NIS makes some great niche games. I'm looking forward to hearing more about this one.
Agreed. JRPGs are what they are. They can't really change, because Japanese devs don't have the zillions of $$ to grow and fully utilize modern tech -- their games are still targetted at the primary audience, which is Japan only.
It's sad that they are judged by a WRPG standard, IMO. They are something of an inbetween of indie games and "big" titles. Games with the production values of FF13 and Lost Odyssey are the exception, not the norm.
I have trouble believing its as bad as "5.7", especially when you consider that the game includes the entire first game. The first game was pretty good, and Level-5 basically makes quality stuff every single time.
The review ends with "If you want a game with a lengthy story mode, and an online component, there are far better choices available". So.. like what? Phantasy Star Online went offline a couple years back. Demon's Souls and Dark Souls, an...
The original Arcade version of Ninja Gaiden. I could do the entire game on one quarter about 65% of the time. It was all about mastering the backflip+throw timing, and making it to boss fights without the rest of the game tearing you down.
Somebody must be able to top that.
Am I the only one who thinks that Nintendo classics don't need to be remade?
Zelda 64, Majora's Mask, Wind Waker, Twilight Princess -- I played them all (again) on the Wii. They were solid gold, just like the first time. Remakes... not needed. Ever.
Also, @ the above post: WW was THE best Zelda game ever made. Flawed gameplay... humph! ;)
"Jonathon Blow revolutionized downloadable games on Xbox Live with Braid in 2008"
Lol?
Braid was good, but it wasn't some revolution.
How does a QA tester know anything about developer relations? He basically seems to think that if the publisher quality control regulations are softer, then that makes for good dev relations?
More like it makes for buggier games, and has nothing to do with dev relations at all.
Actually it means "no texture popping"
I would hazard a guess that the PC version also has a mandatory 8GB install. HDD streaming is far superior to any optical media.
JsonHenry,
You're basically helping instrument the shift of the games industry from creative titles like ICO and SotC, to carbon copy crap like annual CoD.
Like it or not, only the mouth of the individual consumer has voice, in this regard -- no huge entity will come in and save the day. You buy, and reward the devs you like, hoping that others will do the same, or you let them be destroyed and replaced by garbage.
There is no inbetween....
Wow. Some Wii fanboys are pretty desperate. This article is just sad. Who would write random drivel like that?
DS requires some serious time investment to do right, and part of its appeal is its hardcore "no saving/restoring, you just die" mentality.
Handhelds pretty much require their games to have the ability to pause/save at any time, because of the way people tend to use their handhelds.
Kinda contrary concepts, so I dunno if it could come to a handheld, outside of changing its hardcore scary-death mechanics, which would.. well it wouldn't be dark/de...
So you're claiming that a machine with a 8800 GTX will be able to run at 60 fps (as opposed to the PS3's 30) in 1280x720 resolution, with AA equivalent to MLAA, and details matching the PS3 build? And I think not.
I guess we'll have to see which one of those statements is ignorant. If Windows was a decently lightweight OS, or PCs from that time period had decent CPUs, your comment might have some weight.
Using "60 players" as an exampl...
So.. a PS3 has a GPU that is the equivalent of the 7950 GT, yet it looks better than the PC with the 8800 GTX, a card which is like 3x as powerful?
That's interesting...
I have a single 6850, and the chart says "medium settings", meaning I'll have to knock AA down. Fine by me, because anything past 2x MSAA is wasteful on a 1360x768 or greater image anyway.
I imagine a pair of 6850s will allow you to play on max settings, with 4x MSAA easily.
There are plenty of good ST games.
You want to be a Klingon arsewhooper? You shoulda picked up Klingon Honor Guard when it came out (based on Unreal 2, I think)
You want to command some starship action? Go pick up Star Fleet Command: Orion Pirates, or any of the other SFC games. They are *still* good games, if you have the tech saavy to get them to run on a modern PC.
Publishers don't tend to make a lot of ST games, because when fricki...
The packet loss and lag will go up during peak internet hours -- basically 4/7pm PST/EST until 8/11pm in the US, and similar hours elsewhere. Sadly that's... well its game playing primetime. If you're playing at other times in your region, its probably worthwhile to try it.
It won't just be superior, it will be "way more superior" according to the tagline. LoL.
Awesome. I mean the tagline. I'll have to see it being awesome on Wii U before I believe it, and frankly, I like my controllers controller-sized, not iPad-sized.
Until the Wii U catches on -- i.e. there are at least 15-20 million units in households -- there is *no* decent reason for devs to put extra effort into making *crossplat* titles better on Wi...
"Just buy the game for the platform u like the most....end of discussion"
LoL at the 7 disagrees this comment had, when I wrote this response. If you take this as a statistical sample, approximately 4% of all N4G posters thrive solely upon making trouble on the site.
Folklore was brilliantly done. Even if the tech wasn't stellar, the art style was absolutely spectacular.
Honestly that game is easier on the eyes that just about every game this gen. It's a shame that gaming rags care so much about tech, when its style that really makes a game beautiful.
The only game here, IMO, that deserves "top 5" in that regard, is U2.
Umm.. Lego Harry Potter: Years 1-4 is neck and neck with Oblivion for sales, and Oblivion has been out for 3 years longer.
Lego HP: Years 5-7 will probably destroy Skyrim in the short-term, when it comes to sales.
