In the January Direct, Aounuma(sp) said that the team was re-evaluating the very core of Zelda gameplay for Zelda U.
I was watching IGN's Nintendo Video Chat, and they actually brought up an interesting point. What if this new, aLttP inspired game is the team's way of going back to the basics and evaluating what works?
They're already doing this with WW HD. I believe Aounuma said they decided to do it while they searched for the right visual style...
I remember back when I was a kid, my brother and I played through Ninja Gaiden on the NES. It was hard as hell, with us spending days on some of the levels. When we beat a level, though, it gave us both this rush of excitement. I play it on an emulator occasionally, and wonder how the hell we did it as kids.
I don't really get that feeling anymore. Very seldom do I have to really work to get a level done. I know that the industry is trying to expand right now to more peop...
It's way too early to even pose a question like that. If they're going to ask a question like that, at least wait until the game is completed and it's available to the public. Because without that, who are they asking? Obviously, we can't play the game at this point, and they've only played one level.
This is a trend I've noticed more and more this gen. A big game gets announced, and fans of that game or series make wild claims like "GOTY already&...
I'm so glad that they decided to take this approach instead of a straight up remake. After OoT, the next Zelda game needed to be original.
I'm okay with the art style, and the picture mechanic looks like a nice, basic feature that will add depth to the gameplay. They could have gone a lot more gimmicky than this.
I'm excited about this. Pokemon X/Y and Zelda is a pretty good one two punch for Nintendo this fall.
The support and Barracks scenes go so far towards making these characters seem... real, for lack of a better word. You find that these characters have distinct personalities, and most of them are endearing. It may seem like generic dialogue, but you really do get to know these characters over time.
I'm amazed at how much this adds to the gameplay, particularly classic mode. You grow to care about these characters, which leads to some very tense moments on the battlefield....
The 3DS is capable of solid online. Mario Kart 7, from my experience, has been pretty fluid in terms of finding races and such. I also like the smaller things they did with that game in terms of online. Keeping a constant stream of time trial ghosts coming into your game was a great idea.
Mario Kart 7 proved that the 3DS is capable of hosting online play. It's on 3rd parties to make use of it, but they don't seem to want to. There's only so much you can do if you&...
This game is awesome. The gameplay is as addicting as ever, and the game does so many of the little things right in addition to that. The relationship building system is amazing. You really do get to know these characters, and almost all of them are endearing. The support and Barracks scenes may seem simple, but it adds so much to the gameplay. I was surprised at the sense of panic I felt when one of my units was close to death.
In addition to that, the soundtrack is great, t...
Games I can't wait to see at E3
Pokemon X/Y
Watch Dogs
Monolith's X
3D Mario for Wii U
Tearaway
GTA V
As you can tell I'm not an FPS fan, but I'm sure Killzone and Battlefield will be good.
This app is a guilty pleasure of mine. I don't make notes myself, but I love getting notes from Nintendo. Yeah, they're pretty much advertisements, but the notes are pretty creative and there's a lot of cool little 3D effects.
I really hope this happens. I had my eye on this game for years, but I had no PS3 to play it on because mine broke earlier that year. If it can be done, I would fully support it.
If X is related to Xenoblade in any significant way, I'd be surprised if they didn't release it digitally. It'll never get another physical run for the WII, but if they decide to do an HD remake, I can see them physically releasing it for Wii U.
I got lucky and found a used copy at Gamestop for $45 around Christmas. 2 months later, the used price jumped to $60 and post $100 prices became the norm. I got very lucky.
Good numbers for 3DS and PS3. It's pretty neat to see the PS3 actually making gains with the PS4 looming. Sony repeatedly shows it's ability to give a system legs.
Good to see 3DS units still moving. Nintendo is simply not playing around with the 3DS. The first party software coming out this summer and fall is diverse and plentiful, and third parties are returning, too. Bit by bit, we're seeing DS franchises make their return. I'm very content with Nintendo...
I hope they Localize Layton vs. Ace Attorney. If not, I'll be more than content with AA5, but I truly believe that the audience is there for the crossover. Just recently got into the layton games(on Unwound Future right now), and the two games fit well together. I hope we see this in English eventually.
In regard to the diverting focus thing, that's a pretty plausible hunch. However, it's hard to guess what studios were working on near term Wii U games before hand.
The only one that comes to mind is that maybe EAD developing 3D Land got in the way of progress on 3D Mario and Zelda, but even if they trashed 3D land, I don't think either of them would have made launch or anywhere near it.
As for Intelligent Systems, who knows if they had anything q...
I think Nintendo's pretty safe in terms of market share in the portable market. The Vita would need a perfect storm to make any serious threat for first place. This is purely based off of how big the gap is at this point in time vs. some of the big stuff Nintendo hasn't released yet. So yeah, there is increased competition, but not enough for the 3DS not to do good. Plus, profit is still being made on every unit sold.
I seem to have trouble reading you. A couple of we...
Mario Golf and Mario Tennis for Wii. Why these never showed up I'll never know. I know we got the new play control port of Mario Tennis, but I wanted them to put effort into new games for these series. Overall it puzzles me because the Wii was proven to be good for those 2 sports.
Should you like Professor Layton, the next 2 games (Diabolical Box and Unwound Future), are available brand new on Walmart's website for about $26 combined.
Just thought I'd pass that along since you seem to like bargains. Just got them myself not too long ago.
Another thing I want to mention is the topic of Zelda. I'm going to give Aonuma the benefit of a doubt for now considering he just recently said that he's going to re-evaluate the very core of the OoT formula for Zelda U. I've always viewed Skyward Sword as the beginning of an incremental, fundamental change to the series. So I'm not making any calls in that regard just yet.
Didn't Miyamoto dramatically reduce his role in Mario/Zelda in order to head up a team of younger developers to work on smaller projects? I remember reading something about that when people thought he was going to retire.
Working with someone like him is a great way to ripen that "new, eager blood".
I kind of saw something like this coming. That's not to say I like it.
You could see them put a great deal of importance into their Nintendo Directs. It really did escalate over time. It went from largely focusing on updates for existing titles to world exclusive unveilings in every broadcast. I kind of wondered why they weren't saving this stuff for later. You don't make decisions like this overnight, so I think the two are related.
