand yet is th...
The author mentions three theories how gamers could destroy the game industry.
1) Social Gaming
2) Fanboyism
3) Income
Basically it comes down to three personal motives that drive an opinion away from the quality of a game. Though I agree the author is on the right track I believe it is part of a problem much bigger than this.
The author lists the overall problem as the first theory but the reasons are misinterpreted. Social...
I liked Tekken for it's ability to integrate real martial arts styles. I found it interesting to see which art was more effective against other art styles. I also liked Tekken for being one of the first fighters to have a throw move/takedown as a moveset. Granted I never liked some of the characters (like a Panda bear, Yoshimitsu, and stick man) that didn't fit the roster but at least the foundation of characters seemed complete. Doesn't seem so with All Stars.

Big Daddy is represented in Bioshock, a non-Playstation, non-exclusive character that just so happens to be releasing a third Bioshock. Raiden is represented in a couple Metal Gears, a non-Playstation, non-exclusive character that just so happens to be releasing an entirely new franchise spun off stealth. Yeah, then we got the new Dante who represents the NEW Devil May Cry reboot which of course follows the same situation as above. That boils down one thing. These characters made the Play...
In the wake of the announcement that FFXIII would no longer be a PS3 exclusive, a series of events would follow shortly thereafter.
First, and foremost, the realization that the most important exclusives were subject to jumping ship caused a serious wakeup call to the industry, it's fans, and to the companies that had them. The FFXIII incident was one of the major announcements that signaled the forthcoming extinction of exclusive loyalty.
Second, it cau...
