To be fair, while the detail and well, nearly everything are obviously technically "superior" in the new shots, I believe there is more to say.
The hardware limitations of earlier generations forced the artists to use lighting/colors/textures etc. that while technically very primitive, presented a very strong atmosphere and distinct identity that played a large role in creating the "feel" of the game. These elements helped provide an element of how you remembered ...
Weird to have 1 upvote and 5 down... I was agreeing with Number1TailzFan and just adding that it seems like developers feel some "need" to throw this stuff in. Both his comment and Einhander have a majority of upvotes and I ended up with the inverse. Confused...
Really nailed it there. Well said. Just because we can, does not mean we have to, and it is almost feeling like it compulsory for so many developers.
In many cases with a good OLED, motion smoothing (assuming you have a television that doesn't introduce copious artifacts when running interpolation) introduces minimal lag and can make 30fps look/feel closer to 120 or at least 60 or better. Resolution + buttery smooth and no blur when panning = nice. Works great for just about anything other than games where reaction times are most critical.
Would like games like this for PSVR2.
This has got to be one of the most ridiculous articles! Generally speaking the product is not even available at regular retail. Most avg. Joe(s) have very little idea of what it is. The fact that, for the most part to get one, one must go online and specifically order it *FROM SONY* (nevermind the launch price) - means there is very little way for the PSVR2 to be a massive sales hit just yet. When it is available with marketing at Best Buy, Walmart, and other similar retail outlets, a much cl...
Well, that and finally having consoles (widely) available after over two years... People wanted a PS5, they just had more of a challenge getting one until now. This is great.
Game looks awesome, but this is also an area where VR could make strides in becoming even more "mass market". Do something like this and link it to a rowing machine or cycling etc. That would DESTROY the current video screen offerings. VR is truly becoming the "dream" that so many of us had and PSVR2 really does seem to be the biggest single step in really touching that so to speak (and yes, I have a reasonably beefy P.C./ 3080Ti and link a Quest to it -admittedly not a Qu...
Lo-Fi definitely looks really interesting. I would actually *really* love to see room scale (which PSVR2 can nicely allow with a the 15 foot tiny cable and self contained tracking - nevermind how the eye tracking could be used here) versions of games *like* Lucas Arts' Monkey Island (series) and original Sierra type (King's Quest, Space Quest, Police Quest, Leisure Suit Larry) games. I believe these types of games would have endless potential/life in VR and were unwittingly made to be...
Don't care about the disagrees I'll get... You said it all very well and I cannot agree more. Thank you for calling it out on things that seem to (for whatever reason) almost always be completely ignored or downplayed for Elden Ring.
Probably because almost nothing released two years in is even designed specifically for this gen. This is a very BIG deal if we want to see what the systems are truly capable of. However, we are reaching diminishing returns (and have been since PS3) where an HUGE increase in power is going to yield an increasingly small comparative difference in presentation.
Not sure if you were replying to me because that is not far from the point I was making (you have to be REALLY close to benefit). But I was adding to that, and saying that due to the very high pixel count of 8K, the fact is that not only do you have to be very close, but you have to be very close AND the screen has to be larger than what is generally considered comfortable and/or realistic at those distances. As I said, the "ideal" for an 8K screen (based on someone with 20/20 visio...
8K is *RIDICULOUS* for almost everyone. Someone can be offended by this, but science is science and this is quantifiable. I'll include a link for recommended viewing distances (based on THX standards) *as well as* 20/20 visual acuity "ideals" to reap the full benefit. I am *NOT KIDDING* that the recommended viewing distance on an 80" screen for 8K and an individual with 20/20 vision (in order to benefit from the pixel resolution on offer) is 2.61 feet or .8 meters... 8K *mi...
"Bugatti Chiron: Has a higher top speed than Mustang GT500." Yep.
Put various drivers in the same cars and I doubt Hamilton would win against multiple drivers currently on the grid… He is more likable than some. He is more consistent than many. Frankly, Hamilton is absolutely phenomenal, but his achievements do not allow a good comparison against other drivers. If scientific experiments were conducted using the same methods and under the same conditions used to compare F1 drivers’ performances in different cars (never-mind eras), most of the scientific com...
FOVEATED RENDERING!! This alone is a HUGE deal.
My P.C. was $4005 -- on sale. Oh wait... What were we talking about?
Regarding comments like Teflon02's:
We worry about fanservice/underage etc. We talk about how GOW and actions between adults are different in video games. I'll be honest, I don't see the fake (presentation in video games) of any subject matter as being justifiably off limits (being entertained by brutal killing isn't always really any better for society than underage fanservice seems to be in Japan). We (gamers) are constantly being forced to defend our hobby and argu...
Refreshing change from the typical, "We are leveraging the full processing power of the hardware to show you what it can do..." semantic game playing that frequently goes on.
Hahaha. Maybe the next great article the author will write will be in 2 years where it is stated, "RTX4090 Claims Debunked as Other GPUs Prove Significantly More Capable".
