There's not even a new cell being made anymore. Too expensive for Sony to continue making a chip with one sole purpose when its significantly cheaper to use a mass market one like the AMD chip it has already been pretty much confirmed using.
The cell was okay for its time but CPUs have progressed a lot since then as well while the cell has only been shrunken to new process nodes with no further R&D for a next gen chip.

Well it could be either way. The series stayed true to the movie pretty well, it just continued the story. My main point is having a Stargate in your story gives you endless possibilities of environments to explore.

Stargate could have did really, REALLY, well as a video game franchise. The premise of the show is perfect for it to offer a lot of variety that completely honors the canon story line.
A stargate can simply take you to any type of planet you want to visit for an on foot adventure and you can have some space combat to boot.

EA may easily change their minds if they put out hardware. Withholding some of your games so people will use your client is one thing but if the steam box is successful, shareholders will probably demand the extra revenue that a steam console would produce.
as long as they dont sell "consoles" at a loss they dont have much to lose. At worst they break even and walk away. This is the benefit of building a console out of 100% pc stuff. Nothing is custom made and has unforeseen costs. This is why all the next gen consoles will use basic pc parts too.

Working Designs had another great game called Vay on the Sega CD which I thought was at least as good if not better then the Lunar games which I loved as well. I really wish it would had seen more love. Workings Designs had to be one of the greatest companies of that time - even the strategy guides for their games where phenomenal and very personably written in a way I've never seen copied, though I haven't bought a strategy guide since...hmm FF7?

Stargate in particular has the perfect "Setting" for a video game with the um Stargate as a focal point of the story line. It can send you to a multitude of places with outdoor or indoor environments that could make up many different situations.
