I agree that it is maddening how poorly optimized so much software is on P.C. I look at Horizon and marvel that my PS4 is giving me that level of quality. I think about how my P.C. makes my PS4 look like hardware from a couple generations ago and think about what that P.C. SHOULD be able to put on display compared to what it actually does. I can't imagine what CURRENT P.C. optimized titles COULD look like with the hardware available. That said, I know Horizon has made me that much more im...

I will just add:
Her landing strip comment is a TOTAL JOKE! Apparently wire like curly hair is the same thing as genitals to her. Perhaps she will be satisfied then if the next Witcher patch exposes Geralt with a GIANT DANGLING (or jutting if she like) CURLY BUSH OF BLACK HAIR and she can call it his penis.

I also find it sad that she thinks "normal" for most women is pair shape and that is depicted in art (and games) is not only abnormal but not designed...

Just as a side... The comment about the early/late 90s might not be totally fair... In many ways (at least in the U.S.) I feel like we've gone backwards on the moral side (read on -- I might not be saying what you are expecting at this point)... Though we undoubtedly have much easier access to nudity/sexually explicit material --- with the exception of homosexual subjects, society MOSTLY makes a much bigger fuss about it all than we did in the 80s. We're so much more easily up in arms...

It is clear that both Oculus and HTC/Valve are committed to VR for the LONG haul and both are aware that this is not going to be anywhere close to mainstream for years to come. Additionally, most of the current and projected (major) HMDs share enough to make one becoming unusable or mostly unsupported fairly unlikely. With that said, it seems pretty safe to assume that the current HMDs will be around for a long while to come. The challenge lies in the (currently) relatively high entrance fee ...

That's not it at all. Good VR experiences can make users feel as though they are "present" in a given setting. It incorporates full 3D (that feels natural -- not movie/gimmick --) and is convincing enough that even with poor graphics and limited displays the immersion is convincing for many.

If you wanted to play a non VR game on the headset - then yes, your descriptions would be accurate. The problem is that without experiencing it there is no way to really a...

Funny: I am NOT calling anyone out in what is a civil chain of discussion here - only observing the patterns I've watched over a period as a VR fan in general. When folks praise Vive for its room scale ability, Rift fans are quick to point out that Oculus has the same capability with Touch.

When people criticize Vive for requiring space, the Rift fans are quick to explain how Rift doesn't need all that space and is thus better. Too, Vive fans are quick to point out th...

I just want to see VR do well and if this can help ensure that future then bravo Sony. The impressions are certainly that it is something far better than a "budget HDM". That said, I agree that Vive looks to be the ultimate VR option of the HMD crop.

I hear ya! It is crazy. Your card is NO slouch.

Great game and truly gorgeous but feel like it is poorly optimized. I run a single (overclocked) 980Ti and feel like this game should run faster than it does (even with the eye candy). I'm pretty sure that cards like that have longer legs than to have this game sub 60 fps at 1080p ----even with most options set pretty high. And yes, everything else I have runs AMAZING. Still, awesome game/visuals.

Except for your concern about PSVR, I enthusiastically agree with your thoughts.

I would love if they came up with a way to substantially decrease processing power requirements while achieving the necessary refresh rate and low latency. That would be a tremendous breakthrough. However, unless they have found a way to think FAR outside the box, those achievements would probably have to involve hardware/software accomplishments that extend beyond the headset alone.

@ iqri - This should help explain (though the name of the article is misleading it addresses your question and how it is relevant) :

http://gizmodo.com/the-neur...

Incidentally, the modern VR products are LOW latency and that is part of the reason that most of the people who actually have had a chance to USE THEM (not just VR haters who heard about early hardware) ...

Wow --The moment I read, "has everything a VR headset needs, high latency rates..." I wondered if the author was qualified to speculate. Either that, or we've all been mislead and high latency VR is where it's at! The mobile VR app could be called "Dizzy Drone".

"Since the games on the list have been selected by how they stand up today rather than what they accomplished for their time..."

According to their rankings:
49th Place) Witcher III
25th Place) Skyrim

I'm going to have to agree that not all the rankings make sense based on their own description. I'm not sure Skyrim would deliver the same thrills for me (that it did) if I were to play it today for the first time --- after play...

VR could be applied to so many genres that are essentially being neglected in the holy grail like quest to achieve "presence" and therein set VR apart from all other gaming. While achieving presence will be tremendous if done right, I believe that VR headsets could be wonderful (if done with just a little care) for so many traditional games that ARE NOT first person driven. It could be pretty amazing to feel like we are literally looking into a 3rd person gaming world. The technolog...

Oh my goodness how I wish the development community would get that and keep it in mind. They (especially Sony in order to understandably ensure the experience matches their current vision) want to emphasize "presence" and that is certainly a critical element for certain types of VR experiences that can change gaming in spectacular ways. That's great. Why limit the compatible software when the hardware has the potential to allow any game to fill our fields of vision with the opti...

I wonder if Major Nelson can now say, "alright, you got me, it was a good name afterall." Or, does he just think this new news is disrespectful to the team?

It makes more sense from a business perspective and a freedom perspective for developers. Glad it could help... It is a legit answer. Brutal but sadly true.

Though I do think the business angle has some holes--in the fact that multi-plat would obviously be more of an ideal option in most cases. Still, seriously, if you get to develop on only one, which one would you bet the farm on?
