Actually the 40.2 million figure is shipped consoles (or sold to retailers if you prefer) not sold to customers. The fact that they said 39 million back in January means that they overshipped 360's in the holiday season, retailers' stocks were already loaded and that's why they only shipped 1 million more in the past 3 months.
But the real 40 million mark (sold to customers) could be reached in about 5 or 6 weeks.
MS you're overdoing it, seriously... hype Natal all you want with paid "celebrities" who'll explain how it is a completely new experience in gaming, but hearing this PR presenting Natal saying that the "technology" (which is only a sooftware that MS didn't even invent and which can be implemented in any depth sensing camera) is seriously considered in the medical field in order to monitor vital signs in chronic diseases is just pure and utter bullshit and completely mislea...
In the Spanish presentation of the game commentator said that MS doesn't authorize to film a person playing and the screen at the same time... for obvious reasons.
I remember this Alan Wake rip off vividly :

oh wait...
he's one of those MS employees whose job consist to troll Wii and PS3 games on popular forums and overhype MS games.
What you see is not MS technology, but the gesture recognition software created by Gesturetek, and this software can be implemented to any depth sensing camera as very well explained on this page :

but there is noticeable lag no matter how you try to spin it, and if there is lag at this stage (where the camera is basically only tracking your body) then just imagine what it will be like when the software has to map your movements to an avatar (well, we've actually seen what it's like : Ricochet).
No news here. The commentator says that they wouldn't let the journalist record the screen while people were playing, obviously there's still noticeble lag MS is trying to conceal (well, they managed to show us some lag and some hiccups around 1:10 anyway). Oh and MS graciously gave them the promotion video so people would have an idea what to expect from Natal (without specifying in the comments that it was only a target render vid).
They also said they only got to play Ricochet...
is that Natal misleading advertising is more or less what the PSEye can do : scan objects and put them into a game

Yet we have seen countless Ricochet demos, and the last one to date (about one month ago), was exactly the same as last year's E3 presentation, with lag and the avatar doing the "bottom of an avatar shoes" stunt.
We've seen the splash paint demo which is neither interesting as a gaming mechanic nor as an "artistic" means of expression.
We also had recent reports of the failed Molyneux demo where the person demoing wasn't recognized by the camera b...
it has been really helpful for me yesterday when my computer got infected with a backdoor trojan and I had to surf the web to find a way to get rid of it.
Stereoscopic 3D that gives you the impression the action comes out of the screen gives a sens of immersivity. In the DS case it's not 3D as we intend it, just reverse head tracking (where the giroscopes detect the position of the device and show you the appropriate view angle) it's only a nice aesthetic feature since you can't have any interactivity with it other than find hidden things in the "distance" by moving foreground objects.
For those who have played Killzone 2...
If I remember correctly Remedy stated that they were afraid the end might be spoiled and after the Heavy Rain debacle they may have decided to spread fake spoilers.
All Uncharted pics are pictures taken from the TV screen.

The camera maybe (if you discount the fact that they had to acquire the company Prime Sense to build it) but the software implementation for movement recognition and the devkits are all from Gesturetek

look at this video :

Both can do head tracking : But as I see it Sony has an advantage Natal tracks your body or the upper part of it but I've never seen a demo where the head was tracked "separately", just the hands. Here is the camera MS is using (you can tell because near the end of the video it's used to browse through Xbox360 games in a sort of NXE interface) and because Gesturetek is the patent holder of this kind of technology :
They demoed head tracking back in 2004 with the EyeToy :

"Sure sony will say that the move has been in developement for years.. You think they are really going to come out and say "after the Wiimote sucess we decided to copy it!""
Don't be of bad faith you're just making a fool of yourself.
We have videos from a 2004 conference given at Stanford U, where Sony's developper presents their motion technology based on a colored ball recognition, demoing it with a PS2 and explains the problems they've been fa...
