To be fair, the older survival-horror games benefited greatly from technical limitations. Fixed camera angles created that tension modern titles can't compete with. But this shouldn't be the case.
Dead Space's camera was free most of the time, and yet it was a great, modern survival-horror game. The article was spot on when he mentioned vulnerability as one key factor to eliciting fear.
In RE6, vulnerability is hardly present. You can round house ...
I thought the game (in the demo) was ok, only not a DmC game. UE3's graphics engine is also showing its age. The colors are varied but the presentation isn't very easy to the eyes. Some surfaces also blur when you move the camera.
About the combat, not having a lock on system is not good in a DmC game. Well, at least now I know I'm not getting this game. Ni No Kuni is still my game of January 2013!!!
Dead Space 2's MP was also quite tacked on for me. I thought playing as humans was bias and overpowered.
I'm pretty sure many of us here understand your angle on the 'swimming' topic. And I'm pretty sure most of us are a bit put off, not by Lara not being able to swim (because she can, as stated in the article), but because there is no water segment in the game where Lara could use her swimming skills.
Knowing that Lara is in an island where there's water everywhere makes it a dumb perspective for CD not to include water levels. Imagine secret coves and loca...
Yeah, The Last of Us wowed me when they released that trailer in which Joel wrapped his arm with bandage to heal himself. I wonder why health regen is in this game when CD gave the impression that this TR reboot is all about survival and all that.
I thought this was the Dark Knight of video games which will give us something dark and serious. Health regen and no swimming sections (A TR staple) don't really make up for a TDKR experience, if you ask me.
I'll be supporting this game no matter what. I think part of the blame here is the saturation of FPS games and the newer generation of gamers who got immersed in such a genre when this gen's consoles came along.
They could pull off a strong woman character ala The Boss of MGS3, or Kill Bill's Black Mamba. Actually, when I first saw the headline for GTA 5 being it having 3 characters, I thought there would be a female character - I thought the policewoman in one of the images would be her.
Anyway, I don't think Rockstar would do this anytime soon. Maybe in the expansion or DLC they could give way to a woman character. As a man, I don't feel any less of a man when playing a...
Playstation Orbis sounds like a well-rounded console basing off of the word 'orbis' itself. The new name, if they're going to call it Orbis, also gives off that 'solid' ring to it. I'm going to buy Orbis at launch!
Me gusta!
One thing's for sure, since this probably would be one of the arts in the GTA5 boxart, this girl won't be in the game at all. We all know Rockstar loves putting a woman in the cover art of the game but she's nowhere to be found in the game. :D
But come to think of it, had they not done that, we wouldn't have a PS3 now. Still, that act by Nintendo was atrocious at best.
Capcom needs a more serious survival-horror title. It doesn't have to feature zombie; it could be something entirely different. RE and the virus thing are getting a little stale.
Give us something new next gen, Capcom.
Well, this game is of its own, and we, the JRPG fans, have been all so eager for something like this. Wishing NNK to be more like Skyrim or Dark Souls just to appeal to that particular audience is out of the question. If you want Skyrim or Dark Souls you're free to play them.
As a JRPG fan, I'm so delighted that this game gets a 10 ouf 10 from RPGLand. I will get this game no matter what just to show how I love what Level-5 is doing. That is braving the gaming scene w...
Honestly, Overstrike was more appealing even if it was intended as a multiplatform title for Insomniac. Now, this game in the guise of Fuse, I am no longer as interested.
It's just too serious for my taste. Had they not shown Overstrike first, my perception now could be different.
JRPGs are needed this generation, so when the next generation comes in, new gamers in the form of adolescents will get to love JRPGs once again, similar to the PS1-PS2 era. I guess the reason why FPS fluorished this gen is because of the new gamers being exposed primarily to FPS games.
We need a JRPG Renaissance and the time is now!
Good thing there's a patch available. Though I have the PS3 copy, I believe it will come our way soon. I can give this game another whirl!
I love you, ND! The best thing here is the possibility of getting tickets from Treasure Drops. This is something I thought of one day after I got a taste of the Tournament Tickets post 1.13 patch. It's as if ND read my mind!!!
Go, ND!!!
The reason why Namco opt for a PS3-only release in Japan (and the rest of the world for the main series) is because the devs, and Sir Baba-san, know that the Tales series is mostly famous in Japan. And Japan embraces the PS3 more than, say, the Xbox 360.
They know that releasing the game in 3 consoles would hurt their marketing and budget more than just sticking to one console. That and the fact that Tales has been synonymous with the Sony console.
I never felt bored by repeating levels because I died as opposed to what the article implies. Death in Dark Souls is something integral to the game and never cheap. When you die in Dark Souls, either you messed up, or you became too complacent and over-confident.
Now I never played La-Mulana, but it looks like a fun game.
Sorry, Lightning, but you won't get my money. FFvs13 is what we like to hear more about; just please, after this game, take a looooong break please.
