For everyone who finally plunked down $600 in the past month or so, and had only -- what, one release in May? -- to show for it... well, you got boned.

No free game. No nothing. Sony has the extra $100 you paid, and they'll thank you very much.

First off, who is buying the Core 360?

Secondly, MSFT just announced they're taking a $1.1b expense due to warranty costs. That expense has to be offset somewhere, which is why we've seen such a long delay in a price reduction already. Now, announcing this the week before E3 is -- hopefully -- their way of getting the bad news out of the way first.

However, I suspect that if the Core comes down in price it will be to the cost of the Wii ($249). The premium, if i...

Of course it will. Anyone who has followed these boards knows that there is an audience out there waiting for a price drop. Part of that audience (like me) is waiting for the PS3 to come down to $399; others will be satisfied with $499 coupled with games like Heavenly Sword, Lair, Ratchet & Clank, Drake's Fortune... there's enough of a lineup there to get some boxes sold in the holiday season to kids... and there are likely a few parents out there who will see the $499 as reasonable given...

$100 is great, and it'll sell some more because of that and because of the fall lineup. However, I'll hold out another year until it hits $399. I'm just not coughing up $500 for a console, and that's the start. Don't forget you need another controller and some games. That's still a lot of bones.

Hello... PS3s are selling less than 100k per month. They're struggling to outsell the GAME BOY ADVANCE right now. You can quote numbers from last gen that show how it's keeping pace with PS2, but guess what, that was 7 years ago. New generation, A LOT more people playing games, bigger market place.

PS3 is not in desperation mode, but they are nowhere near a success story. And frankly, from what I've seen on these boards, there are a lot of folks waiting for a price drop to go g...

The price is too steep right now. The real issue is whether they can produce the games that make a difference in this generation. I've seen several posters indicate they want a PS3 for Blu-Ray. That's great... unless you decide to get a dedicated Blu-Ray player instead. I mean seriously, if the PS3 can't gain exclusives that are compelling, why not buy a 360 (which has compelling exclusives) and a dedicated Blu-Ray players? The Blu-Ray players are going to keep coming down in price, folks, be...

I believe that should say either with Halo 3 or as late as GTA IV, given GTA IV ships later than Halo 3.

The reason he's claiming 360 got the better version of Madden is because EA announced that NCAA 2008 and Madden 2008 would both run at 60fps on the 360, but only 30fps on the PS3.

2K also announced that All Pro Football 2k8 would run at 60fps on the 360 and only 30fps on the PS3.

Does that mean the 360 is getting the better game? Not necessarily. It does mean, however, that the 360 is getting a version that runs smoother than the PS3 version... and with football ...

I don't think MSFT is looking at Sony on the price tag. They know Sony is going to stay more expensive than they are for at least another year.

No, the whisperings out of MSFT have been related to Nintendo's price. Getting to $250, and getting there with some kind of casual games story, have been on the minds of the men in Redmond. Even Peter Moore has commented upon the $250 price tag the Wii is carrying.

They can all b&m about the Wii not being in the same ...

Ok, so MSFT's first party is probably the weakest of the three, but Halo only? C'mon. Gears, Project Gotham Racing, Crackdown, Forza... They're improving over what they had in the last generation. Frankly, if they want to buy exclusivity, that's their option. Sony can kick and scream and cry loyalty until they're blue in the face, but I'm still gonna pick up my 360 to play the games they bought on there. I'm still gonna play GTA IV on the 360, because of the extra content. Don't fool yourself...

If Sony thinks they can "earn" exclusivity, they're living in the past. This is a BUSINESS, Jack. It's not the video game industry you grew up in. This is about money, billions of dollars worth of money. If you don't want to pay for exclusivity, guess what? Someone else will.

And what that means is pretty simple: you lose.

Have you all noticed how sports franchises have been built over the past decade? Are they grown from the farm system on up? No, the...

Unfortunately it's already been announced that Metroid Prime 3 will not have a multiplayer component.

I don't think it matters whether KZ2 looks like the E3 2005 video. When it actually hits shelves, that's not going to be in the buying decision for most gamers. The buying decision will be based on whether the game is going to be "it" game for the PS3. There are examples throughout video game history of games that were hyped out the whazoo and wound up being major suck-fests. I think the graphics are going to be great. The question that remains is whether the gameplay will follow. ...

Now imagine that MSFT and Blizzard announced this. THAT would be something.

I agree with all your comments. I don't find the Wii the least bit attractive. And frankly, as successful as they are, they keep shooting themselves in the foot. No multiplayer for Metroid Prime 3? WTF?

I really want Sony to step it up. I need a price cut of $200 and 5 good games... so far only Resistance would be in that list. R&C, Uncharted are already known, KZ2 is likely to be great. But so much is going multiplatform and being kicked into 08 (Gran Turismo, FFXIII) that...

As much as I agree that EA just pumps out mediocre drivel half the time, they are NOT the only football game doing this. The All Pro Football 2k8 game from 2K sports is going to be locked at 60 fps on the 360 and 30 fps on the PS3.

Bash EA if you want, but the fact of the matter is, the extra year the 360 has on the PS3 means developers are more comfortable coding for it and can therefore stretch its limits more than they can on the PS3.

Let's not bring Team Nin...

All of the football franchises (EA's Madden and NCAA, and 2K's All Pro Football) are going to be locked at 60 fps on the 360 and 30 fps on the PS3.

Sweet spot for a PS3 will be $400. By then there will be a good mix of games out that I'll HAVE to play and a decent selection of Blu-Ray movies.

But for now I'll keep chainsawing my friends in Gears of War and not regret a thing.

The boards are full of nonsense. "360 is better" "No, PS3 is better."

What a bunch of little brats!

The point is IT's A GAME. It's meant for you to play, and have fun, either alone or with friends.

In the last gen I had a GC, Xbox and PS2. So far I have a 360, I'll be getting a Wii for my kids at Xmas (which I'm sure I'll also play), and I'll invest in a PS3 once the price goes down and at least 5 exclusive games come out that ...
