Wow, I remember renting the one for the SNES (Ogre Battle) like 3 times over the course of a well misspent summer. Memories.
I think if you are someone who hasn't been in the console side of things for a long time, the portable hand held gaming arena is a good place to start. There are a lot of RPGs and interesting games on those platforms.
Darkstorn - I never once said the Federal government. The State government has a State senate. States have State supreme courts.
Ultimately, the Judicial branch of the Federal government will have the last say.
The main theme of my thesis is that overarching powers of government are not there to help you, they are there to control you.
I didn't even touch on the reform bill, which in many ways, is a cure that kills the patient. ...
I completely agree that it is the primary responsibility of the parents to safeguard and decide what is right for their children. But, it seems that in the modern climate of big government and nanny-state politics, that you are finding that to be an antiquated modality.
I mean, look at where we have been heading as a society the last 80 years.
It's funny, no matter what side of the isle you stand on, everybody talks about freedom and democracy, but ...
Downloading extremely large files that are in the 50GB range or more is going to be difficult when you have major ISPs capping your bandwidth at an arbitrary number. Like Comcast at 250GB a month. They want to sell you faster and faster internet speeds, but then balk when you use them. Considering the range of options and the larger and larger field of data that is being supplied to us as end-users; this practice seems rather untenable to the marketplace. Especially, considering this meth...
Although the thought of being able to smell the sewer I am wandering through to get to an ancient tomb - from which most D&D wet dreams spring forth - does excite me, it also disturbs me. Deep down... where I'm cold and hard, like a woman.
I don't think that's coming anytime soon, I do think that the future of gaming and entertainment in general, is going in the realm of total immersion.
Let's face it, most of us know what a holo-dec...
The first game sold 1.5 million units in its first year.
Now, it has sold almost 10 million units worldwide since its release.
My guess is they will sell 2+ million units before this calendar year is up. That's not even 6 full months. If they do that, that will mean $100,000,000 in final retail price sales. Which, probably means 75,000,000 after retail markup; and after that I don't know what the split would be between the developer/publisher. ...
Please show us the data to back up the 'substantial portion' part.
Also, by what metric are you basing 'substantial portion' on?
There are hundreds of millions of people who game - even if only casually - on their computer.
I remember people in my dorm playing burned dreamcast and PS1 games... ah yes, the college days.
Now, that's a great girlfriend.
WTH, didn't the original Bioshock have a similar problem as well with POV?
This is actually really careless. I mean, bugs are something that can and do happen, but that is just plain unacceptable. That is a basic function that should be supported from the start. Between this constant garbage and the pay for DLC that should be part of games (Characters, items, story lines.. ect.) Man, I just don't know anymore.
My 8800 GTS 512 REV(92) is still going strong, even on a 24 inch monitor with a native 1920 x 1200 resolution that I never deviate from.
You summed it up perfectly. This is the most succinct explanation I've heard. People can go on an on about how PC gamers are whining over nothing, but when you strip away the things that make gaming on a PC more enjoyable, what's the point?
PC is me.
Vote in libertarians, the classical liberal(believe it or not) of choice. Go founding principles.
@toaster
Like my dad says, 'That's life.'.
You know, I remember when I had to screw around with dos load files to get my games to work. Back when we would buy our own games AND share them with friends.
It feels like I've been around for a long time and I just turned 29 last month. Things have come a long way, but some things never really change much.
Gaming has become a business, in the sense that the movie industry is a business. Art and passion always take a back seat to the profit margin. It's the natu...
If I could vote agree more than once, I would.
PC gaming at it's finest.
My mom and dad have been together for 39 years and counting. I'd like to think that when I get married, I can have the same love and companionship.
People don't care. People are selfish. It doesn't matter, because he won't come back early(I know I wouldn't). Some people lack the common sense, common courtesy, and respect needed. Do you think he could say,"Hey babe, I know we were going to go to Hawaii for our honeymoon, but there are these bugs in this game I was a producer for and I really need to go back to work to delegate their oversight by my programmers and testers... You see how that's more important than you, right?"...
Video games, just like movies, books, television, and toys are not a reason. A reason is a mental motivation. If you are not motivated to do something, you will find just about anything and everything to put it off to the maximum that current physical law allows. I personally, am astounded by the general public's(and even the rarefied political elite's) inability to understand certain philosophical realities, that we as human beings take part in.
If a kid had a choice between ...
While I understand someone seeing a potential profit center being denied to them, there is a big flaw in the concept of getting a cut of the action.
Since the beginning of formal society as we know it, there has been a barter system, this later progressed and exists parallel to the currency exchange system. But, no matter the system, it is always an exchange of something for something else. Once that exchange has been completed, the parties involved become the owners of said pro...
Personally, I feel that both PC and console have their place. I don't begrudge anyone their platform of choice. I think the more games people are playing and the more choices we have, the better off we are all going to be as a whole.
I myself am a PC gamer first and foremost.
My first experience with gaming was a busted up Pong unit (console), that my brother got at a garage sale. After that, my brother had games he bought for the Apple IIe that we...
