MS bribed the press giving away new Xbox slim
Nintendo offered limited playtime with blond models attached to the 3DS
Sony will have to think fast to top that. ^^
For someone to open it up to see if they really adressed the RROD and not just redesigned the case and rearranged the same electronic components inside. Yeah I'm wary of MS, especially since it's not the first time they claim the new mobo fixes the RROD problem.
I'd like to see the inside of this thing before passing a judgement on how reliable it is, for all we know they could have just redesigned the case and rearranged the same electonic components to fit in a cramped space.
Why buy Kinect when some Toshiba TV's already use motion control interface
of this video are River Rush's gameplay, apparently you need to jump when necessary.
Depth sensing camera based on IR are expensive piece of hardware period.
Just look at IR cam used for suveillance purpose they range from 100$ to 450$ and they're only simple thermal cam, with no incorporated mic nor a secondary camera.
And MS has to add to that the licencing price for the gesture recognition software and the gesture control interface for NXE made by Gesturetek.
Believe me, if MS prices Natal below 100$ then it will mean ...

I repost this very self explanatory video about Natal
this video is veeeeeery interesting
this kind of "game"
there was also a rafting game in the begining.
And guess what there's a page on Gesturetek website listing "party games" developped by the firm for their motion control software.
So, beside Marble madness and the Burnout Paradise look-a-like (that have already been demoed) expect these kind of games in Natal's catalogue (in a better resolution obviously).

No need to be a genius to understand how the 3D in the 3DS works : it has nothing to do with processing power, it's just plain reversed head tracking based on giroscopes and a two dimensional picture ... basically the same process used in holograph stickers.
And most importantly it has already been done in the past but probably nobody remembers the Atari Cosmos.
because of the conditions of the showings... journalist are apparently under strict NDA (they apparently don't have the right to be too critical) can't have their way as they want with Natal, they only have a five minutes session playing, they can't choose the gender of their avatar nor can they film the screen while people are playing.
Not to say most of their legit questions are eluded, and for any further information MS only provides them with the target rend...
Your right about the camera but what will cost the most is the software's licence. MS will have to pay big royalties to Geturetek, because not only are they using the movement recognition software, but they'll also be using the company's gesture control interface to navigate the NXE.
Nothing in Natal is MS research.
The IR camera is very common and MS had to go all the way and buy an israeli manufacturer just to be able to label it as an MS product, and lure people into believing the camera is the base of the "Natal Technology", when it's actually the movement recognition software that matters.
The movement recognition software is licenced by Gesturetek since ages and can work with any depth-sensing camera, the Eye Toy was...
Is to call this thing san roku maru which means 3,6 and circle (used for zero) which also means "correct".
But there's this big X in the front, left to interpretation because it looks more like a cross than a letter and the cross in japan is the batsu (or peke) sign for "wrong",and which also means "impossibility", "futility", "uselessness".
The message is all messed up for those who are not familiar with...
Bubble up !
As long as the result will look like this
http://www.youtube.com/watc...
give up any hope to use it with hardcore games.
To be even more precise the company responsible for developping Natal (which is a motion sensing software that can be implemented to any depth-sensing camera) is the same repsonsible for the co-developpment of the Eyetoy with Sony : Gesturetek. At that time (8 years ago) Z-camera were pretty expensive that's the reason why Sony decided to go with 2D camera instead.
But is it really 3D ? If they can't render it on screen at the press conference it means that it's holographic rendering like the Atari Cosmos.
you only get the 3D effect by moving the console... if you prefer it's reversed head tracking.
