It's funny when people argue against the whole "bias conspiracy" issue... it's not some X-Files level super secret stuff... it's just business. Business that many people don't know the full workings of, and business that DOES influence the "news" we get.
Thanks for posting!
"And regardless of the answer, should each of you not know more about journalistic integrity, impartiality and ethics? "
Impartiality doesn't exist in game reviews, regardless of the writing talent of the reviewer. Nor should we expect it to be, as "fun" is heavily subjective. But the inconsistency in the review system is apparent in EVERY major media outlet, and should be questioned at every turn. This is NOT the same, however, as bashing someone for his or h...
Mainstream. Gamespot. IGN. 1up. Edge. All of them. To assume any are unbiased, when humans are naturally biased and opinionated creatures, is just silly. I also think the review score system should be abolished in favor of something that better reflects the changing game industry at hand. Putting a number on fun is just silly, stupid stuff.
I agree with your statement on DLC. While it is a smart business move for the console manufacturer who secures it, it really IS a disservice to the consumer from a game developer -> gamer standpoint. There are plenty of gamers on all 3 systems, and denying the fanbase of the game itself is just silly, especially when there is the potential for MORE sales on multiple platforms.
What disappointed me the most in 2008 was that companies took chances on new IPs like Mirror's Edge and Dead Space, yet they were not rewarded with sales when compared to big name sequels.
I also think the gaming media sank further into pathetic mediocrity, showing tons of bias, poor writing, and a lack of ethics.
Personally, I feel the PS3 at $400 is a good deal, IF you don't have a 360. But that $300 price point would really, really help adoption, even for multicon...
I found a copy of Omega Boost at Gamestop last year for 33 cents. The game is like a badass mix between ZOE and StarFox, and I for one would LOVE to see another. And while they are at it, revive Colony Wars!
While people are entitled to their opinions, I find it rather silly that one of the complaints about LBP is that "it takes time to make a good level."
Gee, ya think? We live in an age of instant gratification, where trial and error have been eschewed in favor of handing you the last boss on a silver platter. Of course a well made level is going to take TIME. Is that for everyone? No, but I'm amazed at both the quality and ingenuity of LBP and its user created content. I...
I have to agree. Room for both, and I feel both are necessary. What should matter above all else is content and quality. For example - Namco Bandai. Bad, bad bad. Their stunts with DLC for Soul Calibur IV and Ace Combat 6 are just... well, laughable in both content and pricing I feel. Give your consumers some credit, and they'll appreciate you more, such as with Criterion or Bungie.
Make what your good at, do it well, but CONSIDER the audiences, that's all. Don't attempt to pande...
Hmmmm.... that's not good. People should still be allowed privacy in the digital age. I don't care if its text messages or emails, if it's not intended for your eyes, you shouldn't even know it exists, let alone be able to read it at your leisure, not matter your position in the government.
I've already heard plenty of horror stories about the CIA listening in on personal calls... sadly it's almost impossible to make the government accountable for their bullsh!t.
Apparently, according to mods, this constitutes "news," just like RROD articles. It's a bit silly, yes. But a whole lot more sad.
Will they maybe have some news for GAMERS tomorrow? Or is that a useless hope?
I picked up plenty of PC titles, such as Bioshock, since they crush their console cousins technically. When you can use 360 or PS3 controllers and have a kickass vid card, coupled with an HDtv or a large monitor, it's somewhat silly not to.
Be it PS3 or 360 FUD, you have to admit, N4G sure does love to dress up useless blogs as "news."
So at N4G, it's okay to take the same source article, say the Wall Street Journal, and then have another site give their opinion on it. Then that qualifies as "new" news? That's interesting.
I don't understand the animosity between Ps3 and 360 owners. It's rather, well, pathetic to be quite honest. Both are great systems with great games, what's the issue? Are people that petty, jealous, and insecure there days?
Can anyone tell me how much the SNES and Gene...
Man, Uncharted was amazing. All I could ask for is a more stable framerate. Co-Op would be nice, but not necessary for me to enjoy the title. Nathan Drake was such a likable character, and I'm glad his voice actor is returning. This is easily going to be a great, great title.
Ah Valkyria, a great little gem of a title. It's unfortunate that people argue about a lack of unique games in the industry, then don't support games such as Valkyria... but buy crappy titles with big names attached in droves.
I'm curious to see how this title finally turns out, it's been a while since we've been updated on it. The voice acting and plot, the atmosphere are really going to make or break it I feel. I hope it's not just Silent Hill sans monsters. 2009 really is going to be another great year for games!
I just don't see a reason to upgrade to anything above XP for my personal uses. I have Vista on my laptop, and it works well enough, and has some cool features... but I really see no reason to spend $99+ to upgrade my perfectly stable PC.
It's quite impressive seeing the game in person. Especially when you shoot something metallic... the bullet hole glows for a sec, throwing off sparks from the bullet that actually bounce around a bit before disappearing. This little attention to detail really adds to the immersion of the world.
Oh yeah, the fire is also unbelievable.
It's up there, definitely. My personal nod goes to MGS4. Just totally epic and well done in every respect. I also think MGS has the best theme ever, with close runner ups for the Zelda Theme, Halo Theme, and FF Theme.
Mega Man X9... SNES or PS1 era sprites. Pretty please?
Mega Man X and Mega Man X4 are still 2 of the best Mega Man games!
