This is the EXACT reason why you cant compare GamePass with Netflix. Netflix doesn't have to worry about brick & mortar retailers selling their hardware.
And while I doubt other big retailers follow suit, if they did, it would cause trouble for Xbox.
And the reason is because the Xbox hardware is the way the majority of Microsoft's gaming customers get access to their ecosystem. Without the hardware Microsoft can sell no Xbox Live Gold sub...

For 2018 on the PS4 side, I'm looking forward to MLB, Days Gone, Yakuza 6, Detroit, Spider-Man, God of War, Dreams & Shadow of the Colossus...
Wait...Am I missing something?
Aren't 100% of all future Microsoft's published AAAs gonna be Play-Anywhere???
If that's the case, then you don't even need an Xbox to play Xbox's 2018 AAA exclusive line-up for $10
@Godmars290 - "Until either an update or announcement of the PS5." -- Exactly...This is not as big as it used to be back in the PS2 days. Sony will just release a mandatory update.
And then you either update
OR
miss out on any patch fixes to games, online portion of games, and anything PS+ related
@Cyborgg
I actually deleted that part of my comment b/c I've already proven my point. And the reason why @Obscure_Observer can't show any proof of Microsoft owning Playground Games (in full or in part) is b/c Microsoft does NOT own Playground Games in any shape, form or fashion. The very FIRST sentence on Playground's own website ( http://www.playground-games... ) says: "Playground Games is an...
@Obscure_Observer - "To think that Microsoft doesn´t have a lock of any kind by contract over Playground Games which prevents them from to become a Sony exclusive/first party studio overnight is crazy!"
1) Who said anything about PlayGround working with Sony??? I never said that, so as far as I'm concerned, you just made that up!
2) Just because the 3 games PlayGround Games has made are Microsoft exclusive does NOT mean Microsoft owns ...
@Obscure_Observer
You do know the website you linked can be edited by the community, right?
But putting that to the side, if you can show where Microsoft owns PlayGround Games (in full, or in part), I will gladly retract & apologize. Or if you can show where Microsoft has some type of long term contract whereby PlayGround Games can only make games for Microsoft (indefinitely or to a certain date in the future), I will also retract & apologize.
...
I don't believe Microsoft owns Playground games & there is no such thing as a 2nd party development studio. Either Microsoft owns PlayGround or Playground is and independent/3rd party studio.
What appears to have happened is that Microsoft contracted Playground (a 3rd party development studio) to make a new game for them...(the same type of thing Sony did with Insomniac for Spider-Man). If you can link any info showing Microsoft's acquisition of Playground, I&...
I dunno, PS4's 2017 is pretty tough to beat. But if PS4's 2018 is better (or atleast in the same ballpark) then I'm gonna need to get a 2nd mortgage on my house!!!
Have fun with the waiting & uncertainty
Yeah...I'm DAY 1 on this for sure...And I love that Insomniac is re-confirming this game for 2018...CAN'T WAIT!!!
(I'm surprised at how many people have uncertainty in Insomniac's ability to make a fun game, with. a great traversal system, when a lot of those same people praised Insomniac for those exact same things back in 2014...what changed?!?)
If true (which I tend to disagree)...that just makes what Sony & Bethesda, as well as other developers, so IMPRESSIVE!!!
Bringing Single-Player only/Single-Player focused games even when other developers/publishers shy away.
HATS OFF!!!
@medman - "I'm looking forward to all Sony's exclusives, but the bottom line is until they get definitive release dates, any of these games could slip to 2019 either because they need more polish or because the schedule of games is cluttered, particularly in the fall."
Any thing "could" happen...But Insomniac has a strong track record of coming out on time. So when an Insomniac dev says 2018, the good money is on 2018...But, they could all go on...
Thats what I love to see...Confirmation on 2 of Sony's BIGGEST 2018 AAA games. I know there were some people who genuinely were wondering, so I'm glad it got settled.
But some of the people pushing the non-sense about these 2 games being delayed were just trying to drum up Fear, Uncertainty & Doubt...And I'm glad those particular people can be silenced.
@DeadSilence - "Journalist should be banned and sentence to jail for false information about workplace, should receive serious penalties for trying to disrupt work flow within the company."
Living in America, that sounds HORRIBLE. You cannot prosecute journalists for false information...unless you can prove they knew it was false before they published that info. Otherwise, the government would just stop articles they don't like.
But I do a...
@Kribwalker - "...so why not buy one of the most popular games out there and add it to your stable. They are one of the richest companies out there so they can afford to do both"
Just because Microsoft is one of the richest companies out there doesn't mean they are willing to lose money. And the price that it would cost them to acquire the game/studio will all but assuredly be substantial. And I have yet seen anybody show how Microsoft would make back that s...
I'm going to have to agree with @Death on this one. Working for a HORRIBLE company doesn't mean that you made a "poor life choice". A "poor life choice" is like deciding to smoke crack. What she did may have been an unwise decision, but its not a poor life choice
Thats cool. However, I don't think your lack of physical purchases would have changed the yearly order.
@gangsta_red - "Not entirely true, Netflix can still be dropped by a company that makes hardware or provides media services like a Firestick or Chromecast."
It is entirely true...A hardware manufacturer can drop Netflix but there is nothing a retailer can do. And for the purposes of comparing GamePass & Netflix, as some people have, Netflix never has to worry about retailers. Whereas, Xbox does have to worry about retailers to move hardware.
