God of War Ragnarok has broken franchise sales records in the UK this week. It did this precisely because it is available on the PS4 which is so important because the PS5 has been supply constrained. A side benefit is that many PS4 owners who only buy one console per generation will be more likely to upgrade to a PS5 than Xbox Series X.

I remember when I first played Batman: Arkham Asylum and I was in some tunnel or roof or something, and Batman was talking and it was incredible because he WAS Batman, Kevin Conroy's voice was able to convey the depths of the character. The game made you feel like you were living a Batman adventure. Rest in Peace.

Game Pass subs are proving popular with enthusiasts gamers (according to Microsoft) but Game Pass cannot hit its sub targets unless it attracts subscribers from the mainstream. Maybe in decade cloud gaming will be more widespread, but right now Game Pass is a product for gamers.

Woah. Because of world circumstances I knew prices would be up and thought for sure it would be £499 in the UK but £529.99 is over that psychological half a grand mark.
Now what I want to see from Sony to make it a day one purchase is to know that the whole platform has had an upgrade from PSVR1 VR experiences and has some triple A games, or maybe even just one like Half-Life Alyx

The noise and the format of video games adverts make some people switch off immediately in the same way I switch off when I see something about most sports. This type of ad can make a wider audience take notice and get them involved in the discussion.

The PlayStation platform's success or failure is not determined by the success or failure of its optional subscription service because that, whilst an important source of revenue, is not the core source of revenue. I like that Sony is being explicit in the numbers drop. Too early to infer everything but we can speculate; after the relaunch hype perhaps the new service is not compelling to PlayStation users because of the content. Alternatively, it may be that however strong the content, subscription services will not replace the game-purchase model that has dominated the industry since its inception, particularly when there is demand for specific new games.
