No they're not. I'm sure they think they are, but I bet they're once again building some highly ambitious always online MMO GAAS monstrosity where teams of 500 people each can run, drive, fly, shoot etc on massive MASSIVE maps, and they'll call it Battlefield and assume it will be a major hit.
And, to me, that's not what I want from Battlefield. I just want medium-sized teams (24-32) on medium sized cool maps, playing short rounds (20-30 minutes) of 5-fl...
Personally, I’m a huge fan of pixel Sonic (the original 16-bit games, and more recently the excellent Mania), so string disagree from me on this opinion.
I think Mania looks much nicer than this new Superstars game.
I was interested when they announced Hong Kong as the location. I was skeptical when it turned out to just be Hong Kong Island (the least interesting part of Hong Kong in terms of scenery and cool roads to drive on), and now that it’s all about MMO and seems to be lacking a SP focus, I pretty much lost all interest.
What a waste, this had potential considering the location.
Nice list, also everything on 1 page, which is how it should always be done.
I was expecting Overcooked to be on this, though.
Most folks lost all their interest in the sequel when they (Ubi) announced their weird plans for it.
You’re forgetting some important stuff though, like far more easily accessible tools for gaming development, far cheaper and more powerful hardware which speeds up development, etc etc, but I’ll just focus on 1 important aspect; The market.
The market for videogames is far FAR FARRRR bigger now than it was 15 or 30 years ago. Back then, you released an AAA title like Donkey Kong Country, or Metal Gear Solid, and when you were lucky enough to have a huge hit on your hands, i...
It all looks amazing to me, tbh. Graphics are truly astonishing, love the colors, effects, anime style, everything, and it’s all so vibrant. It honestly pops off the screen, and the city itself looks gorgeous.
I was really disappointed to learn it’s just gonna be another F2P gatcha game. I really wish they would have brought this kind of production values and wide range of gameplay aspects into a single-player action-adventure rpg.
And yeah, the traversal...
We’ve seen Suzuka Circuit in so many racing games over the year, so it’s pretty hard to get excited about it, TBH. Not a bad circuit at all, also not great, but it’s simply a ‘yeah, been there, done that’ circuit by now. I’m sure it will look better than ever and it will have some new details, but essentially it will just be the exact same track we’ve played for so many many years already.
I would have been (far) more excited if they would announce the return of Fujimi Kaid...
It’s (been) a good year for sure. ‘Best ever’ is always going to be subjective of course, cause it depends on personal preferences plus choices made by devs/publishers, plus historical importance.
Yet, despite all the very good game releases this year, it kinda feels we still haven’t really ‘hit’ new-gen era games yet, which REALLY take advantage of the new specs/hardware. Most of the games listed above most probably would have been possible on last-gen hardware, although ...
I think there are a lot of gamers who don’t particularly care about NHL as in the licenses and everything, but just want the old-skool top-down gameplay that the classic 16-bit NHL games had.
So many of my friends never watched ice-hockey on TV, we didn’t know any of the big players back then (apart from Gretzky, I guess), but we played and loved these games on Genesis/SNES, simply because the gameplay was there; easy to pick up, difficult to master, and it just becomes on...
First time ever a game with ‘Nascar’ in the title actually looks interesting to me. Looks good. Like a modern Sega arcade racer.
I’m actually pretty happy if they ditched the modern-day stuff, cause I honestly just never cared about the whole Desmond sci-fi stuff. The character was boring and the modern-day gameplay simply wasn’t interesting or fun …
I think the decision to go back to old-style Assassin’s Creed is the right one, especially with the focused shorter duration plus the lower launch-price. Not happy about the MTX news which came out, which means I’ll take a very skeptical wait & see a...
I … I actually just care about an expansive cool SP campaign/career mode, Forza …
They whole ‘always online’ was already a big no-no for many. That kinda stuff has no place in any SP career-mode.
I personally don’t care much about these new issues mentioned here, but I’m sure many others do care.
It seems very difficult for devs these days to not shoot themselves in the foot by implementing anti-consumer measures and taking out stuff folks love(d), when releasing a new game.
I wish they would have just prioritized S...
I like that it’s a fictional track cause in theory you can make those as gorgeous and fun to race on as your imagination allows. Driveclub for example had the best track-design I’ve ever played in any racing game, all fictional.
That said, this looks like another American location plus it simply doesn’t look very interesting.
Also, honestly, I just want them to announce Mount Fujimi Kaido …
There is just so much laziness, ignorance, incompetence and greed from the suits in this business nowadays.
As expected, Ubisoft made the jump and did everything right (classic AC gameplay, cool setting, reasonable campaign length, lower launch-price), then at the last minute their usual corporate greed kicks in again and they botch the landing.
This went from possible ‘Day 1 purchase’ to ‘I’ll wait for a deep sale’ …
Yeah, I agree it’s not a classic, but it was the first game I thought of where I really thought; Why would you make that design choice!? If you’re gonna do a thing like that in order to teach the player some basic sneaking controls, at least make the location a bit more interesting, like an abandoned theme park or gorgeous temple or whatever, but now the gameplay was restrictive and boring, but also the location itself.
I liked the Red Dead 2 opening, certainly didn’t feel like a slog to me, but I enjoyed that whole game so for those who were just expecting ‘GTA but with cowboys’, that was probably not the opening they expected, and Red Dead 2 wasn’t the game they were hoping for …
First game that came to mind when I read the title, was Watch Dogs 2, because you’re expecting an open world sandbox game in sunny colorful San Francisco, and instead that opening has you crawling and sneaking a...
It honestly just doesn't look like Van Damme (the body is fine, but the face looks nothing like Van Damme), which is a shame, considering how good Schwarzenegger & Stallone looked in MK11.
