I could say the same about the other Sony games on that list going to the Xbox, too.
Yeah, Suikoden ain't going anywhere, I don't think. The games take so much from their predecessors, storyline and setting-wise, that I doubt it'll change platform.
And, hey, the PS3 is only a couple of hundred more than the 360.
Just look at the PS2. It's still selling at a frightening pace, even with the PS3 out. The reasoning behind the PS3's 10 year life comes from that.
Good post, a bubble for thee.
People are poo-pooing the PS3's performance for this year, and I believe that it's folly to do so. There is little doubt that the 360 will sell better than the PS3 this Christmas, but it'll still sell very well. Sony's estimate of 11 million doesn't seem too far off, although it will be lower.
The 360 doesn't have the foothold in Europe everyone seems to think it has. I should know, I live here.
Europe was never a really large Xbox territory to begin with. It sells fine in the U.K and Ireland, but in the actual continental Europe, the Wii and PS3 are what's garnering attention. And this is before the Winter line-up.
They also gave Resident Evil 4: Wii Edition a 7/10, whereas other sites were giving it 9/10, and 10/10. Eurogamer constantly pour out negative reviews, so I'd certainly take anything they have to say with several grains of salt. They are hardly a reliable reviewer.
Folklore is set to be quite the title when it's released. You'd be hard-pressed to find a reviewer, besides EG, that thinks otherwise.
Japan is the second-largest market, actually. Hardly small. Coupled with how many of the important developers are Japanese, it's very important that a console gains a foothold there.
And thank you for your opinion on JRPGs. Go shoot something.
Other than the incorrect assessment of Oblivion, he's got a point, of course. Japanese games put a much greater of emphasis on story than most western developers.
@RadientFlux: You obviously haven't played any of the Suikoden games, as well as many other quality story-based Japanese games. WRPGs are as confined by cliches as any JRPGs, such as the inclusion of elves and dwarves in many titles.
I wonder how this would work in other countries. I don't know if it's the case in the U.S., but it's illegal to advertise cigarettes in the European Union, and there are strict regulations over the advertisement of alcohol. I wonder how SCEE will address this.
..."What does Nintendo know about gaming," you ask? They've been making games since the 1980's, I'd imagine they know quite a bit about gaming. As the current time, online gaming is still fairly niche, but the features in the present hardware are making it more inviting for people to try it. The Wii has online support. It may not be as great as Microsoft's and Sony's offering, but they aren't ignoring it.
The Wii is really a second console to many people, that's no do...
...And so many other things, CNIVEK. The breadth of features on the PS3 can't really be contested. It's a true media hub.
"Lack of Professionalism?"
Have you seen any of Microsoft's comments? Sony had the grace not to mention the 360's name, Microsoft does no such thing for the PS3, openly bashing it at every opportunity.
I don't know where all this false information about HD-DVD doing well in Europe came from, but, I can tell you, as an EU citizen, that HD-DVD has no such foothold in the European Union. There is but one company that sell HD-DVDs in Ireland, and they have a much larger Blu-Ray selection. The only country where there is any question of Blu-Ray superiority is the U.S., and it's gaining ground with every day.
I do agree with one thing you said, however, and that is that the U.S. is...
...but most of them are.
It's that most of the MAJOR titles have been either FPS or TPS games. The great title this year is Halo 3, and last year was Gears of War. Most of the must-have AAA titles for the 360 are of the shooter variety, and that is why the stigma thrives.
The main reason that there isn't much hype for Haze and UT3 is because they're PS3 exclusives this year, and, as seems common, PS3 games aren't allowed to be hyped. Especially if the hype were to excel a 360 game's.
Many would have played Halo 3, as part of the Halo 3 Beta.
Digital Distribution would be advancing further if it wasn't for the size of high definition media. In 1080p, 2-3 minute videos can be over 250MB. To download entire films is out of the question for many, many people at the moment. Maybe it'll be different by the time Blu-Ray has had it's time, but, as of yet, digital distribution will continue to be a niche service.
These ratings are so old. Even though the linked article is new, GamePro made these well before E3. Sony has done quite a bit since then.
