Hearing the Space Quest music in the video was a joy.
Correction to an earlier comment that stated:
"PS5 SSD = 5.5GB/sec
DDR2 memory (from 2003...) = 6.4GB/sec
DDR4 memory (latest) = 25.6GB/sec"
The PS5 is already established to be very capable of providing an effective *17.3GB/sec* where texture streaming is concerned (which is part of what was being commented on earlier)...
Regardless of feelings about AC series... X-Files does not deserve this abuse.
THANK YOU for logic!
Disagree if you know the PS5's I/O trumps the PC. Agree if you agree ;-). Go ahead.
I love how disagrees come from those unable to acknowledge that at least *in this respect* the inherently antiquated architecture of the P.C. platform has some major catch up to do. Brute force doesn't fix outdated architecture. The article's own admission places the P.C. performance in this metric WELL behind what some developers (and Mark Cerny) have indicated the PS5 is capable of. Wond...
What a joke - Nice try:
The article states:
"In CrystalDiskMark, the Intel Z490 platform with Rocket Lake CPU was able to achieve over 7 Gb/s reads and over 5 Gb/s write speeds. These are much faster than the 5.5 Gb/s read speeds of the PS5 & truly an impressive showcase of where SSD performance stands right now on PC platforms."
Now Consider:
"Sony expects Kraken to offer up to 1.64 to 1 average compression ratio for games (hence the pot...
This game is not "optimized" for anything - it is *definitely* NOT optimized to leverage the unique architecture of either major next gen console. It is not optimized to show off how effective NVIDIA's RTX core tech is (no raytracing). It is not optimized to utilize PS5s insane IO potential for 17.3GB/s (or possibly more) texture bandwidth etc. It is just running an ***OLD*** engine and while it looks nice, it is nothing close to demonstrating what the consoles or newer NVIDIA G...
The PS5 is still "set to favor a higher resolution"... They said the SX runs "a touch smoother" WHILE IT IS PERIODICALLY RUNNING AT A LOWER RESOLUTION... Reality is, this game engine does not even remotely come close to being optimized for the architecture of either system. That is the real kicker. The supposed "brute force" advantage of the SX running code that is not anything special for either system *should* show here and even after the patch the SX is only r...
Love how they said:
"In the most stringent of our stress tests, Xbox Series X can now outperform PlayStation 5"
Then later stated:
"...in the here and now at least, PlayStation 5 runs with a higher resolution, while Xbox Series X generally runs a touch smoother."
They could have said, "In the most stringent of our stress tests, certain performance changes were observed. The PlayStation 5 is still set to favor a higher resolution at ...
I am not afraid to admit it despite my investment. If I liked competitive first person shooters or e-racing I would feel totally different.
I like my framerate, but it is not as if we are talking about differences that make something pleasant vs. unpleasant to play comparatively for most people. And again, the types of games I prefer (personally) have little benefit from high FPS (esp. if I can run motion smoothing on my display to clean things up further OR ESPECIALLY VRR). This is even more the case with resolution. As I explained (and attempted to emphasize) there are certainly differences in the assets. But:
1) The a...
To the disagree:
Sorry it is upsetting that your (and my P.C.) objectively produce visuals that average folks don't see as all that much (if any -unless side by side-) different when compared to old and much weaker consoles. It is sad, but no matter how much you disagree, it is already true and only becoming more the case. I say it because I'm a little annoyed at the reality and kind of hate that when I am honest with myself (other than jacking up my frame-rate), my P.C. is q...
NO DOUBT the P.C. version is ENORMOUSLY cleaner looking and more refined. However... **if we are considering the overwhelmingly ridiculous power difference** between the PS4 and something like a 3080, in this context, the visual gap here is EMBARSSINGLY/HUMILIATINGLY far from what the power difference would suggest. If the average Joe walked into the room with one of those screens open, left, came back and the other version's image of the same screen was open, there is a good chance it wo...
@S2Killinit
I believe you are correct. It will still "rumble" but the true effect of the DualSense's potential for precision etc. will likely not be utilized without specific development focus.
I'm just hoping that when they do the next-gen optimized version they go all in with DualSense support. That feature alone could make the likely graphical differences nearly meaningless. If it were competitive multiplayer, I would still be looking at mouse/keyboard. For a single player experience that emphasizes deep immersion in a rich world like this, the DualSense support could be one of the biggest and truly exciting factors for me regarding my platform of choice. The DualSesnse is al...
@alb1899
The SX has more "brute force" "power" but while it is a nifty bit of kit, there is considerably less polish in its design. It is as if they simply wanted to make a decent powered small P.C. The PS5 design takes its power and puts it to smarter, more innovative, and quite possibly better use. It is likely that the geometry engine in the PS5 will be more capable. The 17.3 GB/s throughput from the SSD for texture data on the PS5 could have *visible* benefit ...
@S2Killinit:
THANK YOU AND AMEN!
Refreshing change from the typical, "We are leveraging the full processing power of the hardware to show you what it can do..." semantic game playing that frequently goes on.
