The classic game I know that is not turning into FPS is Jagged Alliance... I hope the new gameplay schemes (semi-realtime) would still be appealing.

You beat me to this (haha)... I, too, started with a voodoo2 in 1999 and never looked back to software rendered gaming. It was only out of compulsion that I bought it, and I was floored when I fired up Need for Speed 3 and Half Life. The Voodoo 2 was the only missing link because I wondered why NFS was so choppy even with Pentium 166-MMX.

RTS's like StarCraft require not only fast reflexes and accuracy, but real thought and forethought.

I would not last 5 minutes against Boxer.

Isn't there both a paid and free subscription for Elite?

Challenge: accepted! :-)

I agree - spending for a product or service is totally discretionary on the part of a consumer. For the example given, some who are not into cruises would think it's too outrageous to pay for such a vacation for two and would rather use the money to buy a computer (or an expensive car part that is not that essential at all) and vice versa.

A good friend of mine who loves cars refuses to buy an Ipad because he says it's "expensive", but went on to buy expen...

They're trying to win back COD players for PC after IWNet. MW2 could have been superlative if dedi's were supported. I don't know, but seems to me they took out dedi's then, and for MW3 they're pushing LAN's and dedi's as a feature and are "excited" about it.

I miss the PC COD community after COD4, so we'll see if MW3 will rebuild that community to an extent.

For the free Elite account I think COD players will have to sign up for it from MW3 onwards. COD Elite won't be only for MW3, so you should be fine for a yearly subscription.

I see your point about open vs. progression/story dependent games - thanks. I've been playing too much open sandbox games too much recently, I forget. :-)

I agree with the article - the gameplay is very rich, but to choose your own ending was to me, cheap. It is so easy just to push the button and see what's behind the curtain. Reload a saved game and push a different button, and you get another slideshow. Worse is after the credits, you are dumped back to the main menu.

I was very excited for Dreamland Chronicles, but sadly it was cancelled like Julian said. If he says Valkyria would be "eerily" the same as they evisioned Dreamland I might check that out.

UFO Enemy Unknown would be up there as one of my old time favorites, a sleeper hit - even bought a Steam copy of it just to have it all over again. I just tried it out of the blue in '94 without knowing if UFO would be good or bad, but because I liked Breach and Breach 2 bef...

@FlaimBaitGod:

Excellent, I'll take a look at that. Thanks!

That makes sense.

PC Gamers on the platform for more than 20 years would remember how many game developers loved to overshoot the capabilities of the then mid-range gaming rigs (and to some extent dream machines) back then, it was just like challenging the hardware manufacturers to make something that can run their game to the highest settings, and encouraging gamers to upgrade to better hardware. This in my opinion drove growth, innovation, invention, and improvement in th...

Hmmm, Can you play FPS with a Keyboard and Mouse on a PS3 like, say, MW2? I think you can use the KB and mouse on the PS3 for browsing and internet but I think it only stops there when you fire up a game - correct me if I'm wrong. I haven't really tried to see that for myself on my PS3...

Edit: After looking more about this in the internet, initially we need to get something called FragFX.

Edit2: Oh, FragFx is not an adapter, but a mouse and cont...

I recently bought a Logitech G110 (a G19 without the LCD) - was torn between the Merc and G110. What put me off with the Merc is its length and no experience how the keys click. I think the G110 is good enough, but kinda overpriced for a keyboard but I'm happy with it.

We haven't seen much space combat sims for years (or popular ones for the matter). In my personal experience the last one I took attention to playing was Freelancer (PC) and after that I could not think of any other that followed. Before that Wing Commander was THE space combat game, and Independence War.

Would it be great if Console gamers would finally get to play space sim games like Wing Commander and X-Wing? Or are there any space sims for consoles that I don't...

Wow look at that setup - rows of rigs with 2x580's in SLI...I wish I was there to try the game out, especially if the machines could be brought home... :-D yeah yeah like EA would allow that.

I'm not sure how many times some developers have tried to replicate UFO:Enemy Unknown/X-COM: UFO Defense, but I think almost all them failed due to design and implementation problems.

This might beat Xenonauts to the race even if UFO 2 is still delayed.
