From what I understand, VGChartz is the only reliable sales data source for worldwide sales. Although it's less accurate than NPD, it still gives a worldwide statistic while NPD is limited to U.S. only.

The numbers may be off but not so much to be a concern here. Older statistics have a much better chance to be adjusted and corrected. The risk of inaccuracy lies within the Christmas '08 season, where the 360 outsold the PS3 by a huge margin.

I think the PS3 sales will turn around in 2009. They have such a great line up this year.

It's as simple as that. I want everyone to stop clicking on negative news for the next month. These news sites may be biased but they are getting rewarded for doing it. Forget it. I won't click another PS3 bashing article through February. Once these media sites see the difference they will stop and realize we don't want to hear it anymore. Who's with me?

This media bashing is very blatent. It's not a question of "if" anymore. It's common knowledge now that this PS3 bashing has gone overboard. The question now is "why". I've been around since prior to the PS3 and I've read it all. The media and fanboy complaints have been answered by Sony since launch. That is a fact. Every major issue has been accounted for, just like Killzone 2. Trust me, the developers listened to all the complaints and have rectified that game as ...

Look, I hate when people set games up to be failures. Calling any game a "killer" to any franchise does nothing but create comparisons between two titles, and nothing can kill a great memory or experience.

Let's face it. Halo, Gears of War, Doom, and Final Fantasy are among the best memories gaming has to offer. There was, and never will be a killer to any of these games. Doom was never "killed" despite the many so called attempts throughout the years. ...

The 360 sold 5,360,811 with no competition around. The 360 has outsold the PS3 2.4 million from it's launch until today. Most of that 2.4 million was the 1st year of PS3 life without many games. However, in 2008, despite the PS3's higher price tag, the PS3 managed to outsell the 360 8 months out of the year. Why? It had games. Great ones. So, looking at a "fair fight" perspective:

360 (21,667,767) vs. PS3 (19,198,097).

2009 will bring a PS3 pri...

The answer to the article then would be because they removed it. Wow, that makes sense. That was obvious enough to figure out. However, I don't think that is truly "why" they don't have backward compatability anymore. Here is the real reason and a more logical one.

No one was buying a PS3 at the time. Everyone was still buying a PS2. There was no reason to have a product that competed with their own AND resulted in a higher price too. It was more logical to let...

I read the article and am disturbed that a TV will be jacked into the internet. Has anyone ever thought past the effects of convienance here? Hasn't cell phones, cable TV, and every other service based product taught people enough about how digital downloading will ruin ownership?

Quite simply, agreeing to "terms and conditions" is not my idea of ownership. I don't care if the button says "buy". Why? Regardless if they say you bought it, there is a serv...

Believe it or not but console gaming is being pushed in this direction. People don't realize that 360 owners are paying a subscription fee to play the online portion of their games. What bothers me is the blatent attack on the disc format.

Prior to online, discs were reliable and complete off the shelf. They had to be because there was no online available. But now, people are touting online as a solution to bugged disks, when online caused this problem to begin with. In...

There is no justification for the bashing that has occurred over the past two months. I personally have seen about 20 PS3 bashing articles that were released on the internet 2 weeks surrounding LittleBigPlanet's release. This has happened with the release of Resistance 2 as well. The PS3 bashing is way too obvious for anyone NOT to notice. This is worse than the PS3 launch and the kicker is that Sony has been improving all the way through to this very day. That's a fact. Don't believe m...

The PS3 needs a redesign for it's "bottom line" model.

1. Remove the autoloading.
2. Have an open/close door for disks.
3. Remove the media slots under the media door.
4. Sell Wifi separately.
5. Have regular eject and power buttons.
6. Maybe remove the optical and HDMI...maybe.

The PS3 CELL will be reducing to a 65nm chip, thus reducing costs. This will happen in March '09. It would be a perfect time to release i...

"I was aware that they put NVIDIA chips into the Xbox which they didn't have permission to do or something like that.. they didn't drop the Xbox because of the 360.. no, not at all."

Regardless of excuse, they still dropped support for a product they sold. It doesn't change the fact that

"MS was addressing the manufacturing issues the day the 360 was released.. I mean.. to think they've been covering it up for 3 years, you would have to have been living u...

They no longer apply today. It's like complaining today that the PS3 has no games. It was true 2 years ago but it has no basis now. Let me give you some Microsoft examples that counter yours except most of my complaints still hold water today.

Microsoft is more arrogant than people think. They dropped support for the original Xbox and left me with no online gaming. Why? Because 360 was the new thing. When I called customer service they told me to go out and buy a 360, ev...

The entire answer is in the "10 year plan". All Sony is doing now is making the PS3 competitive against the 360. Sony is just waiting until the Wii and 360 run out of steam before they move in to full potential. How do I know this?

One thing I know about Sony, they support their products, failure or not. UMDs have been supported all these years despite lack of success. The PSP has been supported as well and is just now hitting it's stride, mainly because of the P...

I've been watching the PS3 ever since prelaunch. While I can somewhat justify the bashing back then, I can't see the continuous nagging I see today. The PS3 wasn't good enough then and still isn't good enough today. Quite frankly, I'm tired of the media bashing this console despite how far it's come. 99% of the media and fanboy complaints have been shot down over time but new ones always come up. Why?

At launch the price was too high. No games. No HDMI cable. Sony never won...

I have been playing video games since the Atari 2600. I have extensive research knowledge of where the gaming industry is headed. Here is a quick breakdown of the future. Game consoles will be a PC/console hybrid. It will be an all-in-one entertainment center in your living room. It will play movies, music, games, and have PC and telephone functions. All movies, music, and games will be downloaded to your harddrive. Disks will be eventually be phased out. Here's the kicker: In order to ...

I agree that Xbox Live can do a lot. But by comparing it to cable, PC, and cell phones is a mistake. The business structure of all these, including Xbox Live, will financialy break you faster than any other business structure out there. Cable is THE perfect example of what's in store for Live. When cable first came out, you simply paid for it and got everything. It was a good service. However, over the years, "content control" caused the basic service to turn to crap. Who doesn...

jmoneezie...How can anyone tell that 20% of a game is stripped? No one can. That is why it is done. To sap more money out of the consumer by making them believe the 20% online is "Extra" content. We call this abusive microtransactions. It is not right. Gaming is getting stripped down like this. Episodic gaming will kill sequels. There will be no part 2,3,or 4. Just continuous releases until people tire of it. Another example is "download-only" games. There is no h...

To answer your question about developers causing these fragmented games: Why 360 and not PS3? Think about it for a moment. Why would EA release the same game differently for each console? The answer is simple. We are both different consumer groups. It is Microsoft that designed the 360 setup. Remember the PC? And Windows? That is why the 360 is a fragmented console. It gives the consumer the "Illusion" of choice. The pieces you do buy, however, cost more. The 360 consumer w...

I agree. Things cost money. The only thing about Microsoft I dislike is their business structure. I like to know up front what I have to pay for. I don't like the idea of getting a game 80% complete and paying the rest in microtransactions. Look at The Godfather for PS3 and 360. The Godfather is 100% complete on the PS3. The 360 version stripped 20% out and sells it online. If the 360 version was cheaper to start, I wouldn't have much of a problem with it.
