I don't recall many games costing $100.00 in the 90's, unless it was a neo-geo/Atari Jaguar game and then it was even more expensive than that. several hundred dollars.

Sometimes a SNES game would be $80.00.

I had a NES, SNES, Genesis/SegaCD and PS1 in the 90's.

Most of them were about $50.00 + tax.

@StolenSoul - I've heard really great things about Demon Souls. Haven't played it though. Like I said, I think they already have games out there that fit this concept better. I think they should stick to the heart of their success and grow from there.

I hope this system works out...

Can't wait to get this. I'm getting this for the PC.

Even if this were true, I can think of a few ways this might be circumvented. If you are running CFW, you could have a preloader that could fake a key or even somehow manipulate something on the client side masking it to the server side. Also, if they started requiring some games to be authenticated online (like they do with many PC games now, but is unlikely to happen on consoles), you could just create a fake server that does everything the normal one does thereby fooling the program used t...

I'm feeling it... I don't know what it is yet... but, it's being felt...right now.

Man you can always count on the hate for this guy.

You know, I think that most of you are not really aware of what he created pre-Lionhead.

Populous
Syndicate
Dungeon Keeper
Gene Wars
Powermonger
Magic Carpet
Theme Park

All of those are pre-Lionhead

I played every single one of them and they were all great games of their time and in fact, still could be considered ...

While his title is your standard sensationalism, the content of the article is interesting. He actually makes some interesting and not altogether incorrect observations. However, let's be real here, consoles are not dead and they probably won't be by 2014 either.

I'm so used to seeing 'Is PC gaming dead?' articles, that this took me by surprise. I think those articles are just as stupidly titled.

Nothing is dead, until it's dead.

Just keep making the games more open and like a living breathing world with NPC's that seem more like real people. That's all I want, because that is everything that makes single player great.

Amazing interaction, choices, story, content, dialog, adventure, cool things to play with (magic, tomes, equipment), satisfying combat and magic systems, the ability to make a mark on the world or just plain do whatever.

Multiplayer can muddy those waters. ...

I know that's how I conclude most things.

There have been a lot of interesting things created from users since the Kinect came out. I don't know if this can/will replace any control scheme, but it's cool, none-the-less. I still feel most comfortable with a mouse and keyboard in my hand or below my hand. That probably won't change any time soon.

They are not going to rush their next console. It simply wouldn't make any sense. It would end up costing them more for various reasons to rush a new console, than deal with lost sales of their software.

Also, the customer base of the PS3 is still going to be there, pirates or no pirates. Sure, it will have some impact, but I'm betting they will still be very profitable, in fact, more profitable the older the console gets, just like the PS2.

They ...

I mean, that's unfortunate for the people still using those kinds of rigs, but yikes... Pentium 3 and AthalonXP? I had a Pentium 3 back in '99... It's time to move on. I mean, if you can afford to spend $14.00 a month on a subscription, you should be able to upgrade to something higher than a Pentium 3.

But, it's not random. From what they are describing, what you do, how you behave and what kind of relationships you have built, will matter to how the quests are then set up for you.

I don't think you realize what that means.

It will mean that your choices and the actions you take, will have a more realistic and as close to real life consequence and feel as I've ever heard of in a game of this type.

If they can pull this of...

The graphics of course, are looking good, but what I'm really impressed and excited about is the way the game is going to generate quests. I mean, this is going to be totally kick-ass.

I don't think either of those titles applies. It is what it is. I mean, some people probably call Oppenheimer a zero for his part in creating the atom bomb. (not the same thing, just using it as a loose comparison), while others would say he was a hero.

In this case, as with most, the truth no doubt, lies somewhere in-between.

This is more about lifestyle integration that purely gameplay. You could call this shovelware, but it has a useful purpose and would help track and motivate you. I think this could be a good idea. I have the P90X system and it works... and it's hard.

Please explain this, as most of us are from the same genetic stock. I would like an explanation for this comment. My ancestors are Swiss/German/Scottish/English and I doubt there is much difference with my genetic potential and someone that actually lives and was born there today.

My family has probably been in this country for about 150 to 220 years (depending on the side of the family). Is that enough time to see some kind of Darwinian change big enough to make a differe...

I personally didn't call him anything. But, I will say this. That was a pretty condescending thing to say...this isn't your grandmother talking, it's a game designer. My grandmother used to say all sorts of things too, but she didn't make games for an audience of millions and decide that it's too much of a bother to make a demo.

The guy can say what he wants, but that doesn't mean he's right or that they are making the right decision, for themsel...

A smart business person realizes that any additional revenue streams are a good thing and generally worth the effort. Considering they have to develop the damn thing on a PC for a console (specialized computer), it would seem to me that they should be releasing a demo for the PC right alongside the other demos. I'm not sure if Cliffy has the final say in anything with regard to the business side of things. I doubt it highly, in fact. He might have input, but not the final say.

I'm not going to say we have a right to it, because technically, we don't. But, it seems a shitty deal to have the other two platforms get one and PC gets shafted. I mean, is that really necessary? Is it so cost prohibited to do something that has been standard in the industry for decades? EPIC was involved in the shareware model, in their beginning stage. What happened to that similar spirit? Oh right, they got too big and think that it isn't worth their time. Plus PC is dead, ri...
