On the contrary, it has everything to do with the specs. Non-techhead consumers won't touch anything that isn't *visibly* leaps and bounds ahead of what they already have.

We still compare PC and PS3 games. Heck people still argue whether or not Uncharted 2 or Crysis 1 look better, and Crysis is running on WAY better hardware from a tech perspective... yet the visible differences are small enough that the average joe can hardly tell. You think the average joe will ...

A machine capable of justifying billions of dollars of reinvestment in software technology, to rebuild all the software engines that run on the PS3, would require WAY more horsepower than currently fits in a $500 low-power livingroom box.

The best you could do wouldn't be much better than the Wii U, which is rumored to only be mildly better than the PS3 and 360. People just aren't going to fork out $500 for such a mild upgrade.

I sincerely doubt Sony...

Nothing like the truth to bring the fanboys out of the woodwork to complain.

In before the obligatory "Bethesda won't survive the next gen, where iPhone will be the gaming platform of choice" comments.

This statement gives me some faith in Bethesda, personally. They understand their market well enough to realize that the crippled apps on iPhone just won't cut it for the kind of gamer that is interested in games like Skyrim. That's not something that can be said of all publishers.

Evil people inherently believe that everyone else is also evil. It's their justification, in the face of good actions done by others. Without their excuse-making, they would be forced to face their actions and intentions, and the human self-preservation instinct prevents that.

Many players cannot bear to be evil in any game, even though it seems like it was designed to be fun from that angle. If you can't place yourself, as a character, in said role without feeling...

These games haven't been released a zillion times. That'd be a welcome thing.

I have to agree. Offering Nintendo re-releases to longtime Nintendo fans is... not right. We played that. A bunch.

Good interview, and the "don’t make games, go work for a bank." quote is so true.

People who think making games is a good way to make money are delusional. You do it because you like it, and that's the only reason. It doesn't pay too well, for most people.

Target was having a gift card w/your new 360 deal too...

I smell an incoming price cut.

Honestly the one I've sunk the most time into... MAG.

Seems like a less glamourous choice but... I was driven to play it, and its dang fun.

Almost all of Microsoft's area was Kinect-related, with the exception of the Gears and Forza portions, which were a little smallish.

Gears was in MP, and honestly didn't look any better than previous games. I'm really hoping SP is tuned up a bit, and looks hot.

Halo had its own separate huge area, which was cool, but Gears deserved more, IMO.

(I meant this as a reply to BLow's post)

I watched RAGE at PAX for the better part of an hour, right at a spot where the PS3 and 360 versions were next to each other.

They looked totally identical, barring two things. It looked like it was sub-720p on the 360 (it just looked.. I dunno.. muddier), and full 720p on the PS3, and every now and then, *rarely*, there was a frame tear on the PS3 (in some outdoor quad bike areas), but I never saw the same issue ...

You sound like you've never seen a full array LED in action.

There's a severely diminishing return with enhancing game graphics past the current gen's level, due to the sheer amount of extra investment required, vs the number of extra buyers who would actually notice the difference.

About the only things that would make publishers (they matter, the devs do NOT, mostly) happy, with next gen hardware, would be:

(1) Lower cost to produce the same results. Sloppier engineering, art means cheaper/less engineers, ar...

You realize that 60fps is basically reserved for games which don't have enough graphical detail -- at *whatever* resolution they run at -- to justify running at 30fps, yeah?

Racers are inherently boring scenes, and 60 fps provides a tangible benefit in high-speed racing conditions. It's almost worthless for every other game genre, given the tradeoff of effectively having twice as much GPU power (time/frame) instead.

Its just a backdrop of a anime character in a bikini. How is that "sex"?

It'd be okay if it was a man beheading, or gutting, another man though, of course. Because that's how "life" is, right? Certainly there's none of the other business in the whole life process... only the life-ending part.

Even if the game sells 100K lifetime, NoA could make a profit from printing a low number (100K), since the dev cost is nil (the localization is done!), and only the cost-of-goods is really an issue (and getting a retailer to buy... but one would for certain).

They could easily do a small run of discs that are simply identical to the EU discs, with different region encoding, and if the run is approx the same number as total (say month 1) EU sales times 2, then they're basi...

This game is awesome. I highly encourage anyone who ever enjoyed Star Control 2 (the classic that many folks say inspired Mass Effect), and its ilk, to try it out.

You can download the demo free on Steam. I haven't bought it yet, but I plan to, in the near future.

Otherwise... no. Certainly not for gaming. Anyone who claims otherwise is just surfing for hits for their site.
