Most old games are just better than anything produced today. There's more crap games on modern consoles than ever were on SNES and N64 and such.

People who can't admit the generalization of such things are true just call them stereotypes. Black people are faster than white people. Asians have higher average mental capacity than anybody else. That's just how it is. I'm not being racist or anything, it's just the facts.

I develop NES games, does that count? If so, my $0.02:

The GPU just seems okay to me. It's about standard mid-range PC tech. It's not complete shit at all, the optimizations they'll give it over PC will make a solid system once they get familiar with it. It won't be a PS4/360 killer, but it'll be a huge upgrade from what we have still. Good programmers should be able to make that card seem just like high-end cards though if they have enough talent. It has...

Why would EA not be allowed to sue Zynga for closely related gameplay? Apparently you can! Although, as a game developer, I don't agree with it either.

I see a C64/Heathkit guitar...that MUST mean there's something coming out with that too!! /s

Who cares?

I know it sounds like a stretch, but when you tell PC gamers they have these good games on it that also happen to run better, they'll do it for the extra performance. :P

And as for the person below me...haha, that's funny, that'll never happen and isn't needed. If you're not smart enough to use a LiveCD, you don't need to be on Linux.

Windows 8 release+Linux Steam client will only mean one thing....Linux will turn into the gaming go-to OS. Can't wait!

Can you figure out how to reply to my comment (3.2) or is that too complicated?

You're a moron. There's one graphics card, but not ONE engine. There is ONE API that you build engines around that Nintendo provides, but every game has it's own engine. You should not be talking about this stuff, you have no clue what you're pounding your keyboard about.

ETA: Still can't figure out how to reply? Somebody must be scared. And I do program the NE...

"Wii U graphic engine"

First off, it's WiiU. Second off, it doesn't have ONE engine, the games all have different engines. They do have a common API, but that's not an "engine" it's just a set of tools basically.I also doubt those tools are easy to find and use as of right now since it just came out and dev kits probably are still locked up and kept track of very tight.

But first and second cheated, so they did come in first and second when you take away the people who had unfair advantages. Your logic is broken.

"..the 3rd and 4th place team will receive their normal amount of prize money and circuit points."

What a load of garbage, DQ the first 2 and move everyone up 2 spots. Cheap a-holes.

You hit the nail on a head. Controls are the most important part of the game...if they're bad If they're good you can really rate the game it's self. But if the controls are bad, no matter how good the actual game is, it won't be good at all.

Loved this. I wish there was a video or something for it too, and more to be done with these as I love to hear which people react and which people plan ahead and succeed and such.

Ha, you don't have to pitch your game at all, whoever wrote this is naive. You have to have people wanting your game. If they'll make money, they'll get you on board. If not? Ha, not a chance in HELL, game designs are a dime a dozen. Thinking of a game is simple stuff, and doesn't interest them in all. Then product does. Only thing that may help your case if you don't have customers waiting is to have a 100% complete version ready for modifications to run on Sonys systems....

Microsoft? Value? Those are some dumb guesses. But consiering they had to do it to not go bankrupt, it won't be a big company. The big companies would never invest in a failing business, they'd create one linking the consumers that already have. My guess, it doesn't matter. It's failing. It's going to fail. It's irrelevant.

Nah. But I am speaking from a developers point of view. The Japanese do try to make good products, but on average the american product is more polished, but may sometimes be simpler. Look at RARE, they were american based and their games on the programming back end were just out of this world. Solar jetman and the tile mapping to ensure a sprite 0 hit to Battletoads with the raw ammount of graphical data being uploaded per frame. There was just more polish to the end code. The Japanese for th...

I wish it was more about things you have to worry about in making videogames, but still a fun and good video regardless!

My favorite topic to talk about on 2D game development is putting a character (which are made of squares/rectangles) on a sloped surface. The answer in the end in either make a sprite for every solution (not doable on systems without tons of sprite character space) or pick your poison trying to cover it some other way, or not at all, heh. :)

I kinda agree with the article, but you gotta remember. When the NES came out, Nintendo was only based in Japan. They extended it and got it released in the US when it came out of course, but it was still rocky. Nintendo games and games made in Japan were a bit better, but the game devs for America got pieces of paper with a punch of number and everything in japanese! The US devs had to basically document everything themselves and figure out how it all worked by themselves, without the basics...
