$450 for CPU, GPU, RAM, motherboard, 300W power supply, , HDD, BD optical drive, small cool case, and 2 decent case fans. Add a game controller, too.

150W CPU+GPU power -- assume the is for the drives, fans, motherboard, memory, PSU safety margin, etc.

Put together a PC which meets those requirements, and tell us if we *really* want a PS4 next year, or if we can wait a couple more.

I can wait, personally. I'll take a real upgrade, over ...

So... you're telling us that.. what? The hit detection in some previous SOCOM... ANY previous SOCOM, was even remotely as good? Wow will we all get a laugh if that's your claim.

Are you claiming that the first shot, from any weapon but a hip-fired sniper rifle, doesn't land in the center of the reticle? That you can't control your bursts, and require the lazer guns of the past to score a kill?

Tell us more about your complaint... you know, ...

LoL at the people whining about this game. You guys obviously haven't played it. You sound so dumb, talking out your a$# about it, too.

So then... this game is getting ported for the Wii U?

5377d ago 0 agree1 disagreeView comment

BS. You don't start production on hardware you haven't even announced, and they aren't going to simply skip E3 as a venue for announcement.

This is 100% pure BS.

Lets see... games ships in September, so it needs about 2 months to get the initial shipment of ~3M copies printed and shipped... that's the end of this month, it has to be done, folks.

Any recent build leak is *damn near* the final version.

Grand Theft Auto IV is the poorest selling title in franchise history on the PS3 or 360.

What a dumb article.

Hahahahaha!

That's all I have to say to this article.

Therefore:

It must have a lot of RAM (probably ~1GB RAM, with 512MB VRAM, as the rumors have stated), and the optical drive must read pretty fast. Both things would make iD's streaming tech much better.

A HDD is preferable to any optical disc, for streaming data, but only the PS3 and PC are guaranteed to have them, and users whine too much about large installs on the PS3 to make it worthwhile to install your entire game there, like Rage probably wants. ...

I actually think the textures are kinda low res, even if there is a huge amount of variety. I guess that's where the "arguably" best looking comes in.

600W PSU is twice as much as would be sellable, in a livingroom appliance. The box would be way too big, and it would be too loud, unless you bought a liquid cooling solution.

And that setup is *maybe* 5x as powerful as the PS3/360, not 30-40x lol. Even 5x is pushin it -- maybe the GPU is 5-10x, but the CPU sure isn't.

And, you can't build a $300 PC to compete. The motherboard and memory required for modern CPUs and Windows 7 would put you back at ...

No, it shouldn't be free. It should cost even more.. say $365/year. That's only 1 dollar a day folks! So cheap, right? Break it down further, that's only a little over 4 cents an hour of CoD... Come on, that's nothin'. $365 is actually just 4 cents!

Lighten your wallet a little more for MS. They give so much, and ask for so little.

You realize that 28nm GPUs are due out this year, and that past the next (20nm) stepping, there's a huge R&D milestone to beat before PCs get any better (or cheaper), right? Huge as in, it might not even be economically feasible, like.. ever to produce smaller chips?

Stupid atoms. Why can't they be smaller? And those dang electrons, why must they leak so bad at tiny fabrication scales?

28nm GPUs are due out at the end of the year, folks. Wait until then, if you're gonna build a new rig.

Then, at least, you'll be on par with the new consoles, when they hit the shelves in a couple years. It'll cost you a cool $1500 at least, though, if you get the new 28nm stuff right away. You have to consider, however, that a $2000 rig built in late 2005, with a brand new 7800 GTX, 3G of RAM, and a Pentium D, is probably mostly capable of competing with conso...

I actually prefer the blurryness of the PS2 version -- it helps hide some of the last-gen nature of the colossi models and textures.

However, at 60 FPS, and with full HD surround sound... I'm not going to have any other gripes.

They make the 360 MLAA sound really great, at a 2.5ms GPU cost, but the fact of the matter is that its 2.5ms of GPU time, which is far more valuable than the 3-4ms of CPU time that the Cell uses while the PS3 GPU moves on to do extra processing for the next frame.

However, it *does* save some nasty tiled rendering expenses (reprocessing of geometry, and some memory costs) on the 360 GPU, and provides a pretty nice overall result, so we may see it on the 360 in some situations...

RockStar San Diego had the same issues with RDR, as I recall. The wives of the people who worked there actually filed a lawsuit.

A recurring RockStar theme?

12 hours/day, 6 days/week, for a year straight is more accurate.

Lots of people work 12 hours/day. Not many work 72 hours/week for a full year on end. 60 hour crunch weeks, for about 6 months on end, are the accepted limit in the games industry, really.

Developers aren't paid all that much, and there is no overtime pay. They aren't MDs, and they are salaried for 40 hour weeks.

20nm is the limit folks, for a long, long time (well, okay.. 16nm, maybe). Mobile low-power devices will "never" (meaning a much longer time than you might imagine) be good enough to replace home consoles.

Chips just plain aren't going to get better past about 2015, until nanotech fabrication is along far enough to allow mass production. In a sense, it hasn't even been invented yet, in the practical sense.

Its a gamble to think mobile devi...
