Mobile games are an example of what happens when the culture industry co-opts something. The experiences become depthless and broad, catering to the super-casual masses, which is pretty bad for games since they're already pretty shallow and juvenile as it is.
I was hoping games would become more intelligent and sophisticated, but this development could seriously hurt that possibility.

I think scoring in general needs to go. It's usually completely non-representative of the actual content of the review, and it puts ideas in people's heads about quality.

If all this is true, the Ps4 sounds like a really solid console. As long as it's easy to develop for I'm happy. That means more games. I can give or take graphics, the possibilities with what we've got already are pretty much infinite.

Also hard to believe that neither Final Fantasy Versus XIII nor The Last Guardian have received release dates. Makes me worry how long ambitious games are gonna take this coming gen.

Yeah, there's something really naff about the first civilization. They look like something out of cheesy 80's sci-fi. Not that there's anything wrong with that, but in the context of the game it's a bit weird.
There's a difference between art and craft. The creation of games is largely craft, and some of those crafted elements produce art, some don't. There are elements of it that can be considered art. The music, the visual design, the story and it's themes and messages, and all those things amalgamated.
As for the interactive side of videogames - the defining aspect of them - I'm not sure you can call that art. I suppose it depends how it links with or is informed...
I'm excited for this game, but part of me wishes they'd just expanded on the direction they were going with XIII-2.
XIII had a stronger narrative, but XIII-2 had more meat on it's bones, and perhaps a slightly better story.

If XIII-2 was planned though, XIII wouldn't have had a self-contained story.
Although I think they said somewhere that they were banking on XIII yielding good returns before they considered a sequel, ssssoo I suppose it's possible they left out the canon ending just in case XIII did badly.
Still, I'm suspicious. I'd already accepted that XIII-2 was an apology to fans for XIII (I think they're both fine games but whatever) and I'm okay ...

Absolutely nothing wrong with girls playing and loving videogames, but there are defintely girls who pretend to like them just to seem quirky and cute and to attract certain types of guys.
