Shame, Mirrors Edge was like a diamond in the rough. I thought Mirrors Edge 2 would be the diamond we were hoping for.
Well the one thing about banning is the amusement we'll all get from people who try to tell Sony otherwise. When Bungie started banning people from Halo Reach for cheating the garbage they would give to MS & Bungie was hilarious.
$15 p/month will definitely limit the audience it will attract on PS3 especially as there will no doubt be enough good full price games to play or buy in the coming months e.g. Mass Effect 2 being just one.
I hope DCUO does well as it is a very attractive license and potentially a great concept. I'll spend some more time with the Beta before making a final decision but as of right now not subscribing.
The Demo was promising, here's hoping the final game is just as good.
A game like GT5 with all the hype may disappoint in the early stages, but I'm sure once we spend some time with it our disappointment will subside as the appreciation for how good it really it takes over.
That or we just stay disappointed with it.
It looks like GT5 is shaping up to be a great game just not a masterpiece.
After everyone has played it for a while a truer judgement will come to pass.
....it is not really 1000 unique cars (thought they never said unique either) in reality probably 500-600 unique cars with 400 variations.
Still not bad. Quite frankly I would much rather have a good game with less cars than loadsa cars and a half baked experience.
For me GT5 needs to bring some intelligent AI to the party and I'm sold, that means not having the AI cars follow the racing line no matter the circumstances.
DA:O was excellent but the combat system needs a renovation. The old click on enemy run up to him and auto-hack n slash is tired.
It's looks like combo attacks may take place which would be refreshing.
That being said as long as it doesn't go Dynasty Warriors style it should be fine.
You do point out some good games but....
GT5 is hardly a Japanese game certainly not in spirit of the article. It is a game that is designed to be globally appealing and reaches its' intended audience. MGS has always been designed with western influence in mind (Kojima has said that many times - Snake Pliskin being the starting point). VC & DS yes totally awesome games but VC has lukewarm sales (I loved it).
But still if you compare against Western g...
..with all due respect - The Japanese are very nationalistic. I've worked in Japan before. Not all of the country are like this but enough to notice - example: going to a presentation with an Apple Mac or a Dell PC and being asked to return when you use a Japanese brand laptop. No joke this kinda stuff happens.
Sony & Nintendo make hardware for a global market but this nationalistic attitude is a primary reason why the Japanese games industry are struggling to sell o...
Looks very impressive, now all we have to see is the quality of driver AI - if that holds up to scrutiny I think we're looking at THE ultimate driving simulator.
ahem....one moment please.....drinks water........clears throat......inhales deeply.........TOSSER!!!!!
PS Move in the dark = great experiences with games like Dead Space Extraction, Dead Space 2, Red Faction Armageddon just to name a few.
I like your bold statement on PS3 games being the best in certain genres however....
Sony have the best:
Action/Adventure - Uncharted 2 AGREED
Hack and Slash - God of War 3 POSSIBLY (GOW3 felt a victim to modern conventions of gaming compared to GOW2/1)
RPG - Demon's Souls - DS is a RPG amongst RPG's but it's difficulty level makes it inaccessible to alot of people. Fallout 3 may be a better choice for accessibility.

Seems alot of people believe paying alot of money for PC's just to be able to play old games in HD is cool. Good look finding a US$500 kit that can play cutting edge games out of the box, unless it's a big old desktop.
Graphics are ALWAYS secondary to good gameplay hence the reason why Tetris has survived time and time again.
If you can have both great.
GT5's publicity campaign has been mismanaged badly that's the biggest pro...
....PlayStation Pain. YES I KNOW IT'S A DIFFERENT PLATFORM BUT......
...imagine having to launch yourself at the screen to play the game. It would make for the best videos to share seeing people flying into walls, cabinets and through windows.
...if hardware isn't hacked within the first 12 months like 360, Wii and iPhone then it shows a certain level of resilience.
Hacking the PS3 and pirating Blu-Ray is probably a highly uneconomic exercise too.
...there is a niggling concern related to ongoing long delays and rescheduled release dates.
The core offering is always good and I expect it the core experience to work well BUT after all this time AI should be the best it has ever been, car damage should affect your in-race performance and online NEEDS to be reworked so it is a driving/racing game rather than a stock car game.
Nail this and you're first place, don't and it'll be the racing equi...
PES has fallen from grace. Too many faults such as unacceptable online play and shortage of features have seen it slip down the pecking order.
FIFA now rules the roost with 10v10 online, virtual pro and detailed manager modes to name a few.
That being said, if PES2011 could get things right again, I'd be very interested.
The "watering it down for consoles" argument is neither here nor there.
Console gaming is far more lucrative hence why a company would want to produce a game to be console friendly.
