Well its comparable because the FTC argument doesnt really have anything to do with how the games are made…
The whole point of this and everything being checked in other places is to make sure this merger wont put MS in a position in which they will have a chance to start doing monopolistic practices (the FTC explicitly mentioned exclusivity, raising prices on other consoles or giving them less content, etc) . NONE of it has to do with how the games are made.
Honestly, people dont even understand what live service is at this point. They just hate the term.
What exactly would an FPS in 2022 that is NOT live service be?
No new maps released consistently
No new guns
Maybe a map pack at some point that completely breaks the player base/matchmaking
No constant balance / tuning updates
Thats what a live service FPS is at the end of the day. Anything else like battle passes or ...
I think you are severely overestimating the amount of people who already game on PC that would still purchase a console just because of a few exclusives.
And also underestimating how much of the console market exists because of the simplicity of a dedicated gaming console (at a cheaper price) vs a PC
Is there some overlap and a few people who would not buy a PS5 because they already have a PC and could play the previously exclusives there? Sure, but I have little d...
I would honestly hate if they disabled xp share, the feature itself is incredibly convenient, it just needs the rest of the game design to scale to it.
For me, Pokemon really needs some kind of Casual vs Experienced mode given the contrasting levels of age and experience in their market. Even something like forcing you to use the same # of pokemon as your opponent in battle would make for a really interesting change to the battle dynamics
I doubt its that simple. All 3 of them have equal share in The Pokemon Company with each one having a very specific role.
Gamefreak is the one handling game development while the other 2 handle other stuff. So Nintendo probably cant just step in in that regard without some changes in how they all operate
Because Gamefreak is not a Nintendo developer, they are actually equal partners with Nintendo and Creatures in The Pokemon Company.
Nintendo doesn’t have a direct say on how Gamefreak operates and wouldn’t necessarily just “lend” some of their teams in the same way that internal teams do.
Now, given how Gamefreak operates in one of the most strict release schedules in the industry, its clear that the best approach would be to (significantly) increase in size, but a...
On one hand I do agree it looks that there is definitely a need for a better technical team at gamefreak to really work on their engine.
But on the other, they are basically operating on a Fifa/Madden level of release schedule (which incidentally is the kind of franchise that barely sees any innovation)
Even COD and AC had to basically recruit/absorb multiple studios to be able to manage a yearly release schedule.
Legends Arceus isnt even 11 months old at this point...
Which is never going to happen because they are equal partners in The Pokemon Company and which is why Nintendo really has nothing to do with the actual development of the titles.
Would be nice if they cooperated with Nintendo studios though
While it is showing its age, its kind of a separate topic. If anything, Nintendo developers have always been known for really squeezing out whats possible within their hardware limitations, not only in terms of performance but also the visual style they choose for any given game.
Scarlet and Violet to me mostly just highlight the limitations of Gamefreak (from technical or time constraints) and the whole situation revolving how the Pokemon Company operates.
Its really hard not to imagine those rewards weren’t considered as NFTs at one point during development. They basically scream NFT.
So either because they backtracked due to backlash in other companies or just decided to step away from it, lets just hope they never (re)visit the idea
Well, its still 3 out of 4 crossgen titles in the ones you mentioned, so being blown away is kind of besides the point of the games being truly next gen. (Ragnarok still feels like a significant leap vs the first one though)
Returnal could probably also be in PS4 with some cuts in particles, but at least they went full exclusive.
The only other 2 games I can think of that would be more “next gen” and really hard to do on PS4/One would be Plague Tale and F...
At the same time, you can play something on gamepass first while being able to play other games and if its something you really liked and want to own, you have the advantage of being able to wait until a very big sale because you already have/played it with GP
There’s honestly plenty of ways people can take advantage of it
I was always expecting $500, it was a lot more high end tech than the previous one (they are probably selling at a small loss) That said, when you start taking into account games, the price does start piling up
Putting aside that it would be their property, so yes they can do it. They will choose whatever makes most sense financially and thats it.
But that doesnt mean that even if they get the sale approved they cant be ordered later to sell by the same regulators, it has happened in other businesses. So its not entirely up to them to just do whatever they want
She was offered nearly triple the union rate for a union job. How are they not paying them properly?
It is literally the job of a union to negotiate this kind of stuff if they feel the rates are not adequate. It is NOT Platinum’s job (and they it anyway)
It has a lot more mission variety than what I was expecting. Including sone mission types that I wouldn’t have expected at all.
Only a couple of bad missions that I could remember.
Pretty damn good overall
She literally said:
“ But she has no right to say she is the voice of Bayonetta, I created that voice,” Taylor said. “She has no right to sign merchandise as Bayonetta, any more than I have the right to sign as Eva Green even though I was her parent on video game The Golden Compass. That betrayal is hers, and hers alone. They’ll probably try and do a spin-off with Jeanne. Don’t buy that either.”
She is literally calling her a traitor in a call to boycott the game o...
The pads.. probably not, they all use the same manufacturer in the end.
The Triggers which are the other issue on the Elite (at least its pretty easy to fix) are likely to not be an issue on the Edge though.
I’m still curious to see the materials used and how it feels, because valid criticism of the Elite aside, the build quality of the shell and the other components is definitely much higher and expensive than on a regular one
Its kind of weird, because on one hand some of internals are definitely just as cheap as a regular controller (especially bumpers and analogs), but the overall build quality of the rest of the controller + materials used are definitely a significant upgrade over a regular controller. Its pretty easy to tell just by the weight and how it feels
So that definitely has an impact on the perceived value (though still quite expensive tbh). I’m hoping Sony is also improving the mat...
@sinspirit
Yes, its definitely the main point, but not the only thing the FTC has discussed”
Can you honestly tell me that you can read this statement and not think that is pretty much what Sony does with their exclusives and their deals with 3rd party devs for time exclusivity or for releasing certain content only on PS (like avengers, destiny, cod, hogwarts, assasins creed, etc)
"With control of Activision's content, Microsof...
