15.1 - heres how:
Consumers don't want to buy multiple players. They want to buy *the right* player. Right now, "the right" player is simply a matter of opinion. Telling someone to buy both, or buy a combo player is easier said than done. Most people are not willing to pay $1k+ for a combo player or a combo setup. People shouldn't have to buy multiple players to resolve a single HD issue. Competition is great, but multiple formats slow down that competition. Once a format has...
those movies you are downloading look nowhere near as good as movies uncompressed in DVD-HD, or Blu-Ray. The same goes for why you can fit 9 telesync'd movies (vid cam in movie theater) on to a single dvd-9, but much fewer less compressed movies. Hence, why some dvd-9 films which are longer and of a higher visual/audio quality will still sometimes come on 2 dvds.
there is a difference between a standard, and a monopoly. VHS was a standard, *NOT* a monopoly. HD-DVD and BLU-RAY are both standards, and whichever wins will be the winning standard, not turn into a monopoly. Standards often protect consumers, whereas monopolies... well, you get me.
Although what you say about HD market penetration for televisions may be true now, what also needs to be considered is over 50% of all televisions sold this year WILL be HD, and that number wil...
wow man sounds like a way boss machine.
Not even like 1 day ago there were a buttload of articles about how the Xbox had lost its appeal/steam blah blah blah. Seriously people just have to have something to write about to generate ad revenue. Before e3, everyone in the media and industry were talking about what a joke it was this year. After e3, it was "SONY AND NINTENDO CLEAN UP AT BEST MOST AMAZING E3 EVAR!" Yes, I realize I'm exaggerating, it's just so frustrating to read this crap by analysts, then hear gamers regu...
I ditched my Nyko fan due to the problems people were reporting on the internet. This particular product looks better in every way, and I will be picking one of these up. I wish they were as easy to find as the Nyko offering. These are a bit scarce unless purchasing online.
all of this talk means next to nothing. No one disputes the power of the cell and everyone can dream/argue about its potential. People try to say that these sorta things drive hardware sales in a way, they do - but not the way that sony would like. All these programmers and engineers building "ps3 clusters" aren't buying RFOM to go with it. Hence, Sony takes a loss on the hardware and has no chance to recup on the software sales. The cell is great but people shouldn't take this...
Congrats on your purchase, now take 10 seconds to read the article.
I'm no Ps3 fanboy, in fact if anything I'm a bit of a hater but I do disagree with you saying you can't use it anywhere. It's still capable of playing ps2 games, and after the firmware update, it will even be upscaling them. That (to me anyway) is pretty impressive and I still love my ps2, so being able to play them upscaled is a great use to me. The games will come out, the ps3 hasn't been out that long and I thought the 360's lineup pretty much sucked until last thanksgiving or so.
I had a chance to sit down and play the beta for the first time this weekend. It could be that because I had a living room full of drunk friends with me and we were all taking turns that it was an absolute blast but I (for inexplicable reasons) found it to be so much more fun than most of my other Halo experiences. I was expecting basically xbox graphics so I was pleasantly surprised by the look of it. I also was very impressed with the weapon balancing. I agree with what the article said...
its not a challenge, its about its only big limitation. I don't care about value this or investment that. $600.00 is too much money for a gaming console. And I want to stress it's not that I cannot shell out that kind of money, it's that I cannot JUSTIFY spending that kind of money. I have a PC already, I've been streaming HD content to my television and I don't particularly need the BR. I'd just like to buy the console for the games and thats too much cash. With extra controller and gam...
I realize that this article is a bit sarcastic, however I personally feel that it was a little messed up of Microsoft to do this. It's my simple opinion that they weren't forthcoming about the halo 3 beta release date. I personally feel that although they didn't announce it was going to be available at the same time as the purchase of Crackdown, they didn't say it WASN'T going to be either. I personally believe this lack of clarification was because either A) I didn't do enough homework ab...
I'm really looking forward to this game and the possibility of team duels etc.
dirtysyko - I don't have any experience with the HD DVD add on, however I I do have a Mac Pro with 2 TB of storage and I've been streaming all the HD .wmv's I can get my grubby little hands on. I for one, think they look great. I have an oppo upscaling dvd player that upscales my standard def dvd's to 1080i, and there really is NO COMPARISON. Although my dvds look much better than they would on say a progressive scan 480p player with the oppo, the streamed HD .wmv's really surprised me. ...
Man I respect your opinion but I have to disagree. I played the hell out of all three when I was a kid and I'm very much looking forward to these, particularly missile command. Just out of curiosity, which games would you like to see come out for XBLA? Cheers!
I like a mixture of both - for example one could beat fable relatively quickly if you didn't want to mess around a whole lot. The last dragon quest was like that for me as well. Not sure if this makes sense exactly but I know what I'm trying to say dammit!
You obviously are not aware, but to answer the question "who is this guy?"
He co-founded this tiny little company called Square Co. LTD, now known as Square Enix. You may have heard of it. He later went on to father a few games you may also heard of called "Final Fantasy." Those games came out for a little console called the "Nintendo Entertainment System" and were popular on a planet you may have heard of called "Earth." Going back a...
I think we have a few people sitting a little too close to the fire.
I'm a little confused as how any who claims to be helping cure disease and global warming find it so easy to talk down to others as opposed to educating them on what they can be doing to help. If you care that much about the causes you are assisting, let us know what we can do to assist as you all seem so passionate. I sincerely hope that all those who are so proud of their f@h accomplishments are running it...
Per my last post...Am I reading their site wrong? Everything I'm reading here suggests this delay is for EUROPE.
royalties yes, but the consumer covers the cost of the movie house releasing on two formats, as they will continue to pass the increased cost along to us. As soon as a format has been chosen, *THEN* competition on the really cheap players will begin. I can certainly appreciate your desire to see competition drive down costs, but I don't believe that will really happen until a standard has been decided. Then again, the competition between the two now is doing just that hehehe.
