While I'm not against them switching from classic turn based combat to action, I believe the main thing the series needed was a better story and music. The games were beginning to feel overly simplistic and samey. Very interested to see how XII turns out.
@ManMarmalade You think they will release two huge Final Fantasy games the same year? (Referring to FFXVI). I mean...I suppose it's possible that XVI could drop late this year but that seems like a bit of a stretch.
For me 6 and 9 are interchangable with each other depending on my mood. But I do relatively enjoy both games more than I do 7.
@Abriael
"Sony has great JRPG IPs from its past and fans have been literally begging them to bring them back, and what do they do? They shoehorn them into low-profile mobile games instead of giving them a good budget and making some great PlayStation exclusives."
I STILL hold out hope at every major event that one day Sony will decide to give us a new Legend of Dragoon or Wild arms... breaks my heart.
XII was one of the greats. But I'm am hyped for XVI as well.
I have faith in Yoshi P.
Im gonna go out on a limb a say it drops before the end of 2021.
The game does feel somewhat familiar, like a funky cross somewhere between Mass Effect and Gears. But I'm actually pretty ok with that, and from what I played in the demo it was enjoyable. I'll be picking it up for my PS5.
We need more JRPGs. Wild Arms, Legend of Dragoon and Arc the Lad.
This is an interesting idea specifically relating to the Demon's Souls franchise (since Sony hasn't done anything with it anyway). Although Bluepoint might be more than capable from a technical standpoint I believe it wouldn't be the same experience without Miyazaki and his ideas.
It kind of sounds like you either don't know what a racist 'caricature' is or don't believe that they exist.
And that's fine I'm not going to argue with you about it.
Just wanted to point out that having tribal characters in the game wasn't the issue.
Pretty sure they aren't upset because it depicts tribal people but rather because the designs look similar to caricatures of the offensive way blacks were once depicted in popular media. Meaning jet black skin and large red lips (remember Mr Popo from Dragon Ball Z?).
Whether or not you find those caricatures offensive is another story.
Um..I actually rather like the design. It would just be nice if it came in different colors because that white finish is probably gonna get dirty.
Bloodborne II
Wild Arms (Reboot)
Legend of Dragoon II
WarHawk (Reboot)
Killzone 5
These games (especially a new Wild Arms or Legend of Dragoon) would cause me to buy a PS5 on the spot.
The last 10 hours or so with the game were like this for me. I pushed myself to complete it mainly because I knew the ending was divisive (I never would have guessed how though beforehand) and I wanted to experience it for myself. I guess if I had to describe my experience with FF7R in one word it would be... 'inconsistent'? FF7R is 'solid', there are definitely some moments where it really shines and there are others where the pacing comes to a crawl and you begin to notice ...
I often wonder if I live in some kind of alternate reality the way people heap nothing but praise on FF7R and all criticisms are instantly dismissed. Combat system is fun but flawed, level design is bland and uninspired, the amount of padding ruins the pacing and the ending is... a mess. The game is solid but 9's and 10's? This game would be a 7 if it were anything other than Final Fantasy 7. And I'm saying this as someone that was looking forward to this game more than anything e...
The game is about a 7/10 for me as well:
The overall pacing wasn't the greatest in some of the chapters.
The majority of the side quest felt uninspired and pointless often feeling like busy work/padding. Even the way you get summons felt like an after thought.
Level design is especially bland. So many areas feel like they are designed just to artificially slow the game down.
Combat has a good foundation (fun at ti...
Having a simplified Gambit system a la FFXII would be amazing, as it stands now characters won't even heal themselves which is just stupid. Also I completely agree about dodging. Personally I think they should completely axe the dodge mechanic in favor of giving each character one or two unique actions that players should be about to equip depending on their play style. For example: giving Tifa a quick step type ability so that she can reposition around enemies, or Coud a parry/counter th...
On paper I really like the combat in FF7R. But IMO it needs to feel more tactical. Things like allowing players to string together multiple commands together via the ATB gague (thinking back to FF13), or the ability to do team skill chains would make it awesome.
Also the AI is just horrible, it would be nice to have some basic control (that other action RPGs have) over your party members that aren't being actively controlled.
Looking forward to this game.
