If MS starts selling XBox 360 hubcaps, and that produces some unholy amount of revenue, does that qualify them as a great games company?

My point is, that most of the people here on N4G consider themselves GAMERS. MS doesn't truly cater to them, even if they do make money, and the XBox 360 appeals to more than just that crowd.

Hence, the complaining, and the "money doesn't matter" statements. People are talking from their own perspective, ...

@thespaz

"Call of Duty graphics have changed over the years."

Yeah, they've actually gotten worse. They looked pretty sweet in CoD4:MW, and except for the possible "on par" exception of MW2, they've gone downhill since then. Black Ops was one of the worst looking shooters I've seen in a long time.

I find it ironic that you will probably need to buy older Wiimotes, nunchuks, and classic controllers, which don't come with the console, to actually enjoy gaming on the Wii U.

In a sense, Nintendo has discovered a way to *force* the console owner into buying more accessories, by not including a viable controller for most games in the package, and all the while claiming its "revolutionary". Business genius. Nintendo is truly the master of selling game hardware...

Wow. That's an awful, awful business model for the little guys. Can't change the price point? Can't update unless there's a critical bug?

Lame.

Is Nintendo deliberately trying to make them shy away from making WiiWare?

I will stop gaming if my only option is to play via streaming, and I have been PC and console gaming for nearly 30 years.

Streaming sucks. Really badly. There are way better options, and that's exactly where I'll take myself, and my wallet.

Hate me for this analogy, but the PSP Go also has tons of games and some unique features, including being "more powerful" than a PSP-1000 (it has 2x the memory, and the battery lasts way longer, since the PSP-1000 battery was designed to last 4-6hrs at 222 MHz, not 333 which is the current PSP clock)

I love my Go, but I also understand why it flopped. I can see why lots of people prefer the DSi to the 3DS, too.

Godsmars is right.

Ironically, doing good 2D animation, that looks good on a high def screen, costs more than doing 3D.

In the past, when blocky characters and 2-frame animations were acceptable, it wasn't such a big deal. Hiring pro 2D animators to draw the motions of animated high-def (3DS really is "high def" compared to older platforms) in a game such that it looks on par with games made by, for example, Vanillaware, but with the variety of...

If you think the general public knows what, and when the Wii U is, you're dreaming.

Wii sales are failing for a different reason -- market saturation.

Isn't Pokemon Co... Nintendo? You'd think their PR folks would keep them quiet about the difficulty of developing on the 3DS.

I'm playing Tales of Eternia and Breath of Fire III on my PSP right now, and they use sprites.

So did the PSP Disgaea games, and a load of others. It's a developer art style choice -- and frankly, good anime costs a lot more than decent 3D (in the West).

In Japan, there are tons and tons of PSP sprite games, because the talent is present for the devs to use, and the Japanese gamer appreciates it.

Um. Sony has more first party devs than Nintendo, bro.

Lack of 3rd party support is what killed the Wii. Lack of exclusive support is what is losing the 360 ground vs the PS3.

I don't see how the Vita fails in this regard.

5364d ago 4 agree1 disagreeView comment

The Vita is a viable cross-platform with the 360 and PS3, because the CPU and GPU are decently strong (much moreso than the Wii, for example), and the memory size is similar. The controls are even mostly present, and then some.

That's practically a free ticket to great games, if you choose portable gaming over console gaming.

LoL @ the disagrees. You poor saps will never land a job outside of the Walmart you work at, with that mindset.

I challenge even one of you to come up with a different, reasonable explanation as to why its 1080p on the PS3, and not on the 360, outside of the blatantly untrue "360 can't do 1080p for realz".

It can do it, it just sucks at it, because tiled rendering is hideously expensive (on the 360) due to the same feature that makes the 360 GP...

Uh. No. Write levelling, friends, write levelling.

5364d ago 2 agree0 disagreeView comment

Naw, the 360 can do 1080p via tiled rendering.

Apparently, the 360 version of GoldenEye is just bad at 1080p, so they went with 720p. It wasn't bad on the PS3, so they went there. Simple.

Good article.

You could argue that the Wii is "hard to develop for" using the same arguments that devs who use the 360 as their lead use, simply because its different enough to cause some rethinking.

The Wii is excused because its a lesser platform than the 360, but the PS3 isn't because its *well known* that the PS3 is at least as capable as the 360, if you know what you're doing. Thus, its a "pain", because you have those awesom...

I doesn't have all that much "extra processing power" -- it has extra memory, and that's about it.

The textures will be higher rez, and the framerate may be better than the 360 version, but that'll be the extent of the improvements, because that's what is cheap to do for a direct port.

5364d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

The Wii U is supposed to be easy to use, just like the 360. It's also supposed to be *very* similar to the 360, on the whole.

The 360 hasn't really seen much in the way of technologically improved games since about 2007. While I would normally agree the statement you just made, regarding consoles in general, I have to say that the Wii U would probably be an exception to that rule. Frankly, the Wii was maxed out with Metroid Prime 3, which was also very early in its...

Anyone who thinks Gears 3 even looks as good as U1 is smoking something mighty strong.

Gears is about the cover and gunplay with outrageously hard to kill aliens, chainsaws, and way too many bullets. Lots of people like that. It cannot compete with Uncharted, when it comes to tech -- not even close. Uncharted is about a good story, told via a balanced mix of exploration and gunplay.

The gameplay styles are fairly different, and that should be the buyer'...

Man. Whatever happened to REAL flightsims.. The ones where every missile is fired (realistically) BVR, and a SINGLE hit from a 20mm cannon busts a jet's ability to stay in the air for good (i.e. realistically). The rods expelled from many AA missiles would tear apart BOTH aircraft at the distances in that trailer, unless the distant guy got real lucky.

The new Ace Combat looks good, but... man I miss the good stuff from yesteryear. It should always, always be about ene...
