You do realize it's pretty much impossible to accurately track units sold to consumers, right?
Considering many devs sacrifice a lot to a) bring you all titles you love and b) do something we love, I find your attitude disappointing.
So what happens when the PS3 outsells the 360 or "catches up to it" or whatever? Still curious about that. The people who whine about sales will STILL find a reason to whine, so big whoop.
I make enough to live comfortably. But most games out there in the industry do NOT break even sadly. =(
Even if they are prerendered, they are done via the game engine and to mask loading. Considering moments like Gaia flailing as you battle the Hippocampus and ripping off Cronos's nail are IN GAME as you play... well.... the game is a beast.
His Netcode 2.0 complaint is entirely valid. it's currently junk. The rest won't happen, but are valid concerns. If you start singling out the GLauncher's though, then you need to bring up EVERY balancing issue (oh hai thar commando!)
"Alan Wake still has larger scope to texture then Uc2,quite larger,GOW III has advantage of fixed camera"
Where is this argument even coming from? Why is UC2 being brought in now? Where is proof of this scope? Have we seen the full town in daylight yet and how textures hold up (which I'm sure will be fine thanks to good mipping and a quality art team)? I'd love to see shots, I'm really interested from a design POV. Most of the levels I've seen are in cover of darkness, ...
LOD models are used in almost EVERY game these days, not just open world FYI. Same with mipmapping. Again, I don't know why people are bashing Remedy for using the tricks of the trade?
Again though, color palette has nothing to do with it. The walls in KZ2 could be bright red and it would still be just as intensive as it was if they were green.
Still, I don't know why people are bashing Alan Wake for using the same tricks every other game does? It's not like other titles will look worse, or Alan Wake is any less impressive. I'm glad developers tailor their titles to meet the hardware they are working on. You WANT devs to use tricks to get the most out of these ...
While I don't agree with the Wake bashing Shaman, as the game looks great (and EVERY title uses tricks to some degree)... I don't understand two points in your argument. Use of shaders, and use of a limited color palette. Use of a limited color palette is a design choice and hardly limited by hardware. Shaders are just as intensive, if not more so, than textures.
Is splitscreen confirmed yet?
I miss the days where you actually had to AIM to take down you opponents, none of this aim assist/two shots they drop BS.
Because it's totally adult to make a "news article" whining about the whiners.
GG.
FYI, 90% of the time, the developer/designer is going to do what THEY want anyways. The vocal minority is just that, a minority. N4G is but a hair on the pimple on the ass of the fanbase of the game industry for instance.
Probably fake.
But it'll still happen. By summer 2011. Guaranteed.
"Edit: I read his article and you should too. It talks about the crazy things fans complain about that normal people wouldn't care about."
I read it. It's hardly news, it's flamebait, per usual. It focuses on a vocal minority which is amplified by the web, then basically flames them. While I may not agree with the vocal minority all the time, just as often they DO have a point. It's also ironic because this guy has basically made a career out of "I'm right, you're ...
Jim Sterling and Chris Buffa are the most blatant hypocrites I have EVER had the displeasure of reading. Their articles are trash and incite the very BS they are now condemning.
Pot. Kettle. Fools.
"Criticism is fine, of course, but the sheer hatred and bile that spews from self-professed fans takes it too far."
Hypocrite.
Why does some random guy's opinion matter to you all?
Why does some random guy's arbitrary score slapping on his opinion matter as well?
I totally disagree Thoreau. Now people camp. The level traversal is pretty much dead. Headshots for the sniper are meaningless. I'm sick of the MW2 type of gameplay that boils down to whoever sees the other first wins, I much prefer the "bullet sponge" where you actually have to AIM and EARN your kill.
I think this health should be an option, not the norm.
Glad you are able to count all 500 million of those polys in each shot. Impressive.
"It is gameplay but the visuals have been pre-rendered"
This is a contradiction almost by definition and not possible unless you are talking about texture sets/normals or pre-rendered backgrounds, which GoW clearly is not.
