Well article is clearly bull... not because of the batteries but because it was written by a very uninformed person.

Saying Move is just taking Nintendo's idea is bull... we know the concept has been researched since 2000, even before Nintendo came out with its Wii.

Saying Kinect is original is bull ... Eyetoy was there before, actually both devices use the same movement reconition software developped by Gesturetek.

Saying Kinect invente...

Folklore, Flower, Warhawk, Heavy Rain, Heavenly Sword : all these games make perfect use of the sixaxis controls but I agree the concept was pretty limited.

What Kinect could have been : a nearly 1:1 depth sensing camera like in this demo http://www.youtube.com/watc...
MS even went as far as buying the company (3DV) which was developping this motion technology.

But their tech was expensive, so MS bought another company called Prime Sens which had a cheaper RGB-D cam in store and merged the two either to create an oligopolistic market, or to impeed...

They announced they were past the 40 million shipped (40.8) in their Q1 report (up untill 31 march)... 1.5 million units worldwide in 3 months is nothing out of ordinary, it's actually the very same figures as in Q1. Last year same period they shipped 1.2 million, so yeah small increase probably due to the slim.

@T9X69
They made millions because of rebuys (probably a good 15-20% of total shippment) but they also underestimated the RROD debacle and the replacement ...

MS didn't spend any time in developping kinect, they licenced Gesturetek motion control software that existed for 15 years (same as the Eyetoy), then they looked for a company selling depth-sensing cameras (or Zcam) that could work with it. They bought a company called 3DV sepcialized in creating motion-detection technology for $35 million, but like always with MS they tend to buy companies just to have a monopoly in a market and kill any possibility for competition to create and produce ...

Betamax/Betacam was a dominant format in the professional and broadcast video industry in the 80's and 90's, so yes it was a great commercial success.

It's not about Sony lovers or kinect haters. it's because many people who didn't drink MS coolaid saw this debacle comming from afar. They saw the lag, the unresponsiveness and the limitations since MS presentation at E3 2009. But when they voiced their concerns they were called haters, bashers or PS3 fanboys and were told to wait for release. Well release is comming and videos are proving kinect is definitely flawed, unless you see the world through MS rose-colored glasses that i...

Normally Kinect should have been equiped with a single-chip custom-silicon solution like in the diagram below. In this configuration part of the data processing (determine depth based on the pattern's deformation as captured by the infrared, and its transcription into points cloud) could have been carried out by the cam itself providing the console with ready to use datas.

I've read somewhere an interview of PrimeSens CEO (before the company was bought by MS), who sai...

I'm begining to think MS knows it's gonna flop thus they're not putting much effort and money in showcasing the product. They probably plan to let it go downhill fast and possibly embark the 360 with it since from recent reports MS quitting the console industry would apparently make its shareholders really happy.

Either that or their goal is to discard the 360 like they did with the original Xbox, and release a new console next year.

Do you remember that report saying that Kinect had problems picking out black people and people wearing black clothes...

The more I see it, the more I understand why MS was so reluctant to let the journos film the screen while people were playing in those closed door events around Europe.

What you see in the "freestyle" part of the Dance central choreographed demo (= not representative of what gamers will get out of it) and the Your shape demo is not an avatar but only a shape formed by the raw datas (points cloud) the RGB-D cam sends to the processor so the lag is minimal while still clearly visible, but when you have to map this "shape" and its movements to a real avatar in a game you get :

1. even more lag because the datas will then nee...

Yes the PSEye can detect it thanks to the accelerometers. See, that's the difference between a well thought out controler and a gimmicky one.

This is an image of how Kinect sees you, a vague point cloud (and just below how the still image is transcribed by a computer to a 3D model). If there's a little distortion in the perception of the human form (like in this case because of a long dress), the software will not be able to translate your movements properly and your avatar will have strange seizures and jerking limbs like we've seen it countless times in the Ricochet videos.

That's also why it is diffi...

No the tech is here but for this you need a very precise and lagless ToF (Time-of-Flight) camera which costs from 8'000 to 12'000 bucks, and not a stripped-down RGB-D cam.

Move is definitely more versatile because it can use head/body tracking and voice control combined with a precise motion controler.
