....and not from gameplay. It's the crappy quality of the animations, and the (typical) ugly art/design of the background that shows just how pathetic Treyarch is. This IS NOT something that should have been shown to the public, particularly this late in development, and as little of this game that they've shown. If you're going to show stuff to promote a highly-anticipated title like this, or show off your work, this is NOT what you show. Just pathetic....laughable.
It looks like something from the PS2, a few years ago... definitely not next-gen. Treyarch sucks. :o
$30.00??!! Damn...I was expecting more like $15. :(
...the difference is, this won't be available for the PS3 until MAYBE late this year. ;)
Because it's common sense, that's how. Anybody who's in the game dev business, and doesn't know about normal or bump mapping, has been in a cave for the past 5 years...period. Pretty much every next-gen game from the past couple years has used such a method. Hell, Id's John Carmack even came up with a quicker shortcut, called MegaTexture mapping, for rendering large detailed environments.
And, BTW...it's CYNICAL. :o
- I currently own 12 '360' games, and have owned and traded more than 30 since launch.
- Bought the wireless racing wheel a couple months ago
- Bought the HD-DVD add-on back before X-mas (wanted King Kong anyway, so it was a good deal)
- Bought the Vision cam for use with RSV, and for video chat.
I'll be buying no less than 15 more games by year's end.
Talking about normal mapping and it's advantages, at a Dev conference, is
like giving a lecture at a NASCAR convention, on the advantages of duct tape. In other words, if you don't already know about something that's been done FOR YEARS, you aren't an important player in the game.
It would have been more interesting and informative, if they'd shown some new tech, that ONLY the PS3 could pull off......but then again, no such thing exists. ;)
Sony wanted people to believe that the PS3 was capable of rendering every little detail, bump, hole, hair, etc., in real-time, and that such techniques wouldn't be necessary. I love how they try to make this out to be some big technological breakthrough, when the ORIGINAL XBOX did normal mapping in SEVERAL games. 'Chronicles of Riddick' was one of the first console games to ever use normal mapping, and that was 3 YEARS ago.
LOL...."just to name one". More like "just to name THE ONLY one". :o
1.) THP8 : NO ONLINE
2.) Virtua Tennis 3 : NO ONLINE
3.) Oblivion (No downloads at or near launch)
4.) R6V : delayed several months, because of lacking online tools from Sony
5.) GRAW 2 : Ditto (because it's also a Ubisoft game)
Hell, even Motorstorm, Sony's pride and joy, and only other decent looking exclusive, had ZERO ONLINE when it launched....
That has NOTHING to do with online integration. :o
This is NOTHING like 'LIVE'. XBOX 'LIVE' is a dedicated online GAMING SERVICE, with newly added peripherals for multi-media content downloads.
This may look "cool", but it still shows NOTHING about Sony's online gaming focus. If this is all Sony has to offer, we'll continue to see Multiplatform games have ZERO online for PS3 versions, because Sony doesn't know how to provide devs with the necessary tools.
There haven't been any lines for the PS3 since the first week of launch.
Why would there be a line at any point in the future?
but it gets better as you play. I rented it this weekend, and am determined to get my money's worth out of it. :o
The problem is that, early on there's not much action, and the levels are so ridiculously huge. You have to run EVERYWHERE, and she's not very fast. The first big boss battle on the airplane is the best part of the game so far, and that's a few hours in. Basically, the level design is way too big for this kind of game, since she has such limited abilities. If she cou...
...just stated the obvious. You can't take a PS1 game, and make it look miraculously better by upscaling to 1080p...it anything, it will look worse, in some ways. Hell, a lot of XBOX games look like crap on my Sony Wega 55"...and they're upscaled, and only a generation (or less) behind the 360, in graphical quality.

So, we'll get to see the PS1/PS2 jaggies, in ultimate clarity.....yay!! :D
This is a prime example of why LIVE is so superior. Sony really should just bite the bullet, and copy MS as closely as possible, without getting busted for infringement. :o
...the "first look" came about 2 weeks ago, and this lame 1-page article offers nothing new.
It's the same pic they're using in the theater promo posters.......I want one. :(
...but then Treyarch has proven they really can't deliver in that area either. Spider-man 1 was all about the combat, and so the webswinging suffered. They tried to make up for that in S-M 2, but the combat and side missions had to suffer, because they focused all of their attention on webswinging. USM was crappy in general, with generic story, crappy webswinging, and ugly-ass cell-shading BS. We'll soon see what had to suffer, for them to make up for past failures, because they can't m...
