The 2nd analog costs money, and that's it, as far as Nintendo is concerned.
They still make a profit on the $169.99 pricetag, if that's any indication of just how far they will go to profit from brand loyalty. They probably figured they were doing the gamer a favor by adding a single analog stick to begin with... even though gamers screamed for years (with the PSP) that *two* analogs were necessary for game control if you were to utilize that schema at all.

Blind Nintendo fanboy defense drones, or vulture-like anti-Nintendo drones?
Hmm. Or both?
Yeah wow @ the disagrees.
The fanboy hate must be truly blinding, to not give these games the props they deserve.
Camera control on the 2nd stick is HUGE. It was on the Wii for MH3, and it will be for the 3DS and Vita.
You don't need a 2nd stick for Monster Hunter, no... but man is it nice. You guys should actually PLAY some MH3 on the Wii before yammering on about how non-essential the second stick is, and how its not a big deal if you don't have the 2nd stick.
It IS a big deal. Seriously, if you don't know how important camera control is in MH, you can...
Nope. RAGE definitely looked better on the PS3 at PAX. It looked to be full 720p, whereas the 360 version looked to be 640p or so -- it had that smudgey CoD look, whereas the PS3 version was crystal clear. However, I did notice the occasional frame tear, when on the quadbike outdoors on the PS3, and I didn't notice it on the 360 -- that may imply a more steady framerate on the 360, which you'd expect, given a lower rez image. The texture streaming was better on the PS3 as well -- ...
BF3 and RAGE both look better on the PS3, according to the media, and frankly, according to my own eyes at PAX this year. The 360 version of RAGE was clearly lower rez than the PS3 version... that or someone smudged their greasy hands all over the 360 station's TV that I was standing next to.
This was PAX, so the greasy smudging is not out of the question. ;)
fluffydelusions says:
" I'd like to know how credible this analyst is since the article fails to mention his name."
From the article:
""In the case of the Xbox 360 it is an older system and clearly there are concerns about content looking better on the PS3," commented David Cole of DFC Intelligence."
Kinda seems like his name might be David Cole. You should read the article before making such inflammatory co...
A Blu-Ray add-on would be for movies ONLY, folks. It is entirely possible for that reason.
If you can't guarantee that everyone has one, games won't be printed in that format, period. The 360 will always use its built-in DVD drive for games.
If the graphics are low to medium quality... I don't see the point of buying digitally, and having to deal with lag, needing an internet connection, not getting the game patched, etc.
Why not just play it on your actual PC in low to medium graphical quality, and own the game, patch it at will, have no control lag, etc? The only benefit is that you don't have to find the game disc on your shelf?
I bet the next version of the 3DS has no buttons whatsoever. You just buy them all as add-ons. ;)
That's a sweet way to bump the price of the system -- trick the consumer into buying the touchscreen and CPU/GPU, then have them add gaming controls later! That *is* what smartphones are, after all. Maybe Ninty thinks this is a clever business model... that most people don't even want controls, past the touchscreen.
Sounds scary, but hey... look at th...
Wow. Ugly.
Why? Will some games actually require you to run out and buy this hideous beast?
I'm honestly surprised the 360 isn't 630p or so. There are plenty of games that run at less, and look great (e.g. CoD4, CoD6), and fitting everything in the eDRAM makes the framerate much much better...
Hmm maybe they are using the 360 GPU version of MLAA, though? Then resolutions up to 720p would fit just fine..
'Hardcore gamers will say "wtf?" '
All those hardcore gamers still looking to get a PSP maybe (i.e. none), plus all the Nintendo fanboys who will be outraged that Sony is moving in on Nintendo DS turf (likely the majority of complainers).
The 99 euro price point is *exactly* where the PSP fits these days, and Sony is smart to move it there. The 129 euro PSP-3000 will still be available, for all those "hardcore" non-owners looking ...
Like.. how many more? 2? 3?
Lol. I get a kick out of the MS fanboy comments, trying to change the subject and divert attention from the topic at hand.
Listen to you guys (the PC gamers).
It's not that *you* can tell the difference between Crysis and UC. You do not represent the majority of console purchases. You don't even represent a significant minority!
Get out of the fanboy/techhead/videophile mentality. Try to see the gaming world from the perspective of a non-geek for a little while.
This guy is 100% correct.
The number of mobile devices available now, vs the number available then, makes it pretty clear.
No device can truly dominate any longer, no matter who makes it. The DS/DSLite/DSi will remain unchallenged as the greatest selling handheld of all time, just because it existed when there just weren't many other options (than the PSP). Even the mighty iPhone/iPod will never reach its original numbers, because Android has just plain...
MS would have to had worked out a price cut well in advance with retailers.
Retail chains and MS sign deals, basically stating that, if MS chops the price before a certain amount of time has expired on a set of purchased consoles, they have to refund the retail chain the difference, etc. Price cuts must be planned well in advance for this reason, and others -- often they are timed with manufacturing process changes, so that, conveniently, old models are taken off the shelves...
I also played RAGE at PAX.
Fallout 3 it's not... but honestly I don't expect a lot of depth from iD. Was anyone really expecting it to be better than previous iD games, in that regard?
The game looked good (I played on the PS3), and the 360 version looked decent (the station next to me was a 360, and a pal of mine played that version), but I can't say that I really have anything exceptional to say about it, outside of that.
"There's a reason that the PSP was the fattest selling handheld in the history of vidyagames."
The fattest? Actually the DS was a little fatter than the PSP, iirc.
Also, nice troll account, mr. 3 posts, and 2 of them in this thread.
