Paying for xbox live isn't a big deal. Just think if you have a cell phone how much you pay a year for that. Cell phones are a waste of money when compared to live. Live is much more fun :-)
Also, the little kids are the worst thing about live. Some parents really need to learn how to raise their children.
This whole discussion thread is pointless. People who own a PS3 are going to say it is the best choice for a blu-ray player. Fanboys of other consoles are going to say the PS3 isn't an option if you are buying a blu-ray player simply because it is a console that they don't like and/or own.
I like to think i am in another boat. I don't think people will buy a PS3 if they only want a blu-ray player. That would be like me buying my 360 because i want an upconverting dvd player and a ga...
I found it was the kind of game i wasn't sure about at first, but once you are out of the bathroom and onto the ship the game play is fantastic. An excellent and twisty story line too.
I was thinking the same thing. He is here to fix your plumbing and steal your children.
I personally like having a disc but then again i am not supporting blu-ray because it is too expensive right now. The problem with this type of article is that there are lots of PS3 supporters on this site so a conversation on digital downloads vs. blu-ray will be the same as the conversations about HD DVD vs. Blu-ray, both conversations are going no where in a hurry.
I totally agree that it will never equal, but if you are on a 40inch minus screen then is the improvement over upconverted worth buying a blu-ray player for? I don't think it will be for the average joe. Even the experts say blu-ray vs. upconverted on a 40- screen will be noticed only by videophiles.
If you pay $1000 for an HDTV that doesn't mean you are going to run out and pay another $400 for a blu-ray player. The average joe will pay less than $100 for a near HD experience with an up-converter rather than dish out for a blu-ray player. I find it hard to understand but the average joe doesn't care about the difference between up-converted and HD. Movie and home theater buffs will be the ones buying blu-ray players. Others will be getting one for free when they buy a PS3 for gaming....
The blu-ray group have obviously decided that they want DVD to continue selling well, because we all know the best way to get consumers to adopt something new is to raise the price of an already expensive product :-P
Peg has a good point about price, it is the number one deciding factor. I however don't agree with digital downloads taking over anytime soon. With these prices it is DVD all the way for the meanwhile. I would never buy a games console to play movies so i am looking at standalones and they are way to expensive. I wouldn't get a PS3 for blu-ray for the same reason i didn't get the 360 add-on for HD DVDs. I have to agree with whoever said it above, i don't think someone looking for a movie...
No blu-ray player for me for a while. That chaps my ass that they aren't going to issue chinese licenses and that they are going to try and keep the high prices of blu-ray around for a while. Right now the players are still way to expensive :-S
Very true. For some reason i still haven't gotten bored of halo 3 online (like most other games i own). Might have been because i had a mass effect break over christmas.
Here is a link about people not knowing it has a blu-ray player in it.

Here is a better one that also has xbox 360 stuff in it.

How can GTA be racist? You can equally kill and discriminated against everyone in the game :-P So if there is racism wouldn't that make the gamer a racist because they are choosing who they kill?
Thats pretty cool that they would do that for people that purchased a player just before Warner shot HD DVD down. Any chance that the components could be stripped out and used for something else?
Haven't you ever played in a game where everyone is lagging like nothing else? Fire the shotgun and it hits the wall a second or two later. Not me my friend, i have a speedy connection. If i ever host a game it is solid but you don't want to be the host all the time because the host advantage in gears is huge.
Gears has a better campaign, halo 3 has a better multiplayer online (Gears lag and host advantage bumped it below halo 3 IMO).
That was funny and so true.
Isn't blockbuster going out of business? I remember reading it on here a while ago. Has anyone had one close in their town yet?
No one really cares. We buy the console and games we like and have a good time playing them. After all we are all the same, we are gamers!
For Clarification: the cell phone was just an example. People in general complain about little charges for things when they waste lots of money on other aspects of their life. That is what i was trying to get at. $50 odd a year for a service like xbox live is good by me. If it was free and not as good that would suck.
