the answer is easy. Apple's never been in the phone market before and the iPhone is their very first product.
That's not quality... that's product features in which case 90% of Mp3 players out there have more product features than an iPod. But product features don't necessarily translate to sales. Witness the Ipod's ascendancy in the Mp3 market and the iPhone in the Phone market.

There are a ton of kids on the Wii and a ton of kids on the 360. Considering both consoles are the lowest cost gaming solutions for parents to buy, you will be seeing more and more kids for these two.
