"MGS4 is special in so many ways that I suspect it will reside among the videogame industry's greatest achievements long after we're dust."
That is a hardcore endorsement if ever I did see one. O_O
Looks like the reviewer was COMPLETELY Blown away by the game.
Could explain why that Haynes guy at IGN trashed Haze after playing MGS4.
I dunno how old your example is... hmmm.. maybe like 10 years old? I don't know about you, but DOS is hardly a conversation piece these days. Get with today already. Macs run all OSes.
@1.2 Who cares if it costs more? By your argument I should build my own LCD TV instead of spending money on Sony LCD TV... I can tell you from industry experience that assembling a LCD TV is 20 times easier than building a computer. There's less parts to deal with and the price difference between building it and buying it is even more ridiculous than buying a mac vs. building a PC. But guess what? You bought an HDTV and so did I.
But see that's the problem Specialguest... they've been milking the franchise for 2 console generations now with no innovation to speak of.
I thought they were great too in the 90s... but that was close to 20 years ago... lol
Man that's just plain wrong and f**ked up. Please keep racial comments outta this.
@4.3 I'm in your so-called "sony" gang but I ain't gonna put up with s**t like that. That's just uncalled for whether ur on the 360 or the PS3 camp.
This is how Microsoft works in a nutshell: They befriend you and build a relationship with you in a peaceful platonic manner. Once they score your technology and expertise, you're just another stepping stone in their way. That's what history shows and yet every year there's a sucker who falls for the ploy again and again.
I'm guessing your the person that disagreed with my Koei rant... just to let u know, I'm asian and I still think Koei is a POS publisher. I like FF and I think Square deserves its reputation as a great developer... but not KOEI.
KOEI is the worst game developer next to EA's Sports division. Re-use same game mechanic/story, repaste with new character textures and then sell. Seriously, do they even have a programming team? Its like they have this pre-built engine that they hired some third party company to make in 1999 and they just keep reusing it as long as it runs on a console platform. "Doesn't work for PS3? Oh well lets call it exclusive for 360 then since it, thank god, works with common 360 C code." ...
As much as I detest agreeing with you, I think you're on the money with this one, though not for the exact same reasons.
Personally I find it interesting that Square is putting that much focus on the 360. Not to flame any 360 fans here on the board, but Square's biggest market is still far and away Japan/Asia where the PS3 and Wii roost. With the well documented sales numbers of the 360 in Japan what gives? Where's the money doing this?
I can understand Mistwalker taking the plunge given that they are new to the business (I kno its all run by former square veterans, Shigeru and Uematsu)
The ...
On a serious note, even though the characters are less refined than KZ2, the environmental details, machinery, and other fine details really do give KZ2 a run for the money.
The details are amazing.... Looking at the bland truck pic, the super high detail of dust on the windshield and the wiper blade tracks... that's just crazy. We're never even going to notice that in-game b/c it'll be at 720p O_O.... It's like so beautiful but so extraneous lol...
@Kain 81: Not to be rude, but I'll believe it when I see it. My guess is it'll be scaled to 1080p and not true sampled 1080p. Which isn't bad mind you... since all 360 games do that anyway and its fun...
Personally, I feel really bad for Free Radical on this one. The game was hyped up with major high expectations (not in the realm of MGS4 or Halo3, but certainly up there), and thus you see all these mom and pop publications reviewing this game anticipating something big. I still don't understand why the dropped the ball on this game. According to posted articles a couple days back I read, they had refused Sony Dev support in order to "learn" how to program for the PS3. It looks li...
Unfortunately, Shazam that part is true. According to Insomniac, they haven't implemented RFOM2 graphical assets yet into their demo... so you literally are looking at RFOM1 polygon/textures. But obviously that will change.
Rob Wright is undoubtedly a dyed-in-the-wool 360/PC fan.
Look at his one-off on Resistance, "While Resistance featured the same kind of generic shooter mechanics and human vs. aliens"
The guy clearly never played the game long enough to realize that one of the biggest things about RFOM was the incredible weapons array available. The game clearly had major creativity in this regard.
Not to mention his comparison of Killzone2, where he equates ...
Every example you've given so far has shown how badly implemented 40+ vs 40+ games have been. Frontlines blew. Huxley will blow (I don't even believe the designers even had real experience with FPS genre). The big win for this gen isn't necessarily how many people are able to play together at the same time, rather it is how well a 60+ vs. 60+ match can be implemented without breaking down into chaos, that and managing lag. My bet is on Insomniac's implementation.
Will someone who gave me a disagree with my last post give me a reason? Are you just being obstinate or simply retarded? There is an HK PSN store btw...go check it out yourself.
Ahem major correction... The PS3 is available in Hong Kong which since 1997 has been part of China.
I downloaded and played the Japanese demo version of this game. It is really good, but has the esoteric claustrophobic camera angles indicative of most Japanese titles (it was a game design choice I believe to enhance fear) However, quality was definitely top notch and the voice acting (in English believe it or not) is surprisingly decent.
Thankfully, that's why you're not the game reviewer. You wouldn't even see a bus even if it hit you in the face. Even Bladestar knows when to give respect when its due. Go to your corner and wait for GeoW2
