"Sony on the other hand really does build systems that can be pushed harder and harder as time goes on"
You can't be f***ing serious!?! The PS2 was underpowered and outdated, the day it hit the shelves. There has never, and WILL never be a game made for the PS2, that could hold up to the likes of Crimson Skies, Thief:DS, Riddick, Halo 2, Morrowind, Jade Empire etc. The only thing devs have improved on with the PS2 in 6 years, is a few lighting and texture TRICKS, to t...
It's only fair, since Beth made the PC/360 gamers wait as well. But I'm still not shelling out $10 , for content the PS3 will get for free....f*** that.
The update had nothing to do with the game. MS had just completed the fall update, around the time Gears was being published; it likely had to do with that.
1.) 6 years from now, MS will be ready to launch it's next console....they don't milk old tech until it starts hurting the quality of games, like Sony.
2.) G.O.W. actually only take up about 7.8 GB. How exactly is that a BAD THING?? Intelligent gamers have been saying all along, that Blu-Ray was unnecessary, and Gears proves that....PERIOD.
...I chose the XBOX for it's superior hardware, DVD player, Live, and exclusive games that I wanted. The PS2 had less than 10 exclusives in it's 6+ years, that I was interested in and/or enjoyed; MOST of those were early titles, like Ico, Red Faction, Smuggler's Run, Drakkan: The Ancient's Gate, and Primal. I hate the DMC, FF, and MGS games, have no interest in platformers like Spyro, Ratchet, Sly, or Jak, and God of War was boring and cliche. I MUCH prefer the types of exclusives MS has...
...and you're about to get a rude awakening. :|
I really liked my Logitech wireless headset for the XBOX, and was planning on getting this. But, about 3 weeks ago, I found a wireless headset, by Turtle Beach electronics, that also has a built-in Live headset. It was $100, but well worth it. Now I can play with the sound pumping directly into my ears, while my wife studies, rather than have to play with the volume way down; it's freaking awesome. The headset itself is wireless, but the Live part still tethers to the controller.

...this is an OBVIOUS response to those (primarily Sony fanboys) who say that Gears is as good as it will EVER get on the 360. Hell, if you listen to Sony, the PS3 will someday be capable of 4D gaming, and in-game graphics equal to the CGI of the Spider-Man movies. :o
I bought my first one at launch......waited in line for 13 hours at Wal-Mart for that POS. I sold it after I got an XBOX in 2002. I then bought my 2nd one about 2 years ago....$100 refurb from EB....so my wife could have a cheap DVD player, and could play a Tetris and Primal in the bedroom. I haven't touched a PS2 for gaming in 3-4 years though.
...I think we'll see a complete restructuring of the 2 SKUs. The core will eventually get the standard 20GB HDD, and the premium will get a 60 or 80GB...with the $300/$400 prices remaining the same. The optional HDDs, will be priced between $100-$200, depending on size. They may even have a new Multimedia SKU, bundled with a larger HDD, and the HD-DVD player, for $600.
Of course that's all just one man's opinion. ;)
...do we have to see the same stories submitted?
Newsflash....Itagaki nailed for sexual harassment!
....production has been full-blown since the Spring. The key thing during the Holiday season, is bargaining for shelf/floor space in retail stores; the shoppers can't buy what they can't see. Sony and MS have always been very good at this, so it would have been a very competitive 2006 shopping season, if Sony didn't have the diode shortages. Of course, Nintendo stands to benefit a great deal from that as well. ;)
Sony has always touted their BC library of games, since the PS2 (which is simply done by including the last-gen chipset...not a great achievement, and not an option for MS with the 360...but that's another story). Since the PS3 will be BC with the PS1/PS2, it would be foolish to think that anyone who bought a PS2 in the past year....or at least past 6 months...would also buy a PS3.
Why would you ANNOUNCE that your overpriced console, will REQUIRE a patch, ON DAY 1? That's the about the dumbest thing I think they've done yet. ??? "We just want everyone to know, that we realize we are shipping a buggy piece of crap....but we're on top of it". :|
...the Holidays account for about about 50% of sales for most retail outlets.....even more for consumer electronics. Also, the sales average sales #s for the holiday shopping season (Oct, Nov, Dec) are about 300% higher than the other 3 yearly quarters.
...this guy thinks Motorstorm will be the Savior of the PS3. :o
...is that for every PS2 they've sold over the past year, they've lost a potential PS3 sale. The fact that the PS2 has outsold the 360 since launch, is actually a GOOD thing for MS.
MS was largely forgiven for the shortages, because they were first to market, BY A WHOLE YEAR, with their next-gen console. That Sony had that extra year, and still fails to deliver....plus the "price of potential"....really takes the sting out of the 360's early shortcomings. I'd say at least 60% of those who were waiting this past year for the PS3, will now get AT LEAST a 360...maybe the Wii60 combo, instead.
...that the larger HDDs were in fact coming. It's really a no-brainer...particularly with the new HD DLC coming.
My wife and I clocked over 120 hours, with just one character. We probably spent another 30-40 between the 5 other characters we created.
