@RpgSama the Switch is the first Nintendo platform I've owned since the N64 and GB Color. I couldn't pass up Mario Odyssey, Mario Kart 8 Deluxe, Breath of the Wild, and Pokemon all on one platform.
Combining their handheld and home console development teams onto one platform has done wonders. With the Switch you can play all the usual home console games, but also the big handheld games like Pokemon and Animal Crossing.
Global hardware estimates (Followed by lifetime sales):
Switch - 546,930 (50,354,930)
PlayStation 4 - 307,534 (106,251,921)
Xbox One - 82,063 (46,049,665)
3DS - 7,454 (75,004,990)
A little over 12 million to go to outsell the NES.
It goes to show that exclusives are what sells consoles and not power.
I am one of those that own a Nintendo Switch, but not a SNES. Who here owns one or both of the consoles?
Global hardware estimates (Followed by lifetime sales):
Switch - 961,543 (49,791,800)
PlayStation 4 - 450,810 (105,914,087)
Xbox One - 177,480 (46,006,382)
3DS - 9,600 (74,996,396)
PS Vita - 31 (15,901,777)
PS4 did release 3 years and 4(ish) months before the Switch. Switch is currently tracking on par or just ahead of the PS4 if you align the launches.
After the SNES and 50 million milestones is 60 million and the NES with 61.9 million.
Switch is also now less than 2 million away from surpassing the lifetime sales of the SNES.
SNES sold 49.1 million and NES sold 61.9 million.
They will need to turn things around next generation to have a fighting chance. Having acquired so many studios in the last couple of years is a decent start. Now it is time to see games from them.
Up next is the SNES with sales of 49.1 million units. Can the Switch surpass it by the end of the year?
I'd guess next generation is when we will see more games from all the studios they've acquired the last couple of years. It takes developers 2-3 (if not more) years to develop games.
The Nintendo Switch is now a little over 300,000 units away from outselling the Xbox One at the end of November and it should surpass it in December.
The Switch did launch over 3 years after the PS4. When you align the launches the Switch is selling as well as the PS4 did after the same amount of time. Yes, it is a hybrid console, while the PS4 is only a home console.
Switch could be surpassing the Xbox One as we speak. 300,000 is a small gap this time of year with how well the Switch is selling.
Global hardware estimates (Followed by lifetime sales):
Switch - 1,631,259 (44,587,334)
PlayStation 4 - 1,181,523 (103,736,169)
Xbox One - 913,506 (44,911,567)
3DS - 20,973 (74,932,879)
PS Vita - 24 (15,901,622)
Switch is on track to surpass the Xbox One worldwide in the next two weeks. The US is going to take longer as the Xbox One has sold over 26 million there, while the Switch is just under 15 million.
Only a matter of time before it tops 60 million units sold with Ultimate still selling well every quarter.
