I think you don't grasp the extent to which graphics rez needs to be reduced. It's literally 2x the work to render a true stereo scene, and less than solid 60 fps has been shown to make people ill with VR tech. The only AAA game this gen that has held a solid 60 fps at 1080p is Forza 5. Both KZ:SF and Tomb Raider dip below 60 a significant portion of the time.

You're basically asking for a game to be rendered at the equivalent of 1080p and 120 Hz -- how many ga...

More journalism trickery, folks. Smed's comment is taken out of context.

He said that he had heard good things about 2 competing devices, then he said "one of which came from Sony". He didn't mean one of the devices, however -- he meant one of the good things he had heard came from a Sony team. Smed is not so dumb as to let slip random news on Sony VR tech.

There are at least 2 serious competing VR techs on the horizon -- one is Oculus, o...

The lack of scaling on multicore CPUs, and worse performance on AMD chips, which have worse single core perf than Intel, suggests this game is written in a very non-parallel friendly manner.

That'll be a huge problem on the PS4. That said, I bet the PC version of this game gets an amazing frame rate boost, from newfound parallelism, after the PS4 version comes out... I sincerely doubt Sony will ship this on PS4, as is.

There's a very limited supply of GDDR5 in the world. Ironically, if MS had also gone with GDDR5, both consoles would be in very bad supply shape, and would both be selling horribly thanks to it.

It's very likely that Sony only chose to go with 8 GB of it *because* MS chose to not go with it at all. The bigger factors of supply & demand probably only became clear at that point.

Do I seriously have to link all the reports of stick wear to you? Feel free to search on N4G -- that's what the tools are there for.

You disagree with NEOGaf on the light using most if the battery?

Do you have measured proof, like they do?

@below: Note there are 6 LEDs, not one. I'm surprised you're claiming knowledge of this, without that basic fact.

LoL BS. Next Epic will sue everyone who made a TPS for "looking like Gears".

Retail moves stuff pretty fast. They don't buy what they cannot sell.

As a side note, I saw 3 PS4s on the shelf at my local Fred Meyer (a large US west coast retail chain, owned by Kroger corp).. and no XB1s (empty shelf) just this past weekend.

Am I dumb enough to pretend that my anecdotal observation represents the whole truth? No.

Shipped == sold, bro. Retailers bought them. They aren't going to sit and waste shelf space for long. Hate to break it to ya: retail buyers aren't stupid.

It actually is a really good architecture, from the power/price perspective MS needed to include the undoubtedly expensive Kinect 2.0 camera in the box.

GDDR5 is probably the primary reason that the PS4 will be in short supply, both now and in the foreseeable future -- its only other market is high-end graphics cards, so it's not produced in great quantities, and its very expensive.

Without the SDRAM, the relatively heavyweight GPU portion of the XB1 APU ...

Honestly, anyone who is excited about this service, and streaming games by paying full price for them, while playing with visual artifacts and lag... is not very serious about gaming. There is NO WAY this can ever match the real thing. Think about it -- the speed of light will limit any signal you can ever get in your home via streaming, to about 25ms of extra lag (light takes 135ms to make it around the planet once, and network lines are not even close to being straight from the server to ...

Vita kicks the 3DS' tail, bud. 3DS has Nintendo franchises, and beyond that, it's pretty dry to this day.

The only non-Nintendo 3DS game I'm even looking forward to is Bravely Default, whereas I have at least 4 Vita games on my wanted list. I know that's anecdotal, but I think you'll find that the 3DS' sales appeal is mostly to kids and young gamers. The Vita is the far superior handheld if you're an adult.

Hardware sales does...

Man, I can't wait to use that Steam controller, so I can desperately search to _actively_ recenter my "sticks" without the actual stick pulling me to center when my thumbs _relax_, and so I can have streaming game _lag_ from my actual gaming PC!

So exciting! Maybe I can play Half-Life 2 and Portal again on it, without the streaming BS!

The nVidia slide made me laugh. Where did they get those numbers from? X360 GPU is "240" and PS3 is "192"?

On paper, the PS3's GPU is actually more powerful than the X360's.. it's only after you take the huge memory bandwidth advantage of the eDRAM into account that the Xenos/360 GPU becomes really potent. nVidia boiled that down to a number, despite the fact that it is implemented in software by each developer, and in different ways? LoL. ...

I actually think Destiny and Elder Scrolls Online will be.. disappointing. Elder Scrolls was great because of its single player exploration nature, and mods -- it wouldn't make a good MMO, so they're gonna have to change too much to make it fly -- and then it won't be Elder Scrolls anymore. Destiny.. just sounds like Firefall, only made by Activision, so it'll cost a truckload to subscribe to (you know Activision is trying to supplement WoW income), and will probably severel...

Project Spark is also slated to come to 360, iirc. I would not at all be surprised if 3rd parties also continued to support the 360 for a few years, just due to the sheer number of them in homes, relative to the newer consoles.
