Because shareholders aren't going to let them wait that long. They just had an investors meeting where they announced a pretty sharp drop in operating profit year over year. While Nintendo was still profitable, the drop was pretty significant. Most agree that Amiibo is the main thing keeping Nintendo in the black. However that's not going to last forever. They need to get NX out the door as soon as possible.

It can't JUST be a Mario game either. It has to be a true, next gen-looking stunner of a Mario game! It can't just be another left to right side scroller. It has to be a true successor to Mario 64 with amazing graphics or the next iteration of Mario Galaxy. A true 3d world Mario.
Common sense would tell me that if the NX is coming this year, development surely would have started earlier. However this is Nintendo we're talking about here. Logic sometimes goes completely out the window when it comes to trying to guess what they do.
I really don't understand Capcom's decision to omit him. He's as iconic with SF as Ryu, Ken, Chun Li, etc.

Second, yes it has a blu ray drive but so what? Blu ray drives are dirt cheap now and besides that, it doesn't even play blu ray movies so how is that even a plus?
Third, it's not just clock speed. It's also things like graphics capability, network capability, game library, etc. The bottom line is, value wise the Wii U is about a 200.00 console in 2016.

I own a Wii U. I also own a PS4. Cost is not an issue with me. I'm not talking about me personally. I'm talking about the price the Wii U needs to be at to appeal to the masses.

Not saying I disagree with you on Nintendo needing to cut the price of the WiiU. However you have to remember that even though the hardware in the console is outdated, a good chunk of the system's cost is tied up in that game pad. Thats why the system hasnt come down in price as low as everyone thinks it should.

Nintendo posted a 130+ million dollar profit so far for fiscal 2015 and I would say the vast majority of that was from Amiibo sales. The Wii U absolutely IS a liability for Nintendo. Otherwise they wouldn't be rushing to get NX out the door. Yes the attachment rate for game sales is really good but that doesn't change the fact that the userbase is incredibly small.
