If you think little spats over mods and the price of maps would keep something like this from happening, you're nuts. Again, the big thing here is the Unreal Engine and how much revenue that brings in.

The major concern with this would be whether some of the big name guys, like CliffyB, would jump ship if it happened.

But let's face it, this is a business decision, which involves a TON OF MONEY. The Epic guys would stand to make major bucks on a takeover bid fro...

This would be a smart move by MSFT. And not just because of the games that Epic develops. The real prize here is the Unreal Engine. Imagine all those Sony developers who are currently licensing Unreal having to essentially pay MSFT for the engine for their game? Imagine an Unreal Engine optimized for the 360... imagine an Unreal Engine built exclusively for the next Xbox.

It actually makes sense for MSFT to get this in-house. It would be a MAJOR COUP.

The problem with it being GoldenEye is that MSFT doesn't own the license. Rare developed GE for Nintendo, and the Big N holds the license on that game, which is why it's being held up as an Xbox Live Arcade game.

Also, EA owns the rights to the Bond franchise, don't they?

I suppose all the little license checkmarks could have been signed off to allow MSFT to get an exclusive on this... but the question is, would it be worth it? I mean really, FPSs have come A LO...

Good Lord, so many flame wars, as usual. How about, if it has great games, then I'll get one? Isn't that the same with any console?

COD4 already has outsold Halo 3. It multi-platform. Take into account it's sales on both 360 and PS3, and it moved more units than Halo.

Halo 3 is only the second-best shooter out there. COD4 rocks.

Who ever targets "killing" the second best?

I thought in all that interviewing that Shane Kim did last week that he said he expected Fable 2 to be a huge holiday hit. I didn't think he was talking about Memorial Day (in the US).

I also suspect that Too Human will hit before Fable 2. I think GDC and E3 are going to be big for MSFT this year. I suspect that they're holding some cards up their sleeves... I think they have changed tunes a bit (as evidenced at last year's E3) and that they only want to talk about games that a...

In terms of new consoles, this is similar to remarks I made on another thread days ago. MSFT to go with new Xbox in either 2010 or 2011, depending on how quickly PS3 is catching up. Nintendo likely to go with a new one by 2010 if Wii sales slow based on "fad" sales.

I think the DS will be supported until 2010, but I suspect that Nintendo will release a new DS before then. Maybe this year?

As for the PSP, it's pretty much dead. Okay, God of War is finall...

I agree with this list. Halo 3 has basically fallen off my play list because of COD4, and while I don't want Halo 4 to mimic COD4, some sort of "just one more level, just one more challenge" would be a welcome addition.

The whole up-and-down on the levels of Halo 3 really sucks as well. I'd rather see progression, even if it's slow. That's another thing that COD4 has going for it; even if you lose, you get some XP.

Halo 2 hands down. Lots of marathon sessions of this. Diablo 2 is up there as well. I finished that a couple of times both in single player and multiplayer. FFX I spent more than 80 hours on.

But COD4 I'm already up to 100 hours and I can't imagine it not eclipsing 1000 hours by the time I get tired of it. Simply the best game ever.

Let's face it: there's not much worth watching on TV these days. As if real life doesn't suck enough, we also get Reality TV.

So more and more people worldwide are picking up a controller and playing games, escaping all this banal "reality" input.

Which means, of course, that fewer people are watching TV, which means fewer advertising dollars, etc. Which means TV needs to sensationalize things to get people to spend more time watching their nonsense. ...

So this is where the game truly begins, folks.

As others have said, MSFT isn't the only working on their next console. Undoubtedly both Nintendo and Sony are doing the same.

The difference is likely in the urgency with which they're working on those designs.

Let's start with where this artcile started: Microsoft. The 360 has been a guarded success. Yes, it's turned a profit. Yes, it was first to market and therefore captured (to this point) a siza...

There are undoubtedly a ton of games coming out for the 360 in 2008. But 1, many of them are multiplatform and 2, many of them are no-names.

Fable 2 and Splinter Cell are two that carry some franchise recognition and will garner a level of excitement. But that simply can't compare with the Halo 3 phenom from 2007.

Now, another one of these could become the next BioShock or Mass Effect and simply sweep everyone up in their greatness (maybe Too Human, for instance)...

There's a lot of crap on this list. Turning Point is one of them. I went through the list and counted 5 "probablys", 7 "maybes" and the rest as "no, I won't play them."

2008 is not going to rival 2007 in terms of X360 gameplay.

This will be the year that I get a PS3...

I'm frankly a little surprised to see Rein so surprised. Consoles have been outselling PC games for years (with the exception of WoW, of course). With COD4 and Halo 3 being THE shooters of the holiday season, it's no surprise that a ton of people are playing them, even those who would traditionally not have played console shooters.

Now, publishers aren't stupid. We've seen FPSs done successfully on consoles, and to resounding success. Recently the 360 has been home to the RTS g...

You're absolutely correct. There are 4 DSs in my house and I have no clue what an R4 is.

I was so excited for Halo 3. I played the demo, liked what I saw, etc. But when push comes to shove, you're right: same old gameplay as Halo 2. And frankly the maps weren't that interesting.

COD4 has simply taken over completely. While it's still an FPS, the "one more level" mentality of it really kicks in. It has that feel you had playing Diablo... one more room, just a little extra XP and I'll level up and get new loot.

Halo 3 is completely missing th...

If you know it's gonna suck. Obviously, they need to get some feedback, but if the demo was two months ago, and the code was in such horrible shape, then they should have held onto it or released the demo later in the coding process. All I've heard is how bad this is, being compared to Hour of Victory, which "won" many Worst Game of the Year awards for 2007. Not the kind of company you want to be in.

Ultimately, the demo seems to have done more harm than good. Even i...
